Mitsubishi WD XX725 owners thread - Page 21

Since this thread has touched a lot on PQ and alignment, I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had my 62725 for about a week now. So far, I'm pretty happy, though, there are some issues with the PQ that are really bothering me. I seem to have a problem with shadows (or something).

These football images are taken from OTA antenna on a digital station.

These images from Halo are using Monster Video 3 component cables. The shadows on the text isn't very apparent in these pictures, but in person they are really annoying. It makes my friends say, "Why is the picture blurry?" It's not something I want to hear after spending 4K on a TV! An important note, if I enable 480P this shadowing problem occurs. If I have it in 480i mode, the shadows disappear. Why is this?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Is there something I can tweak? I've already tried turning on and off the video enhancements (such as "Video Noise", "DefinEdge", etc)

One more thing I hope someone can clarify for me....

What's the deal with NetCommand's "learning" function. Every time I learn buttons for one remote, it wipes out what was learned for another remote. Specifically, I havea "regular" Tivo D* receiver (video 2 input on TV) and a Sammy 360 HD Sat. receiver (HDMI input on TV). I can't seem to get NetCommand to "learn" both of these remotes at the same time!??!?!

Any ideas?

So I finally did it. My 725 is coming on Tuesday. I made the purchase on Friday and was told by the A/V store that THEY would do the Hookup and not Comcast. They said call Comcast and schedule the deliver of the HD receiver ...etc. So I called on my ride home, and they said.."Ok...no problem....how about October 19". I FLIPPED!!!. I've researched this TV since it was announced and now I have to wait another 2 weeks...This won't stand.. I called Comcast back and pleaded with the agent. No dice... the 19 was still on. TV place called and said they can deliver as early as THIS TUESDAY. I want this TV.....so Today I called Comcast back yet again, and this time tried the pity approach. After Pleading....making sure 'Tamika' knew I only needed the tech to come to my house and drop off the HD box and cables. SUCCESS!!!!! Comcast will come between 7am and 9am and the Tv will come sometime after that.

Ok..back to the TV. Camera Stop in Medford NJ has some nice sets, with knowledgable people. Got a 5 yr warrenty added on for cheap.. (PM me for details). It Doesnt include the Lamp....but you can't get everything. Purchased the matching stand for now, as my wife and I are looking for something nice to match our family room. I took advantage of the Mitsu financing, which I did 10 years ago when I purchased my first 50" Mitsu.

So..can you tell i'm totally psyched about this tv??? Now to update my components . I have an Onkyo/Integra receiver with Energy Take 5 speakers and just bought a 'cheapy' progressive scan DVD player for now. I really want to get a combo Hi-Fi VCR/DVD Recorder combo, but can't swing it right now. Also a TiVo is looking pretty nice right about now too...but I'll wait for that (Christmas is coming....) I also have the Center Speaker Dilehma. I'll have to see what I decide.

Anyway....Thanks to all for your great observations. I'll let you know how everything goes.

Timing worked out Perfect...as Eagles are on a By-Week this week and I should be all up and running by Next Sunday!!!.

ROCK ON!!!

Thanks for the link...just not a war I feel like fighting right now.

On the OTA question, I know the 52725 has a built in OTA tuner. I was asking whether the Phase III DirecTV satellite dish has a built in OTA antenna. Someone told me it did, but I have not been able to confirm this.

Well, I got number 3 today and spent some time calibrating this afternoon to get it out of tourch mode. Alignment on this set was almost square. I went in and tweaked slightly and all seems perfect.

Its interesting this set had 35 hours on it like the first one, so maybe my 2nd one missed the testing somehow and that is why the geometry was off, oh well.

I took a look for the reflection issue some of you mentioned and as of yet dont see it on my new one. But I will check later in a very dark room as I want to get a few hours on it today and recalibrate tomorrow.

But so far its great!

Where are you enabling the 480P?

I can try and simulate, is this XBOX, Playstation 2 or maybe a PC? We have tried all with the first set and even with Composite video they look better than the pictures you reference (we used the front inputs).

I have to say I hate monster, and I really think the cables from BlueJeans cable are better and cheaper. I am currently using Tara Labs component video from the DVD (and I also have some Virtual Dynamics component cables and balanced interconnects) and BlueJeans DVI-HDMI for the Dish 921.

Let me know...

I was surfing through the OTA HD channels tonight and all of a sudden my remote wouldn't respond. I turned the tv off and back on, then neither the remote nor the front panel controls would respond. After a system reset, everything is fine. Has anyone else seen this with their XX725? I'm using version V26 004.03. Is this the latest firmware?

Thanks.

Well I guess I'm not the only one to have this problem. I have had this too but I couldn't turn the TV on at all. From the remote, or from the front panel. I have the V26 004.02 firmware, and I thought that because I've seen the .03, not having the problem, that my outdated firmware was the problem. I guess that theory is out the window. I have called the Mits reps and they said that they would get in touch with me within 24-48 hours. Well this has to be seen. I called on Thursday nite and haven't heard anything yet. I was going to tell them that I had the .02 version of the firmware, but didn't because somewhere I read that you weren't suppose to fiddle with the Service Menu. Is this right, or can I tell them what I have without feeling guilty? Now I feel that I'm back in the hunt for the perfect TV, and not alone. Thank you: Lyle

The Phase III dishes do not have a built in OTA antenna. The person who told you that was mistaken.

This sure sounds like the problem the first 525 owners had, a problem fixed with the first FW upgrade shipped by Mits. It's also got me thinking about this FW business. I realize the general consensus here is that the latest firmware revisions contain all previous fixes for the set. I subscribe to this belief. However, there are a few observations that make me question this belief.

1. Some 525 and 725 owners with FW revisions 4.02 or greater are having reset and OTA reception problems that were fixed in the first FW upgrade.

2. Software version number seen in the service menu is called "NetCommand Software" number, not "xx525/725 Software" number as one might expect.

3. First FW upgrade for 525 owners corrected reset problems but did not increment the FW revision number.

4. A Mits CSR told me there are no general firmware upgrades, just fixes for the specific problem an owner is having.

Taken together it could mean that the FW number we are seeing is not the revision number of the set but only the revision number of the NetCommand part of the software. In other words, one would only see their revision number move up if the FW upgrade they just applied contained revisions to the NetCommand part of the software only.

This theory would be more solid if most or all 725 owners were having these problems. They aren't. So am I just reaching?

Yep, for another beer.

Well, after playing with the TV and my digital camera, I have some pics of my setup. Overall I am very impressed with the picture quality. Xbox looks great as well and PS2 is not bad. My only complaint is the internal reflection/bright spot I see on a dark screen. I will be posting pictures in the next few posts...

First a few pics of the room setup...

Thanks for the pics UMD_Terp. Very nice set up you have there. Linda Cohn looks a bit blurry though. Was that on purpose?

Test pattern showing color fringing/chromatic abberation. This is at the very top left edge of the TV. Not bad at all... the center of the TV shows none of this effect:

Now the bad... These are pics of the internal reflection/bright colored spot I see. I will be contacting the service center or Mitsubishi about this on Monday. My 52525 did not have this at all. I think there is a problem with the either the light engine or the way it mates to the lamp assembly that is allowing light to reflect and spill into a mirror somewhere. Only noticeable with a completely dark screen and it does not show up when the TV is off.

There are after-market clip-on antennas that seem to get less than rave reviews in other than the strongest signal areas.

UMD_Terp,

I have the exact same reflection spot on my 525. I spoke with my sales guy at Tweeter and since I'm swapping for the 725 in the next few days, I decided not to swap for another 525. I also suspect some sort of light leakage which is probably easily fixed.

I had a similar problem this morning where the TV wouldn't respond to the remote commands. Then, there was an onscreen message that came up that said something like reset remote in NetCommand menu.

Very strange.

For some reason after a few minutes of leaving it alone everything began working fine again. It reminds me of when your PC locksup and you have to wait for a process to complete before it responds.

I will be watching Football all day and put some hours on this set and will report back later in the day and let you know if the problem returns. It might be interesting to check w/Mits tomorrow though.

Well, I will call the service center Monday. If the problem is an easy fix, I woud rather just have them fix the thing. Whenever you get a new TV, there is a chance of something else being wrong. Except for this problem, the TV has otherwise been perfect.

I had this happen once to me when switching from an HD channel to a SD digital channel. It froze when it tuned the SD channel in. Anyone else who is experiencing this: Do you have a cablecard? What is your setup? I found an easy fix that worked: I simply pressed and held the power button on the TV itself until the TV started to shut down. Once it shut down, I fired it back up and was fine. I did get some strange Netcommand Mode message.

I am use the DISH921 and have regular cable into the TV without a cablecard. It has worked perfectly the last hour or so.

hmm.. I had attributed it originally to maybe a cablecard communication issue, but that may not be...

Did you check your set for any bright spots yet?

BTW I checked for reflections this morning and dont see any at all. I looked at the pictures and it sure seems like a cover or somthing came loose inside and light is reflecting on a mirror.

Thats good to hear...

I think it may be something simple like that as well...

Is there any happy owners with the 725 series that are happy and has a defect free tv? After reading allot of post's these past few weeks there seems to be allot of problems with the Mits DLP line. I have to make a decision soon so Sound Advice can replace my 55813 that is defective so I don't know if I should go with the new Samsungs Tantus series that is coming out or should I go with the Mits 725. Thank's for any input you all have .

Don't get scared off by some of the (IMO minor) problems. With this group, there's no such thing as "defect free tv". It comes down to what you prefer personally....there's always trade-offs. I read posts and threads for over a year, and finally bought the 62725....it's nice.
