I believe I can answer this. November 1 seems like a prime, set date for throwing the switch, because it means we will miss the World Series and the NFL on the previous day. That sounds logical, especially the way things work in this world.

Heh heh, that's funny.

Nothing really to update on, I believe they're waiting on Fox to come in and setup the splicer.

taz,
Does that mean that all the hardware/software required to transmit HD is now on hand at WZDX and what's required now is the installation/set up/testing?

Don't know, haven't heard anything.

Well, Nov 1 is rapidly approaching and no news yea or nay about WZDX, and everyone knows that no news is good news, right?

Everyone should begin checking as soon as tonight, (October 26). I was told that Fox Eng. is on site at WZDX installing the splicer system.

I agree, let's keep an eye out and post whenever someone sees something. But at the same time, let's give them until November 1st before everyone starts calling.

It's my understanding that the affiliate needed to have everything else ready to go before the FOX guys would come out and install the splicer, especially for testing purposes.

Let's cross our fingers for a little NFC HD-football this weekend.

Looks like I'll be purchasing an Antenna after all.

I wonder if the 8000HD box will record from an OTA source... Hmmm.

From the tennesseevalleyhd.net site it looks like they are having equipment problems. Taz said they may have to send a piece of hardware back to the manufacturer. No word on how much of a delay this may be.

I'm sure you guys are like me and just glad to see progress. We may not get NFL HD this week but at least they are working hard to get it going soon.

That wasn't me, that was Joe, he actually works for WZDX.

Though I like the jab at my employer a few posts down in that thread.

Let's hope they get it going in time for "The Rebel Billionaire" Nov 8th(?). It's supposed to be in HD. BTW, I'll pay for the FEDEX next day air for the replacement part!

Besides NFL games, I'm looking forward to House, M.D.. November 16th I believe.

I dunno...the guy playing House looks a little too much like John Malkovich (sp?) for my taste.

I agree that House looks like a new series worth a shot. I love 24 and when the guy who does 24 comes up with a new one you have to give it a shot.

Any word on the equipment progress?

Well, when will FOX have it's first real HD show so that we in N. Alabama will be able to tell if WZDX has switched over. Anybody know?...Anybody?...Beuller?...Beuller?

They already have several. I know for a fact Bernie Mac is broadcasted in HD.

WZDX is in it's troubleshooting mode right now, I believe they will go back to real OTA testing next week, using this week for troubleshooting and/or getting replacement equipment.

HDTV on Analog cable?
If I am about to receive basic cable, not digital, but I have a Sony LCD TV KDF50WE655 with cable card slot (do any of the local providers have the cable cards as of yet) and ASTC HD tuner, will I still be able to receive an HD feed on NBC, CBS etc? Will my tv decode the digital signals? Or will I have to pull OTA for HD shows? Thank you.

You'll have to use an antenna or subscribe to their digital/HDTV package.

It really depends on how bad you want to be able to watch ESPN-HD or DiscoveryHD. Comcast currently offers cable card access in the Huntsville area, I don't remember the exact pricing off the top of my head, but you can get the basic HD package on top of the basic analog package. Don't let Comcast tell you any differently. The basic HD package is InHD, InHD2, ESPN-HD, WHNT-HD, FOX54-HD, and DiscoveryHD. With an OTA antenna, you should be able to pick up FOX, CBS, NBC, and PBS in HD locally.

As I said a while back, we put up a new antenna, which is a dual analog/digital antenna. I also said that at first we will be transmitting from our station in Florence, this hasn't changed. The real update is that our digital antenna for our station in Florence came in this past week, to my surprise.

We still need a few more components, most importantly the digital transmitter and encoders. I'm not sure when these will arrive, but I'm assuming very soon since the antenna just came in.

The real question is whether the encoder will be just a standard 480i encoder or a 1080i HD encoder. I'm out of the loop on this one, so we'll just have to wait and see. As soon as the encoder comes in, I'll post an update.

I'm not sure how much it'll help, but you guys may think about calling the station and inquire about when the station is going HD. Just don't mention my name, I already give them enough hell about it.

Also, we put up an antenna for DirecTv last week, the signal is good, and the folks from DirecTv will be out Monday to do their thing. I'm not sure how long it'll take to get our signal on though.

Titan TV now lists "The Rebel Billionaire" and "House" tomorrow as being in HD on WZDX. Any truth to that rumor?

Don't know, TitanTv showed the NFL games as being in HD yesterday also. Hopefully by tomorrow they'll have the splicer online.

Well, "Billionaire" and "House" WERE NOT in HD last night. I guess Titan TV is only going on HD schedules, not actual progress.
