Does anyone know of any problems with the transmitter/tower/dtv signal from wtte over the last week or so? I have known reception issues with wtte/wsyx (see my posting above), but I have had no trouble receiving wtte since getting my Terk/Samsung rig hooked up in September. Also, as far as I know this problem is not affecting wsyx, though I rarely watch wsyx so I can't know for sure. Anywho, I'm trying to dianosis the problem, and I don't know where to look for accurate info on transmitter problems. I've seen references here and there about people "contacting the engineer" at this station or that station, but don't have clue how one does this.

Anyone have any info, or know how I might get any?

We just upgraded one TV and added a RCA digital box and was very surprised at the picture quality of over the air digital. I live 8 miles on the other side of Laurelville on a hill and have no problem finding the stations during setup. Now for the problem. I get 4.1,4.2,6.1,6.2,10.1,20.2-20.5 and 53.1. I do not get AT ALL 28. Now, the channels I do get are perfect. No problems at all. I turned the antenna a little to try and get 28 to come in and nothing. It just will not find it. I just put the antenna up 4 yrs ago and have no problem with the other channels, but I can't figure out why it doesn't see 28. The digital TV does the same thing. I called Radio Shack and the guy said they have a couple between $50 & $90. But if it's the channel, then I don't want to waste my money right now. Is anyone else having a problem? Also, I see that there is a 10.2-10.5 and 20.1, yet I can't find them.

Time Warner has added a bunch of new HD channel in the past few days. The channels are CNN HD, Fox News HD, Travel Channel HD, BIO HD, FX HD, Hallmark Movie Channel HD, LMNHD, USA HD, Science Channel HD, TLC HD, MGM HD, and ABC Family HD. I saw that some of the channels are not working yet, but I hope when I get home tonight they're.

is anyone else in columbus using an external dvr-expander drive on their TWC box? and if so, has it been crapping out on you in the past couple of weeks?
It's been working just fine. Sounds like your box or drive.
do you mind me asking what box you're using? mine's the 8300hd. is yours an HD, an HDC or just an 8300?

there's a guy in the esata-it works thread who's having the same problems i am, from right around the same date, with the same gear . . .

Do you need a box from WOW or will the HD ATSC/QAM tuner in our TV bring in the broadcast channels 4.1, 6.1 etc. in HD?

WOW tells me I would need their box.

WOW tells me I would need their box.

I have the WOW Basic/Standard line up and I get NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and WOSU in HD without a box.

Just hook your cable directly to your TV and let it do a scan scan for the digital channels. They won't be on 4.1, 6.1 etc.

Thanks crooze - that's good to know about WOW getting Columbus broadcast channels in HD without a box.

TW has suddendly jacked our rate from $77 to $98 a month for standard cable and standard road runner internet.
I'm looking for an alternative and WOW seems to be it.

Picture quality on TW varies greatly from channel to channel as does audio level.

What's the picture and sound quality like on WOW out of Columbus?
Most of the channels are pretty consistent in regards to video and audio quality. There are a few exceptions but most of what I watch I've recorded on my PC/DVR via an antenna. With the number of shows that are available online through sites like Hulu or the actual networks web sites I'm seriously considering dropping my cable TV service all together.

I can tell that WOW has increase my rates every year since I've used them. Usually about $5 each year. On the other hand the internet speed for my package has increased over the years from 1mb download (I'm not sure what my starting upload speed was) to it's current speed of 10mb download 1mb upload with no intervention on my part.

Overall I guess I'm pretty satisfied with their service.

TK76, by law all cable systems can not encrypt the local HD Broadcasts. So yes you will get the locals in HD if your TV has a QAM tuner.

BTW, if you are considering WOW, I'm a local Direct Sales Rep for WOW. I can answer any questions you might have and give you free installation as well as discounts that if you were calling the call center you wouldn't get. Call me at 614-353-5841. It's my work cell so you can call me anytime.

I'm a very satisfied WOW customer. Just upgraded to Beyond TV 4.9 which supports QAM reception. The scan of QAM stations did not find the WSYX or WTTE stations. Can you provide (or direct me to another source) the Major and Minor values so that I can directly enter those stations?

I am currently using Dish for South Asian channels and the 200 domestic ch bundle (all Standard Def). I need to upgrade (domestic channels, at least) to HDTV, having recently purchased a Samsung DLP set. Most likely, I'll have to keep the S Asian channels from Dish in RDTV, but need the rest of the ch in HD.

Which of the 3: Dish, ATT, TW provide the best picture quality (with multiple tuner DVR set-top boxes)?

I'll need to drive at least 3 TV's one of which will be HDTV, for now (I'll upgrade the others in the next few months).

The important consideration (in that order of importance) are:

Picture quality
channel selection
monthly cost
DVR feature
multiple tuner (at least 2)

I am mainly looking for discussion about the picture quality, hardware (de)merits of the various receivers used by Dish, ATT, TW.

For example, which one provides the most ch. in 1080i?
Do any of them show ch in 1080p?
Which one compresses the signal the least?
Which one has the least artifacts?
Most capable DVR?
Most # of tuners?

Thanks.
Aloke
PS: I have internet through RR, which I will keep. My landlines are thru ATT.
Bump?

So far, I have heard -ve reports on TWC (don't know why) and ATT Uverse (they compress their signal for transmission and to be able to record 4 HD streams simultaneously).

Any truth to that?

I'll need separate set-top-boxes (2 tuners each) for different rooms with TWC. With ATT, 1 box will record 4 channels, with another box in the other rooms to access any/all recorded shows.

How does WOW compare with these? in picture and features?

Thanks.
Aloke

TWC added several more HD channels to the Columbus area lineup today. With the additional channels that were added last month, TWC has added over 20 new HD channels in the past month alone!

After what seems like waiting forever for TWC to catch up with the DishNetwork, DirecTV, and U-verse, we finally have a pretty impressive listing of HD channels. I count 53 actual channels, not including 'on-demand' or 'PPV' channels. The satellite companies like to claim well over 100 HD channels, but they include dozens of individual 'PPV' channels; sports-alternate channels (that are active intermittently); and regional-sports channels (that are limited to specific regions). Plus, in most cases, the satellite companies do not include CW or PBS in their HD-local lineups (yet).

I offer my kudos to TWC for not only catching up, but for also not adding on a $10 HD access fee like Dish, Direct, and Uverse, do. Now, keep 'em coming. There are still lots more national HD channels available to add. I would especially like to see all of the Premium-extra channels (ie: HBO2, ShoToo, MoreMax, etc.), the Premium-On Demand channels in HD, and the Big-10 alternate channels in HD. Plus, Comedy Central HD just launched yesterday, and BBCA-HD will be available soon.

TWC-MidOhio HD Lineup (as of 01/14/09):
700 HBO HDTV (Premium)

Looks like Dish HD customers will have the Columbus locals in digital/HD soon. This post over at satguys, http://www.satelliteguys.us/1662740-post1.html, shows they've uplinked the channels, but this is to Dish's recently launch satellite and is currently being tested. It's no guarantee, of course.

I, like everyone else, am fired up about the new HD channels. Keep them coming. Question - does TWC broadcast in MPEG2, MPEG4, or both depending on the channels? Thanks.

How do current Dish HD customers in Columbus get to see their local channels in HD?

Over the air antenna?

Is anyone else having trouble getting SciFi HD to come on? All I'm getting is a black screen.

The sales page for Dish HD says that one can add local HD Channels for $5/mo.

That must be for selected locations (excluding CMH)?

Try unplugging and then plugging back in your receiver. This will cause a cold boot and make it update. I had to do that with one of my receivers too and that fixed the problem.

Locals are $5.99 for SD or HD. There's a disclaimer indicating that HD is not available in all areas or for all available local stations.

My samsung TV has auto search for unscrambled HD channels connected to its antenna input. It says:

"In Cable mode, you can select the correct analog signal source among
STD, HRC, and IRC by pressing the ◄ or ► button, then press the ENTER
button. If you have Digital cable, select the signal source for both Analog
and Digital."

Is Time Warner unscrambled local channels in Columbus "STD, HRC, and IRC"? Whatever that means ...

I have TWC Mid-Ohio from Athens...I just noticed a HUGE boost in sound coming from the box.

It had always been quiet even on max volume, now it's not terribly loud but it's a lot better than it once was.
Anyone hear any rumors of if/when we will get ComedyCentralHD? I would hope that TW did that negotiation as part of its recent Viacom deal, but you never know.
Does anyone get some pixelation/blocking on TWC's HD PPV channel? I bought the WWE Royal Rumble last night, and the picture was fine most of the time, but parts of it would get pixelated/blocky. I have no problems with any other of the TWC HD programming. I am using a SA 8240HDC box.
