It's made for Moto systems. According to what I read over at DSL Reports, the RNG 150 is for Sci. Atl./Cisco and the 110 is for Moto systems.

I'd be curious if we are entitled to one free box? we subscribe to Limited and Expanded basic + the digital silver package $36.99(includes HBO).

You're "free box" you've upgraded to a DVR. If it was a basic box you'd likely get the first one for free. Comcast has had so many different pricing schemes for adding boxes over the years it's rediculous. You seem to be under a slightly different pricing structure then I am (you have the older service tiers which uses naming that identifies the digital tier seperate from the analog one). One of the things Comcast is also doing slowly is revamping the billing and getting rid of the various grandfathered service tiers.

awsome! I really hope we get that box here as the motos are big. I think 6412 phase III's or similar(basicly the DVR box without the drive in them) locally. I know that's what my relatives had when they lived in vacaville for HD boxes.

There's no room for one of large those boxes in one bedroom as the top of the dresser/media center the 32" HDTV is on has a full size stereo reciever next to it ontop. Then the media cabinet will barely fit an xbox360. The pace box would be the perfect size to fit in there but I'm not holding my breath. I've read it requires true2way which is only in place in a few Comcast trial markets atm.

It would also be nice if we could buy our own set top boxes instead of renting indefinitely(like with cable modems).

As for our plan I know we are grandfathered in I was doing some comparison recently with comcasts current offerings and it seems to me like we would have to get Digital Prefered Plus($110/month) in order to get the same level over service. That's an extra $13.95 over what we currently pay for limited basic and expanded + digital silver. Now I'm not sure if that new plan includes the limited basic and expanded channels(ones moving shortly digital). It seems like it does/should.

When I went to the Roseville office to exchange the ARRIS modem for a new one, I saw the small box. A customer was upgrading to HD & got a new cable box (black) that was very much smaller than current boxes. This was in January, 2010.

You might check the Roseville office assuming you don't need a box with a harddrive (PVR, DVR) for recording.

hrm I'll definitely have to go by there and check..I was there a few weeks ago asking about DOCSIS 3.0 and noticed they were handing out a few small boxes but those were the little Motorola DTA converters(not STBs). Lets all hope that's the new Pace RNG100 box you saw

It could also be this Motorola DCX3200 box they had at the Roseville Comcast center. Its Dimensions are: 10.2 in W x 10.43 in D x 3.0 in H. Not as small as the pace box but smaller then most of the other Motorolas.

Yes that was my point about the newer plan tiers, they are inclusive the tier(s) below it. Instead of the somewhat confusing way they used to describe it.

Just got back from the local Comcast Center. I found out that they do indeed carry the new Pace RNG110 boxes however the supply has been exhausted in the system(they are all being used/given out already). Also they don't plan on getting any new boxes in until at least march 1st.

So looks like some good/bad news. At least they will have them even though we will have to wait to get them.

Thanks for checking and good to know they'll be carrying them

I've heard some people have been having issues two issues with them. First is noise on channel changes, and IR interference from LCD/Plasmas(they seem to be more susceptible then moto boxes for some reason).

Also the build quality is cheaper(its a low budget hardware box) which I wonder if that might become an issue in the long run.

So I'm somewhat leary atm trying to deciding if I should wait for one or go with a larger moto box.

To update everyone on the HD box situation. I went back to Comcast today and I found out they got an early shipment plenty of brand new Pace RNG110 boxes.

Since the digital Conversion is coming I decided to go ahead and get two since I didn't want to even go near converter boxes for our two HDTV that didn't yet have a cable box.

So far so good. Got them hooked up(via component) and my first impressions are that the built in IR receiver works extremely well on these boxes. The remote range is impressive as I have been able to change channels without any delay at all angles even when you cant see the box. So seems like the resolved that with newer firmware.

One bad thing is I've noticed a slight barely audible crackle when changing channels on both boxes. You have to really listen for it though. Not as big deal.

Now I just need to figure out how to get to the boxes setup menu so I can turn the SD auto stretch off.

So if anyone is looking to get one of these boxes the Roseville Comcast Service Center now has them. Oh as a side they don't have the equiv motos(DCX3200) anymore(at least new).

Sacramento is on the list.

Anyone here actualy been able to get the new DXC3400 series DVR? I guess there is a waiting list from what I was told. It would be nice to have because of the extra disk space not to mention improved pq, box design, etc.

I just got my "We're enhancing our network" flier here in Manteca.

Formula One in HD....woohoo!

Does anyone know if I can exchange a cable box at any Comcast office? Specifically, I'm in El Dorado Hills and my local office in Diamond Springs does not have the DCX3400. From what I hear, the Roseville office does. The website says no (I can only turn in equipment there), but over the phone, one of the customer service reps said yes. Has anyone done something like this?

My local office is about 25 miles away & the Roseville office is about 5 miles & 5 min away; guess where I exchange my cable box or modem .

The only "problem" is that the cable box will be provisioned for Roseville & you would need to call-in to get a new signal sent to your box for your area. It was kinda of nice to see what Roseville that I couldn't get when the county line was only 1 mile away.

I went to the Roseville office yesterday, and I got a flat out NO - I cannot pick up equipment from them, nor any other office aside from the one in Diamond Springs. That stinks...

It does; don't understand why Sacto can pick up stuff from Roseville.

Did Roseville check your account & found that you were in El Dorado area?

When I go there, I just say there was a problem & want an exchange for a working unit; the staff would look up my account via the serial number of the equip & get a new one & have me sign a receipt.

If I am denied next time, I will try the "was going to Fry's & wanted to 'kill 2 birds at once'" or "going to Kaiser, TJMax & .....".

BTW if your looking for the DCX3400 the best way you can get one is by ordering one up from Comcast by calling in at the support number and asking for a self install kit(SIK) to be shipped out to you from them.

This is what I eventually wound up doing here in Roseville to get that particular box. I specifically mentioned the "new black motorola dvr with the 320gb drive" since the Rep didn't know the model number when I called in. They are still extremely rare in the service centers. Although I can say we were offered one after waiting about 3 weeks via the service centers the truxel office in sac came up with however it had a smaller drive inside it(a 250gb) and was used(could tell it had been beaten up by its previous user due to deep scratches all over) not to mention it had a lot of dust in it for a few month old box.

When ours arrived it was in a typical brown UPS box. Under that it was in this big white box which had an XFinitity branded wrapper around it. The box came with packaging(bunch of comcast manuals, remote, hdmi/coax cables, etc) and warped in Moto factory plastic. Then inside this plastic on top of the box noticed the Motorola manual. So I knew it was brand spanking new from the factory. They usually ship the SIKs from some place in Sacramento or So Cal. All you have to do once you get the box all hooked up is call this 24hour activation number then it downloads the guide data/provisioning.

This past weekend Comcast in Chico began encrypting all but the basic QAM channels. We went from about 60 channels to 8. Sad day for HDHomeRun owners as I can see a fee coming up soon.

I just recently hooked up a Sony KDL-40EX500 TV to my Comcast cable (don't worry, I'm setting up a TiVo HD XL box with an mCard CableCARD to get back all the digital channels) and there's one HUGE problem: the audio from KXTV (Channel 10 analog and Channel 10.1 HD) broadcasting ABC SD and HD broadcasts is really cruddy. I saw the first premiere of Dancing with the Stars last night and the treble is really bad.

Meanwhile, the audio from the other local channels in both SD and HD sound really good--does KXTV know about this issue?

You might try posting in the Sacramento OTA forum to see if this is also an issue for OTA users, also a bunch of local TV station folks post in that thread. They might know what is going on too.

Let see this was pretty recent. I know it was at the begging of this month. Received the box around March 3rdish. Checking records I seem to recall placing the order on Feb 26th.

Based on the "by April 6, 2010" date for the digital equipment, when can we look forward to more HD channels?

I checked that message thread and there's been several complaints that the audio level on ABC shows is lower than that of local broadcasts on KXTV OTA--as such, it explains why the sound quality is "muffled."

As for the expanded channel lineup on Comcast Sacramento once the transition is complete, I've talked with their customer service and they are considering adding these channels in HD to the Digital Starter service:

CNN
MSNBC
Fox News Channel
CNBC
History

My brother has CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel on HD in the Bay Area--they look good, though I'm not sure if I want to see all the political pundits and politicians in HD, though.

Can anyone tell me the address of the service center in Stockton where equipment is returned? I need to pay them a visit but haven't found the address by other means.

It should be a lot more than just those... Sac is about 30 HD channels behind Davis and Roseville, we should be (better be!) brought into parity with them.

I got a mailing a while ago that said May 4th. Which is a month later than I had heard before. I have heard that Rancho is the first of the Sac county area to be done, so perhaps the April date pertains to that area?

Thanks for trying, but that seems to only give places where you can pay your bill. Drug stores and such. But I found it another way. In case someone might want to know in the future, it's at 6505 Tam O'Shanter.

The April 6 date was a on a postcard I got last week. I am in north Sacramento (Antelope). Also that is the date of the digital equipment is needed, not necessarily when we will be getting new content.
