Corpus Christi, TX - HDTV - Page 2

Both NBC and PBS broadcast in HD. Too bad NBC rates last in prime-time ratings but we might actually get some HD football games next year!!

If you use QAM (cable in-the-clear) TWC is offering a free preview of the NBA League Pass... Channels 79-3 thru 79-19. Check it out.

and the regular channels I mentioned

86-3 PBS
108-1 NBC
124-7 A Broadcast station I have never heard of before.

Nope, I called the cable company and spoke with the manager and asked when we could expect HD on the other major channels and was told it's not up to the, but the local affiliates. Said there not being required to so they're not compelled to do it anytime soon.

As someone else mentioned, the people around here just don't seem to care. Too damned many blue hairs who have allot of money effecting our local officials. They don't want change or progress, they want to keep a quiet little retirement community. They could care less about the opportunities for our youngsters.

Anyhow, let me get off my soapbox. BTW, no Fox either and now that ESPN2 is being broadcast in HD I asked why we weren't getting that and he said he didn't know.

Bottom line is that it looks like we're stuck on a slow boat to China.

Great info, thanks for these posts.

Anyways, new guy here living on N Padre Island. Just bought an OTA tuner and get good reception out here for PBS, NBC, CBS. No news there. Used to have TWC's digital tier but ditched it until next NFL season.

I did email KEDT (PBS) and KZTV (CBS) about their signal within the past month, here's a small summary (forgive some of my terminology, still kinda new to some of this):

PBS - As I'm sure you've noticed, their broadcast is not pure HD. Their digital signal had a completely different lineup than their regular analog signal up until mid-2005. They used to broadcast true HD shows like "Secrets of the Dead", "Nova", etc., quite a bit each day. Now their digital lineup mirrors their analog lineup. But, no more true HD programming, no more 16:9 aspect ratios, etc. Even shows that I know are recorded in HD (i.e., Nova) are not broadcast in full HD anymore.

They responded and said they were still trying to work out a few kinks/upgrades. The separate digital programming schedule was basically experimental, but now they need to marry up their digital and analog schedules and do some equipment upgrades. Sorry, I don't have the original email, but they expect to have things smoothed out this year.

CBS - received a positive email answering my query about them upgrading from standard DTV to HDTV. They're moving forward and expect to have an HD signal by the end of 2nd qtr 2006. (Not sure if he meant 2nd qtr FY or CY 2006, so I'm assuming worst case and arbitrarily adding an extra 3 months, so I figure sometime around Fall 2006).

FOX / ABC (KIII) . . . where are you guys????!!!!!!!!

I think someone here mentioned KIII's pitiful website. Geez, 10 years ago, lesser companies had better sites than what KIII has now. They need to get with the times. I'm actually thankful that TWC is having problems working something out with them, because they're putting pressure on KIII to make agreements regarding their future digital signal.

Now if I could just pull in Victoria's ABC signal for the Super Bowl this weekend . . .

Again, thanks guys for keeping this thread going.

I heard TWC stuck it to KIII nicely by picking up Victoria's ABC. Good, I am not sure what KIII is planning, but they better get their head out of the dirt before the station just goes away. I really am starting to care much less about local stations. I just want the national feeds in HD, but that's just a dream...

If this is the case then why isn't it being broadcast in HDTV? I thought I read they had it in HD in Victoria?
The Victoria station does transmit HD but TWC is not carrying it. Hopefully this will change before Super Sunday but I am not hopeful.

The current analog feed from Victoria is horrible. The sound has a constant buzz. I am sure they are just limping things along, hoping to reach an agreement with KIII.

Anyone know anything about CableCard and TWC, anything at all regarding their service.

thanks

Has anyone else noticed that the HD feed from NBC was dropped after the olympics? Jay Leno and other shows that were normally broadcast in HD are no longer coming across in HD.
I noticed the same issue with NBCHD yesterday when watching DVR of "The Office" and SNL. I called Time Warner and the customer rep said he will talk with the engineers about my problem. I don't think he understood that it's not a specific problem instead of someones decision to not air anymore HD. He told me to call back if it's not fixed by tomorrow.
Does anyone have KRIS's email so that we can contact the source of the problem and get it fixed? I am sick of looking at fuzzy pictures when I was just getting used to crystal clear images. At least the HD feed lasted through the olympics.
NBCHD seems to be brodcasting in HD again. Now if we could only get ABC, CBS, and FOX to follow suit.

Yes it's really ashame that I have to watch my HD OTA from a Houston Channel rather than our own...sigh...maybe one of these years

Wow what channels do you get OTA in Corpus and how is the quality and can you record them?
I get Houston at certain times of the year, but that amounts to less than 5% of the time....long since gave up on OTA and went to BEV for all my network feeds, both east and west...much less grief!
BEV? what is that and what HD channels do you recieve with it?

The only HD channel in Corpus is the NBC affiliate, KRIS.

PBS is sending out a digital signal, but just sending SD content.

Both ABC & CBS keep promising HD this summer, but nothing yet. I have not had time to go back to my sources for an update. Does anyone know what is the current status for these two channels?

Fox is a lost cause, no plans or interest. Yes Corpus is an HD black hole.
Get out of the hole....outside antenna for meager locals and BEV (Bell Expressvu) in HD to receive all networks east and west feeds, thats Boston and Seattle....do a search under BEV or read my posts under my handle. I also subscribe to *E.

I am guessing that you are a Winter Texan if you are using Canadian Satellite services?

my god, if i have learned anything, corpus is a s***hole town when it comes to anything relating to modernization. this town is stuck in the dark ages! the sad part is that most people around here don't mind it because they're either too old and small minded or too uneducated to care.

Want to see something truly sad? .... Watch our city council debate topics on the local public channel. I swear there's 5% mercury in our water and they're life long thirsty residents if that's as good as their thinking gets.

I noticed on Friday that kiii seemed to be running tests and then programming on 8-1 in 720p. Today there is no signal. I hope this means we have ABCHD in our future.

I ran a scan today and am reieving 8-1 and 8-2 being regular ABC. No audio yet. I thought it might be my set top box but I have an Accurian and a HUMAX and both aren't picking up any audio for channel 8 as of yet. Made my day though

Just thought I would post here to give you guys even more hope.
Our local ABC affiliate here in Beaumont which is owned by the same guys as your local ABC station are going HD at the end of July. They are building a new transmitter tower and will be on the new tower July 1st. The HD equipment is ordered and should be in place by the end of July.
Also the cheif engineer has told me that they will also be doing the local news in HD.
The new cameras and studio epuipment are on the way.
Maybe there is hope for the McKinnon's after all.

Checked my signal on channel 8. KIII has their digital transmitter putting out a signal on this channel, but not encoding it with any information. They are required to do some testing at full power before they can go live. Hopefully, by end of the week they will be up.

KEDT is also playing with their signal and now broadcasting a sub-channel, along with their main channel. It appears to be the Create network in standard definition (http://www.createtv.com/). They are still re-encoding their SD signal, then distorting it on the main digital channel, with no HD being broadcast.

KIII is broadcasting on their digital transmitter. So far the signal is SD, but hopefully HD will not be far behind.

I am receiving a very strong signal, with no issues.
