Does the Dish 6000 Reciever work with DirecTV?  

It does not process DirectTV signals at this time only DISH Network.

At the root of the question, DirecTV and Dish use different compression systems. Their data streams are completly incompatable. Dish however is DVB which is used throughout Europe. DirecTV has their own in house written protocol.
As DirecTV started this in the early 1990s to be on line in Q4 1994, they had no choice as industry standards did not exist yet for this application.
