My Motorola DCT5100 has both optical and coax as does the the DCT6208. The photo I have of the new DCT6412 is too small to confirm both outputs but I would assume it continues the practice.

Thanks Garrett!

I think mine has both but I am using COAX.

I will give them one of my older less expensive receiver's that was failing anyway. They don't have to take all of them. They also require you to add on the digital package on top of the regular package. So factor that one in as well.

Your solution was just fine. For all the people who took the Comcast dish buyback deal, none so far as I know of had to actually turn in a DBS receiver yet. It is apparent Comcast just wants to get the DBS subs hooked back on their digital service for a good long period of time and if you don't have a dead receiver laying around, tell them your receivers are leased and must be returned, they most likely will go along with your story.

If the consensus is $42+$5 minimum to get the Comcast HD Sportsnet, after $25 off the actual cost will be $22, that will fit many DirecTV subs' bills to have both services.

I have two CSR's tell me that INHD1 and INHD2 are PPV channels; where you order each event separately. I thought that these were 24/7 stations, not PPV. But they told me that these were INDEMAND PPV stations. Is this true? Thanks.

P.S. from prior post, where does the $25 off actual costs come from?

Thanks.
INHD and INHD2 are available 24/7 and are not PPV channels. In fact, they can be received in the clear with a QUAM tuner.

It depends, those connections are options and a specific box may not have both. Some have posted here that their DCT5100 has both connections, but mine has only the coax connector.

I asked why the $15 for the digital package was added in and was told that I had to have that in order to be eligible for the dish buy back. Have others been told differently?

So your telling me that if i have a digital package then i will be charged $10 for an hd box? But if i didnt have a digital pagkage the box is still only 5?

In order to qualify for the $400 dish winback deal, I was forced to take the basic cable package plus the digital package. That is $42 + $15. This should include the receiver and remote. On top of that, I requested the HDTV package for an extra $5. That means I get one HD receiver instead of the digital receiver.
So they way I understand it, I get only one receiver. By asking for the HDTV add on, they change the receiver to an HD capable unit. You can request additional receivers, but I didn't get that information.

Others have stated that they were able to get the basic package plus HDTV and avoid the digital package charge. That was not available to me.

I have long since taken a different promotion from Comcast but now to think back yes I had to have $42 + $9.95 digital classic in order to qualify for the dish buyback promotion. HDTV was an extra $5.

One would probably need a minimum digital tier to ensure all basic HD channels are available to you.

When I originally used the buyback program, I was only required to have Expanded Basic, no digital package at all. That was about a year or so ago, so they could have changed the rules since then.

I'll ask the installer on Friday if that option has changed.

Another question, is anyone with the satellite and cable using diplexers to share a coax? I have 2 coax lines for my HR10-250 and want to diplex one of the lines for the cable. Do the COMCAST installers provide that or will I have to get one locally?

Anybody know if Saturday's Houston-Sacramento game on NBA-TV will be in HD? Even if in HD, will this game be blacked out? (Was the Dallas-Sacramento game blacked out on DirecTV which was telecasting the Dallas feed?). Thanks.

This game will be shown on EPSN, but not in HD. Comcast SportsNet West will be showing this as well, but not in HD. So your out of luck. I don't think NBA-TV HD will air any KINGS game in HD, if anythang it would be only 1, and at the very end of the season I think, the last time I checked.

Has anyone seen the comcast digital cable comercial promotion? It says that if you sign up for digital cable that you would get HBO free for one year. I was wondering if that was only for new customers or if i could get it by upgrading to a digital package?

Yeah, I've seen it. But I think its only for NEW customers. Best way to find out is to just call them. Find out the details. HBO isn't all that though...I like STARZ HD. Just movies...all the time..and some good recent movies as well. Most of movies or shows on HBO, I don't even watch, but hey I'm getting a good deal for my cable, so I'm not complaining to much bout it. $25 bux for digital plus w/ HBO for one whole year. Plus $25 bux for cable internet.

Anybody seen anything like this: I was watching Lord of the Rings last night on Channel 4 (KQCA) - everytime I flipped there, after about 10-15 seconds, the picture went black and white. I went to split screen and didn't see this on the direct cable feed to my TV, but only thru my cable box. I've seen similar behavior on channel 3 before, where the picture is horrible thru the box.

Should I call Comcast out? Is there anything I can tweak on my end?

Could someone with a QAM tuner tell me what channel ESPN and the new Comcast sportsnetwork channel is in HD?

Here's what my QAM TV set and my Fusion QAM HDTV card is picking up:

78.1 - DISCOVER
81.1 - NBC
81.2 - ABC
83.1 - PBS
83.2 - FOX
98.1 - INHD-1
98.2 - INHD-2

I seem to be missing ESPN and Comcast Sports -are these channels unencrypted QAM still?

thanks

No QAM tuner here but...
The comcast sportsnetwork does not have it's own channel. When announced, comcast said it would be using the INHD-2 channel.
Did you mean to ask what channel the HD Special Events is on ?

I don't know if you guys know, but I heard from KXTV channel 10 during the 6pm news broadcast that DirecTV and DISH now have CSN West, so I guess we Comcast fans cannot say much now, other then we get to see the games in HD starting DEC 19th. hehee =P Wellz congratz to DirecTV and DISH, most of the KINGS game this year is on CSN West, so really no point on getting the NBA ticket for any providers now. Really don't know if there will be a charge or not though, they didn't really go into details about the charges. Oh by the way, they reach this agreement today.

Wellz, tomorrow is the day. Is anybody gonna watch the KINGS vs. BUCS game in HD? I guess this could also be mention in the OTA thread as well. We will see if KXTV will do the game in HD, its going to be a home game. As they stated a few months ago, that they will broadcast ALL of their KINGS game in HD. The first one this season would be at Sunday, Nov 21st @ 6pm. The promo on CSN last night didn't mention anything about the game on Sunday to be in HD. I have a bad feeling about this Don't tell me we will have to wait until DEC 19th to really see anything in HD due to the HD truck not being ready on time. I wonder how they are gonna present the HD, I guess they will use the same graphics as their regular broadcast in analog. I wonder if its gonna be in 1080i or ABC standard of 720p. I guess we just have to wait and see. Will post my impression after the game on Sunday, hopefully =).

Someone reported CSR information that the DVR launches in Sacramento on Saturday the 20th (today). Probably bogus, but odd that a CSR would mention a specific day, and so recently (three or four days ago). Anyone up there going to call or stop by your local Comcast office (assuming open on Saturday)?
I'm going to try, but I'm not very optimistic...
Yea, 'just called, CSR said end of Nov. - First 2 weeks of December. and I was put on the 'list' apparantly they are going to contact me when it's available, bahaha. I'll just give 'em another call in 2 weeks.
I just called and got the same "sometime after the first of the year" line. I told the CSR I knew of someone who'd gotten a tracking number, and she put me hold. After a few minutes, she told me the form had been filled out and I got a tracking number in the form of xxxx.xxx

She also told me "Don't get too excited and think something will happen in the next couple of weeks, because it may be longer than that."

Wellz, guess not, since its on right now. I guess they are waiting for the same truck as CSN west, so DEC 19th. Boring game tonight anyways, I probably won't of continue watching it after the first quarter, HD or not. hehe.

Could someone please tell me if ESPN-HD is still unencrypted QAM256? and if so, what frequency channel is it? ie, 98.1 98.2 for INHD

I was the one that was told "Nov. 20th"...... even got a "form #"

I called today to see whats up and was told everal things for the Sacramento area:

1. Release date has been pushed back to after Jan. 1, 2005
2. There is a reservation list, and its already full
3. The # I was given was just the form number that was noted on my account to show that I am interested in a DVR.

now, on point #2. I asked how/when the "reservation list" was opened up and how one gets on the list. I was again told that its already closed. The CSR didnt asnwer my question. I told her that and my only relpy was silence. I had to ask... "is anyone there?". I then suggested that since she could she the history of my calls regarding this subject dating back to early this summer, perhaps there would be some way of getting me on this super-secret "reservation list" since I have been expressing interst in the HD DVR since before, at least I can assume it was before, the list was even started. Again, silence, then, "... the list is already closed Sir. " Again.

If there was a way to reach through the phone and strangle someone, I would have done it.

I'll torture myself and keep calling back daily.
