Yeah, myself and our Chief Engineer went through about every setting possible, trying to get the highest bitrate without errors. Finally found 17.8Mbps for video.

I tried an old outdoor UHF antenna that exists above roof level and can receive a digital Florence channel, but nothing from Huntsville.

If someone is receiving Huntsville OTA from the Florence/Killen area please let me know what equipment and how it is installed (indoor, outdoor, roof top, attic, etc.)

Tired of DirecTv and no HD locals!

Try Using a ChannelMaster CM4228 seems to work well for me. I believe Taz lives in your area and receives them on two antennas. Channel 15 tower is in Minor Hill north east of you and the rest of Huntsville station are just slightly east of you. Channel 48 will be the hardest to pick up due to their power restrictions at this time. The FCC has approved 48 to up there transmission power from about 88kw to 385kw. I have no information as to when they will boost power, maybe when the analog is shut off in Feb. You may get away with a one antenna setup by using a rotor or hopefully pointing just off of 15 while still picking it up and more towards the Huntsville station.
.
I live in Lexington and my channel Master is on a 45' tower so that helps but I still have reception problems and lose 48 during bad weather. Remember, Digital signals you either get them or you don't no in between.

Yep, either a Channel Master CM4228 or an Antennas Direct 91XG work just fine for all stations in Huntsville, picking up from East Florence (near Shoals Creek and the golf course). I did use a CM7775 preamp though.

Happy New Year! Yesterday before I went to the annual New Years get together I went to the diagnostics readout of the DB-2010 hd receiver I use. I went to the digital stream info it has, It's shows whdf as follows

resolution - 1920x1080
progressive - no
aspect ratio - 16:9
bitrate - 17842000
stream is mpeg2 - yes
framrate - 30/1.001
chroma format 4:2:0
colour primaries itu-r bt.709

I don't know how far away I 'm from the tower but I live roughly 50 mi north of Huntsville on a hill using cm7777 with uhf/vhf antenna (pointed north) coupled with a uhf antenna (pointed south) whdf is coming in between 90 to 94% signal strength. Very rarely a dropout....

That signal will get even stronger in March. Currently, we're running at digital at 80%. PQ should be getting better soon, as well as the DD5.1 being fixed.

We have all of the equipment to fix PQ and AQ, we're still testing some things though.

Well let me know if I can help on this end during your testing.
Is whdf going to stay on channel 14?
the reason I want to know is the fox station in Nashville is broadcasting digital on channel 15 and it has never came in well unless you turn the antennas and pinpoint the signal.but pinpointing their signal causes a loss of your signal. I just figure there's co-channel interference between your analog and their digital transmissions.

I am anxious for the switchover to see if everything clears up or goes down the tube.....

Let me know about helping on the testing I can pm you with my contact number

CW was taken down from Dish network due to negotiations for a new carriage agreement price. I still get the over the air signal but no guide info now. Hope they come to an agreement soon. For what its worth I sent a letter to the General Manager to complain.

Long time reader, first time poster. I really appreciate the information everyone provides.

Anywho...has anyone noticed 48.2 this evening? No WeatherPlus. There is a movie on, and there's a "this" logo. Does anyone have any more information about...this?
I guess since they interrupt all their shows with weather information they don't need a full time weather station. I still laugh at the last " A possible thunderstorm warning "
They are still wasting bandwidth with 48.3 with nothing on it.

Thanks, Trip! I tried to do a search, but this is such a common word.

Yes, it's a rather lousy name, but I'm anxiously awaiting the launch of This TV in my area, as it looks to be a very interesting service. I really can't wait for it.

I did some looking around the internet and found their website. The web address is below. All it has is the next few days of programming.

NashDigie signing off.

It says "Unofficial Website" at the bottom. But thanks for the link, I like that. That's more website than I'd seen so far.

Honestly, I don't know what happened with that. I know the carriage agreements were sent out last week. Maybe due to the holiday, Dish didn't open it's mail? Kidding, it just probably got there late.

Also, WHDF will be staying on 14.

Tivo still has the Weather in the guide, nothing in the OTA guide either but weather also.

WAAY-HD ABC has been turned on by DISH Network on Ch. 5910.

They are not showing anything in HD right now, so I can't tell how the HD picture quality is.

I spoke too soon. I am now getting the dreaded yellow screen on ch. 5910.

I sent an e-mail to dishquality@echostar to let them know.

Sorry to ask a question that has already been asked, but I haven't found the answer that makes sense yet. My brand new HDTV scanned my analog basic cable and found the local stations that Comcast is digitally re-broadcasting (clear?) QAM - what a pleasant surprise.

My problem is the TV didnot find the local ABC station (WAAY). I am in Huntsville and the cable company is Comcast, but my clear QAM channels don't seem to agree with other people's designation. For example, the NBC channel (WAFF) is on 103-5 (or 103.5?)

Can someone tell me the channel designation for WAAY for Comcast QAM in Huntsville?

A complete clear QAM channel list for Comcast in Huntsville would also be nice.

Thanks

I have a frustrating issue and was hoping someone on this forum may have some wisdom to spare. I live in Scottsboro, but since there wasn't a Scottsboro forum and Huntsville was the closest I decided to jump on.

At any rate here in Scottsboro, I am too far from Huntsville to receive OTA broadcasts having not yet mounted a rooftop antenna. Our local cable provider Scottsboro Electric Power Board pipes out what I believe to be digital channels over their cable system. There are only a few and it is ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and a few others. I can pick up these channels on one of my Digital TV's a Symphonic 32 in. (walmart model: WF32L6) that I picked up a couple of years ago, but not my Sharp 46 in (Sears model: LC-46SB54U) that I got on Black Friday in 2008. The channels include 101.1,.2,.3 102.1,.2,.3 & 103.1,.2,.3,.4 . When I dial up 101.1 on the Sharp, for instance, I get an error that it can't find this channel, yet it registers other "digital" channels on the same cable system that have no broadcast (104.1, for example).

Does anyone have a clue as to why that may be? Could it be that the Sharp is an inferior product to a Symphonic? Is there any way to correct it?

Try swapping the 2 tvs, do a channel re-scan, and see if the Sharp is able to pick up different channels. It could have something to do with the cable connection at that particular location.

I wish that would fix it. The Symphonic was in the den until I got the Sharp. I picked up those channels where the Sharp is now. And I have done 4 or 5 autoscans on the Sharp.

Then it definitely sounds like a problem with the Sharp to me. If it is fairly new and still under warranty I would check into replacing it or having it repaired.
