Presumably just pending regulatory approval...unless Sinclair now wants to play ball for the short term???

This is excellent news. Anybody know how long these things typically take? And then how long before Comcast turns on channel 913?

I don't watch much TV but when I do it's usually broadcast channels. I have digital cable with HDTV but was thinking of just getting an OTA tuner...this CBS deal makes me think it's better to just stick with the Comcast box....
Thanks for posting it over here, too. I keep forgetting there are separate threads for Sacramento...we have just one for my current home TV market, Cleveland, OH...

How long will it take? Good question. If there are no problems with the transaction, it could take 6 months to a year. And yes, I'd expect Comcast to get it on at some point after CBS takes over. But none of this happens *tomorrow*...be patient!

I bet Viacom will insist Comcast to add both 913 and 931 after take over

At 6-9 monthes out, I would hope Comcast will have already added 912 based on increased UPN HD content.

I sure wish someone would buy Fox45 in Baltimore from Sinclair.

Only if they have sufficient bandwidth. They would rather add CBS before anything else. I am sure they are aware of the importance of CBS NFL HD games.

I hope with this new deal though Sinclair will ease their demand on the fee, or Comcast will agree to pay knowing that in a few month they will have a new agreement with Viacom and Viacom surely will not demend a fee.

And best yet, both Dishnetwork and DirecTV customers in this market will be able to get the distant CBS HD feeds from satellite, providing a healthy competition.

It's about time for this fastest growing market.

Good news!...Yeah I was watching news on channel 13 and notice that they were talking about this too. First thing I though of, oh damn, Sinclair no more..hehe. CBS will be on Comcast, not any time soon, but someday. hehe. I think Comcast has the bandwidth now to add UPN and WB if they wish, don't know why this haven't happen yet. Wellz, when it does, it will be all good. =)

I havn't ever seen anyone post this but I was googling for Kings in HD info and I found the Comcastsports West website, http://west.comcastsportsnet.com/ ,and they actually mention that Kings home games will be in HD starting on Dec. 19th. Also, it says VOD is available in Stockton and will be available early 2005, fwiw. =)

one more thing, http://west.comcastsportsnet.com/kings-schedule.asp all the yellow are in HD, that's a very nice sight to see!
I believe Comcast will use one of the two INHD channels - probably INHD2 - to deliver the HD games in Sacramento and through the ComcastSportsNet contract. I'm pretty sure Comcast is one of the major partners in INHD...
You might be right, but we do have this HDSpecial Events channels that never really has anything on it besides NFL Game of The Week (925).

Back on pages 9 and 10 this was originally brought up.

The article in the Sac Bee (from page 9)King's TV ... stated that it would be on 920. Of course this article was within days of 925 being launched. I do not believe we have seen anything from Comcast stating specificially what channel the games would be available on.

If it is on 920, INHD2 will be pre-empted (just like it was for FSN).

And over on our OTA thread, Rory Boyce (of KXTV) said the new Mira truck would be used for the Kings games. I have not read any posts indicating that truck will be ready in time or not.

Kings are in HD on HDSE channel 925 now!!
I just turned on my projector and tuned to 925. I'm getting some shading outside of the 4:3 frame. It doesn't look as good as the NBA-TV HD games that I've seen on InHD.
I'm not getting any picture or sound on 925

Ah came on a minute or 2 later. Just in the time for the last 3.2 seconds of the quarter.

Those dark side panels seemed to be coming from the graphics generator used for the scorebox. When the CG crashed for a while, the bands disappeared and came back when the CG was restored. They seem to have fixed whatever it was during the halftime break.

Nice suprise after coming home from xmas shopping, to see a few minutes of the game in HD. There seems to be several bugs to work out, which is likely why they are starting early.
I looked at about 7:30 - all I got was the standard black screen saying I don't get this channel - is this one of those I'm going to need digital classic for? hmmm

They had transmission problems several times during the game, each one lasting a few minutes. You may have checked in during one of those outages.

Looks like DEC 19th opening day of the KINGS in HD. The Kings are on the road for the new few games, then come back to play the Lakers, but that game is only on TNT, thats in HD, but too bad I don't have DISH anymore. The first CSN HD game will be against the New Orleans Hornets @ 6 pm on SUN. Cannot wait =).

can one of the knowledgeble folks on here tell me what channel 925 is equivalent to in QAM frequency? i figure somewhere in the 100.?? range?

The center frequency of channel 925 is 111 Mhz. It shares IRC channel 98 with INHD1 & 2.

I thought Comcast has so far put no more than two HD channels on a single frequency. If they started to pack three, that is a sure sign of bandwidth limitation. Am I wrong about that?

I believe it is 98.3, but I would have to pull out my cable card and do a rescan to prove it. The last time I scanned the digital digital channels it took over an hour so I'll pass.

It doesn't seem to affect the quality, because all three of these channels look stunningly good. My problem is that these three channels are plagued by drop outs and glitches, while none of the other comcast channels are. I believe this is due to the fact that ch 98 is at 111 Mhz and all the other HD channels are above 525 Mhz.

Does anyone else get the pops and anomolies{sp?} on ABC OTA? On Lost and Desperate housewives...Not sure about other abc shows, as I don't watch many of them.
Someone in the Bay Area was told by someone with Comcast (sorry, I don't know how high up the Comcast person was) that HD DVR launches today in the Stockton area and tomorrow (Friday the 10th) in the Sacramento area.

Whether this is accurate, your guess is as good as mine.
