Ground level TV currently on rabbit ears and gets all local channels.

Basement TV has rooftop digital antenna connected via coax cable. This TV does not get channels 7 (KOAT) or 13 (KRQE). I've tried autoscan and manual scan and they don't seem to be there.

Is there any way it could be the TV? Has anyone seen or heard of this before?

Do some antennas not do well with some frequencies?

I haven't tried moving the TV that gets all channels to the other antenna. At least that might tell me if it's the TV or antenna.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Super Bowl is on 13 and I would like to watch it in the basement on the big screen.

Yes. And KOAT and KRQE moved back to their old VHF frequencies (while KASA and KOB stayed UHF) after the analog switch off. Make sure whatever antennae you have is UHF/VHF.

Edit: bah, I didn't flip over to the last page to see if anyone else had responded.

or check out this homemade antenna. I love mine. I made one using Jumbo Paper clips from walmart and it works great. I guess you could use coathangers too.

TVT is probably Television Tabasquena. Already can find it on a Mexican satellite so I don't need to DX it.

I imagine the DX'ed signal is one of the translators. The main feeder station to those translators is what is on satellite. I like Mexican TV as it reminds me of New Mexico - a lot of states have their own state networks and use satellite to feed translators in communities throughout their state.

mexicoradiotv.com is a good site from Fred Cantu for learning/researching licensed Mexican radio/tv stations. I definitely use it as a resource when I identify new signals on the mexican sats.

wow, looks like someone is going to lose their job in the morning!

Right as Evan L. was about to take the podium for his gold-medal crowning in mens singles figure skating, KOB's encoder decided to take a dump! Ten minutes later and the station is still not back on the air properly.

What a time with the Olympics and high local ad rates for the encoder to go south! I wonder if the news is even on now or not because the transmission is off the air. KOB is probably laying the newscast on tape for a rebroadcast or even to give Commiecast viewers the news because I"m sure Commiecast has a fiber link to KOB so they don't have to rely on over-the-air transmissions like Directv, DISH (yes, it's out for KOB) and antenna viewers.

Couldn't care less about the Olympics. Wish it was over already.

Well, it's looks like not much going on here for this local thread.

I guess, I gave up on KRTN-LD to go RTV "Retro TV Network".

But there is a good news, that I found out there will be a first ever U.S. Free To Air DBS service coming soon!! It will be on lower KU band 11.7 to 12.2 GHz.

Here's the link....

Spread the word!!

I don't know what the story is on KRTN. It's been removed from the most part from the RTV page but the satellite feed is still active and using the KRTN identity at the top of the hour ID.

As for freedbs, I"m glad your enthusiastic. I'll call it vaporware or short lived. I wonder what the business plan is, especially considering the costs of uplinking, transponder space, and program acquisition. It's hard to think there will be enough FTA donators to pay the bills beyond the money initial investors have put into the operation.

I'm more enthusiastic over the Canadian free DBS service, but it's tempered by the fact I"m sure they'll encrypt it so people south of the border like me can't watch Citytv, CBC, CTV, etc. for free and authorize it just for Canadian viewers.

BTW, KOB is off the air again! I bet they'll say it's another "power outage" issue. I hope KOB didn't cheap out in the most important part of their station - the encoder or a genny at the crest in case of power outages.

At least I"m watching the Olympics on the backyard dish, and even found a bonus! If the announcer irritates me, I found an audio channel that is natural sound, so I can skip the announcer if I want. I probably will stick with satellite the rest of the night instead of wondering if KOB is back on the air and if their encoder will take another dump tonight during primetime.

I note that I have lost both KRQE and KOB OTA.

I have been having problems with KOAT since the most recent storm blew through, but today it was back. However when I was checking my other channels, I note that 13 and 4 were out. A friend a mile or so south of me (Academy and Tramway) also reported that they were down for him as well.

yep, KOB is out for the second time in about a week and KRQE is out for me, too.

I am beginning to think tonight actually is a power outage issue (because of KRQE being out, too) and based on the fact I don't see KOB's encoder trying to reboot/reset like I did when KOB went out the last time while claiming it was a power outage that knocked them off the air.

I wonder if LIN gave genny priority to KASA because of the American Idol meal ticket. KOB should do something because I'd hate to think how much local revenue they are losing tonight from noone other than maybe Comcast customers being able to see the local ads in the Olympic primetime programming.

Err, anyone else having problems receiving KOB and KRQE OTA? I've got a 0 signal on both those channels, everything else is fine. Really weird

Edit: and now they're fine.

and KOB is gone again (while KRQE seems to be back).

I suppose for the rest of the night, if you were trying to watch KOB off-air or on DISH/DIRECTV, vancouver2010.com is your friend for results of what you didn't get to see on KOB!

Yes KOB-DT was off the air, and same goes for KRQE-DT, KNAT-DT, so called KRTN-LD it's showing the wrong call letter KTEL-LD, they might be breaking the FCC's rules on station's ID's requrement.

Well this is now officially the worst Olympics coverage of all time. It can't really get any worse than a black screen can it?

I bet it might not matter what the calls are in the PSIP (as long as the PSIP is present) and what counts are the visual/aural calls given on the air.

I'm sure the females and their suffering husbands/boyfriends are happy tonight in that the women's singles final isn't on the air tonight and not being able to see it. So far, the coverage has been some country cross-country, Mens 500m short track skating qualifications, and currently airing is the female 2-women bobsled run 3.

I was just able to see Lindsey Von "do something" (I won't spoil in case someone is going to download the broadcast from a working affiliate or another country). Of course I really would have liked to be able to watch alpine skiing live

probably not a problem with the backyard dish to find that feed if I was around. CTV or TSN probably would have had it, or I could have found a pool feed somewhere.

Alpine is okay, but not something I watch regularly, even though there seems to be feeds from Europe on the dish every weekend that there are competitions.

The Olympics go a little longer and then it'll be spring training exhibition season to keep my backyard dish busy!

sthscan,

Acorrding to FCC's database website, it's shows KRTN-LD channel 39.1 not KTEL-LD 47.1, as a ham radio OPS, we must alway ID's ourself with the right call letter.

They have doing it over 1 month now.

What does the visual/aural ID say? The PSIP ID may not matter as might not be considered a legal ID, unlike the visual/aural ID.

Yes, hams must ID themselves properly, but they do it aurally (or visually if they do SSTV) because that's the legal way to ID their transmissions.

sthscan,

What I see is all KTEL-LD Video and Audio ID's and PSIP 100%.

They are getting in trouble with the FCC IMHO!!

You can tune on channel 31.1 and it will remapped to 47.1 if you can get this signal.

KOB made their outage the top news story. It appears the power outage was caused by KNAT's transmitter tower falling onto power lines.

That certainly would explain why KNAT is off the air as I type this. I bet people are going to have to find their religion TV elsewhere for awhile because it doesn't sound like a quick fix for KNAT to get the tower back up and get back on the air.

Wow sthscan,

That is breaking news!!, It's looks like TBN, selling their stations like crazy around the country from I read from the FCC's database website, they must be going broke!!

Have they take care of their own tower or not!?

We will see how the story's go.....

TBN is selling their translator network having decided that it's not worth converting to digital. The full-service stations, on the other hand, are not only being kept, but the signals are being maximized. At least one is already done.

I'd imagine that involves transmitting a HD resolution service since TBN just finished testing the distribution of their HD service.

I'll have to see if KNAT puts up a restoration sat feed for cable or if they'll just tell cable headends to use the satellite TBN national feed until KNAT gets back on the air.

TBN going broke, I highly doubt it ...
No, still the 5 SD services. I have the suspicion they're going to leave the 5 SD services alone on the TBN stations, making HD only available for cable.

Anyone having problems with KOAT?

They were up briefly last evening, but are back in the weeds for me now. Over the last 3 days, it has been hit and miss, usually "miss".

Hmm, nope. When KOB went down I flipped thru all the major channels and KOAT was fine.

Yes it was....but I could not get signal lock this morning.

EDIT: As of noon, I am getting decent signal again.

And back in the toilet.

Signal strength is bouncing around at 20% tops, and nothing steady enough to get lock.

Fortunately there is not a single ABC show that we care to watch. :-)

Kudos to ABC and KOAT for a beautiful looking and sounding broadcast last evening.

I finally resolved my KOAT OTA reception issues, and was rewarded with what may well have been the best looking live broadcast I have even seen on my system. Completely spectacular. Well done!
