Luminance and Black Level on Fujitsu P50?

On the Fujitsu P50 plasma, when "Fine" is selected as the "picture mode" two additional items become available under the user adjustments -- i.e., "Luminance" and "Black Level" are shown as additional adjustments in the Picture menu's Precision Setting menu.

Since the regular Contrast and Brightness settings are still available in this mode, what should Luminance and Black Level be used for, and what's the best way to use them in conjunction Contrast and Brightness?

That would seem to be a personal preference.
Only your eyes are going to be able to discern the difference.
Play with the settings, as all our eyes and our opinioons are different.

Sure, the eye of the beholder and all that, but what are the two sets of controls SUPPOSED to do differently?

That is, what's the intended use difference between Contrast and Luminance or between Brightness and Black Level in the Fujitsu P50 "Fine" mode?

Is one set of controls supposed to be used to fine tune the other? Since Luminance and Black Level are added into the portion of the menus dealing with color temperature, are they supposed to be used somehow to fine tune color temperature, or linearity of color temperature across different light levels, and then use Contrast and Brightness for the normal white and black level settings?

I have a sneaking suspicion the intent here is to add a user level control for at least partial gamma corrections (i.e., use contrast and brightness for basic levels and use Luminance and Black Level to tweak a portion of the response if there doesn't appear to be enough linearity after adjusting Contrast and Brightness), but that's a complete guess.

There's no info in the user manual to claify.

I have the same question.

Aslo, I saw a review of the P50 on another site which was not that flattering, but the reviewer suggested putting the contrast at -15, and the brightness at -5.

I tried that setting and was happier with the PQ (prior to that I though the picture was too grainy).

Are there other settings being used out there?

Thanks, Mike
