I had a noise that I first thought was the fan, but ended up being the color wheel. The way I found out that it was the color wheel was I would change between different input sources to the TV and the pitch of the noise would change briefly. If it is a fan, that should be an easy change. If it is the color wheel, you might want to have them send another TV out and take that one back. You could have the Light Engine changed, but you are in the period that you can send it back. I had a cosmetic issue with my TV from Buydig and they were great at sending out another no charge.

The fan running after the TV is off and cooled down is normal. This fan is cooling the tuner part of the TV that is always working, even when the TV is off for the TV Guide function. It shouldn't be too loud, but you will notice it running in a quiet room.

Toshiba has apparently removed IEEE 1394 ports from the new 62HM196 models. Therefore, I have no idea how I'm going to use my RCA Audio/Video Hard-drive for recording shows using TVGOS.

The TV is currently in route and I may have to refuse delivery if all I can do is use a VCR for recording.

Does anyone know if the new 62HM196 can be used with a AVHD? Can I use my existing RCA AVHD that has only IEEE1394?

I need to know quickly so I know whether to accept delivery of this TV. PANIC!!

common118: I would be very surprised if your model of tv should have a fan running constantly, even when off. What heat is the tv producing when off? Basically nothing I would guess. I'm thinking that there may be something wrong with the temperature sensor or circuit that controls the fan. I personally own a 52hmx85 and there is definitely nothing running while the tv is off. I should add that the fan/color wheel are very quiet even during use.

An authorized shop calls and wants me to bring in the TV(45 minutes away). I told them the warranty was in home. They said again that they had to contact Toshiba and get authorization to drive. I called Toshiba myself to see what the hold up was. Come to find out, Toshiba had already paid this place to make the trip to my house before I brought the unit in to them. Toshiba said they would have their legal department contact them.

A week later(today) Toshiba called and told me to contact the repair center to make arrangements to pick my set up. I called and the repairman was pretty pissed at me. He told me that TV's are supposed to make a little noise. I told him not like this they aren't. He then told me that I need to go home, turn the TV on, call him back and hold the phone to the back of the TV so he can hear the problem himself. I laughed at the guy and told him that may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. So, I called Toshiba again. What a bunch of goof balls.

Don5328: your problem has nothing to do with dust. It's a manuf. defect. From what I remember, Toshiba "forgot" to add locking washers on a certain part of the tv, which sometimes comes loose with shipping. It ends up obstructing some of the light and you get the shadow

Are retailers backing off because they lack 1080p input?

Where are they? People have been lining up to buy Sammys and Sonys and Mits by the truckload as soon as they're available and their forums are buzzing. This place is dead. Even Toshiba's website has this year's 1080 sets buried at the bottom of their product list under the 720s and last year's entire line. These sets have been shipping for a couple months right? What am I missing here?

Argh. Ok, I just got off the phone with Lee at notOne notCall and what was certainly one of the most pleasant online ordering experiences I can recall. I'm now a member of what appears to be a woefully diminutive brotherhood of Toshiba DLP owners. I can only assume the small number of Tosh purchasers is due to the extraordinarily high level of intelligence, insight, and discernment necessary to recognize that Tosh rools. I also understand that people who own Toshiba products are better looking than people who choose other brands.
