Sacramento, CA - Comcast - Page 5

FYI - Surfing around last night, I found the NFL Network showed up on Channel 180. Seemed like an odd place to put it, since I would have guessed it would be in the low 400's along with all the other digital-sports programming (i.e. ESPNNews, etc). I assumed I was going to have to subscribe to the sports programming tier, like the NBA Channel and the regional Fox Sports networks, in order to receive the NFL Network, so we'll see how long it stays "free" and on Channel 180.

To think that I am paying $110/month and they want to charge me $10 more to get INHD channels...I am starting to lose patience.

I must admit that they certainly did a good job of taking me away from D-TV. All because I bought a DLP set...

Now I am trying to see if Tracy CA can get waivers from the networks so that I can get the West Coast feeds for the majors in HD...If it even works that way.
I am so confused right now.

I am not sure what majors were you refering to but asking your local station for a waiver is usually fatal. You'd be better "move" to a right location and keep your current address your mailing address.

I hope after three months Comcast DVR issue can be clearer, or else I will consider DirecTV also since they have been calling me every week. The only things stopped me from considering DirecTV are I am still under contract with Dishnetwork and the HD DirecTivo is still expensive.

I was just going to say that I heard from someone on www.kingsfans.com that Sacramento area Comcast got NFL network on channel 417.

It's a banner night!! of the 6 HD channels we have - there are 5 HD programs, and 4 of them are networks...

NBC has Father of the Pride
PBS - Secrets of the Dead
FOX - Next Great Champ
ABC - According to Jim
DiscHD - Some travel deal
ESPN-HD - Poker (non-HD)

Amazing!!
"The Next Great Champ" was not in HD -- it was an upconvert from 480. A good upconvert, but an upconvert none-the-less. The only non-NFL HD from FOX so far was the movie "Duece Bigalow" on Sunday night.

Do you know if FOX had posted it as "FOX HD" or "FOX DIGITAL WS" in the beginning of the show? If FOX DIGITAL WS like always in the past, then yeah, they are not showing it in true 720p. If anything, I think FOX won't get stuff in 720p until the FALL season starts, with the come back of OC. Football started for them, and the shows will come a little later. This is how it seems like to me. Other then of course FOX movies, I think they would show those in 720p, like how most ABC movies are. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Just an update on my Comcast situation. Called last night to cancel everything, the lady offered me a special deal if I stayed. Standard cable for $19.99 for one year, plus $5 for the HD box, she said with that I would get back InHD, InHD2, ESPNHD and DiscoveryHD. I am skeptical since InHD and InHD2 appeared needing digital classic now. But she insisted the deal she gave me will include all four so we will see.

Will not get it until next weekend though, a tech needs to take a trip to remove the filter outside. At least they are trying.

I won't suggest everyone try this though, my account has logged so many communications about the lack of DVR and HD and the price increase that was apparent to her I was serious about leaving, and really it may sound a very good deal to many, but to me it is still a price increase since I have Dishnetwork DVR service, no need for anything other than the HD channels from Comcast.

Now if and when Comcast dual-tuner DVRs are out, I will seriously consider switching all my TV services to Cocmast with this deal in place.

That's a good deal. So before, you were paying for the basic cable of $12.01 w/ $5 HD box? You were able to get all the HD channels with the filter installed the whole time. Thats weird, I would think that they needed to remove it in order to get those HD channels. I guess not. After my promotion with Comcast, I'm planning ot switch Digital Classic, which is going to be more then what I'm paying now, with Plus and HBO. Oh wellz. At the end, going cable will cost a little more, but I have more then 1 TV, 3 HDTV to be exact. So going cable is reasonable. I would love to with DirecTV, but now with Comcast having KINGS in HD, I want to say a little longer =) I know KXTV will have it OTA as well, which I could get free, but hey, the more HD, the better =) So at the end, even though I really don't like analog, I will have to live with it for a while. I wish DirecTV will give me more reason to return to them. Like better HD PQ and Kings in HD =) I also like Comcast cable, that is why I sort of what to stay with Comcast due to that. I rather not go with DSL, looks like a hassle. Yeah, I cannot wait until DVR is out for Comcast. I know they will charge an arm and a leg for it, but hey, I'm only planning to get one so I hope it won't break my budget. So at the end, if I had to use dial-up connection for the net, I would rather get DirecTV as my provider =) But then again, I would pay a little more to get DSL =) decisions, decisions, decisions.

Absolutely nothing at the start of "Champ" or on "North Shore" the other night. No HD logo, or even the old "FOX Widescreen" thing. Even on "Deuce Bigalow," which *was* in HD, it wasn't identified in any way.

I have to think that you are correct in that FOX is still ramping up for HD on the regular series programs. We all thought they would appear immediately after Sept. 12th, but it now seems more likely that they're going to slowly roll them out over the next who knows how many weeks.

That sucks that you cannot get CBS-HD. Yeah, lets hope Comcast will get it during our lifetime =) for those folks that cannot get it OTA. I saw the other day that Walmart was selling a OTA HD tuner for $181 bux =) I was like surprise that Walmart would carry something like that their. I guess HD is bigger then I thought =) Man, to see FOOTBALL in 1080i, its worth that that much money =) hehe. I'm using my old DirecTV HD OTA turner =)

Back to what you were saying =) Yeah, the 49ers game was ok in PQ, but hey its a lot better then EDTV =) I thought that it was up to par with ABC/ESPN games. Some parts looks better then other, but of course I rather watch anything in 1080i though =) Then on MNF, I thought the PQ was typical ABC like. But then I had switched over to ESPNHD, for some reason, the picture quality was a lot nicer then the OTA when they were showing the highlights. I was shocked. ESPN! stop playing with our minds!!! hehe. kidding. ESPN HD SC would be so much better when they show almost every highlight if not all in HD. This is when I would make sure I will catch SC every night. Wellz, I do already, but it would be a better experience =). Lets hope no dropouts next week though. Crossing fingers.

Sorry to change the subject, and not sure if this has been mentioned. For anyone in Placer County areas StarStream Cable supposedly now offers HDTV channels! I wish I could get my dad into the HD thing...

Channel Lineup from the website:
200 HDTV - ESPN HDTV
201 HDTV - Discovery HDTV
250 HDTV - HBO Premium
251 HDTV - Showtime Premium
275 HDTV - NBC - KCRA Sacramento HDTV
276 HDTV - FOX - KTXL Sacramento HDTV
277 HDTV - WB - KQCA Sacramento HDTV
278 HDTV - UPN - KMAX Sacramento HDTV

Hammer

Interesting that they have WB and UPN but not PBS (Comcast is the opposite).

And of course, they don't have CBS either..... no surprising!

Hmmm, how long has NFL network been sharing inhd2 ? It was not in the EPG, but I switched a little early for the A's game and it looked like NFL. Switched to 180, yep, same thing.

Troy
A's game is on InHD2 here but it's upconverted SD right now. 4:3 pillarboxed.

Comcast might be putting the HD version of NFL Network's Game of the Week on InHD2, but that show starts at 9pm according to my guide. It will still conflict with the A's game however, unless it's an extraordinarily short baseball game.
By the way, we can't get FOX on Comcast here for basically the same reason you don't get CBS on Comcast in Sacramento. And I can't receive the S.F. Fox station OTA due to geography/topography, but I can get your Sacto FOX station's digital signal pretty well, so that's my option for 49ers in HD. Ironic, eh?

I think this is the first time, if not, then just recently. Seem like Comcast has added the NFL Channel recently to their lineup. This would include the HD feed as well. Which like FSN HD games, are overlapping INHD2 regular programming. I will update our HD lineup list as well. Of course its always good news with Comcast add more HD, but I think it is about time for Sacramento Comcast to get a separate channel for misc HD feeds, including FSN HD, NFL HD, and or KINGS HD. Only make sense.

Also, I noticed that KCRA-DT 903 wasn't working for me. It was displaying a "This channel will be available shortly." Did anybody else get this message? I noticed that it happen shortly after I had switched over to NFL channel HD. 920 (INHD2). The KCRA-DT OTA is working though.

I've been getting the same thing since 7:58pm-ish (hadn't tried 903 before then).

Yeah, very ironic. Strange how you can't pick up FOX SF OTA, but you could pick up FOX SAC OTA. I guess our FOX signal is that strong then =) Also, FOX SAC OTA is down as I post this reply. BUT! Comcast FOX is up though, read that FOX feed Comcast a direct feed. I wonder if this is some sort of lame Comcast promotion to get FOX HD on Comcast..ehhe. messing, I got love for my Comcast =).

The good news for you then is that the Sacto FOX station is in the middle of an upgrade to increase their power from 290,000 to 1,000,000 watts -- so if you received the signal before the increase, you should be in even better shape after.

I remember trying KCRA-DT (903) around 5pm and it was working. But I think this happened as early as 6pm, because that is when the NFL HD feed came into INHD2.

Has anyone noticed that INHD 1&2 are back in the lineup for non-digital cable subscribers?

Is it? Could anybody else confirm this as well. I'm going to switch my package to standard cable if this is the case. I could care less about the digital service.
I will comfirm it. Its 3am right now and its working. Hope it stays. My HD lineup seems kind of empty without it.
Well Comcast just gave me Digital Silver for $29.99 for three months if I stayed with them. When the tech was here yesterday morning he could not get InHD, InHD2 and StarzHD, after calling his office, he was told Moto and Comcast were working on a major fix on HD box anuthrization. Last night I got the HD channels back. May be they did make some changes but their official word is InHD, InHD2, ESPNHD and DiscHD require standard cable and digital classic or up.
I saw that the NFL Network's "Game of the Week" (1 hour recap of the Steelers/Raiders game) was on InHD2 last night from 9-10pm, although it didn't show up in the programming guide.
Very interesting indeed - my InHD channels are back now too.... hope they stay on... I kind of missed them...
Ok I have watched football on FOX the last two Sundays... supposedly in high def, but it doesn't look high def. At least not when you compare it to ESPN's Sundy night football broadcasts.

Sure it is 16:9, but it looks no where near as detailed as other games... plus the audio of the play by play is about 10db down from the commercials!!!

Anyone else notice this?
I watched just for a few minutes, just to see what FOX was up to... it was definitely no good. There were weird lines running through the picture, and to me, it looked like it was on the deep end of 480p.

I was totally unimpressed, but hey... I'm not going to complain... yet.
Hey Hazama... you're in Placerville! Are you just hooked to the cable or are you getting anything OTA?
Comcast is now advertising VOD on TV, anyone know when VOD will be turned on? How about when DVRs will be available?
I'm not sure if this is a Comcast issue or a KCRA issue, but since I watch on Comcast I'll post it here -

I've noticed a big issue when the signal is changed from the National HD feed to the local feed, and back again - I was watching Law & Order last night, and every time they tried to show an ad for the 11pm news, the audio was lost for the first few seconds, and the video would break up. Then when they went back to L&O, same thing. Is KCRA mucking things up?
