It's funny that WOAC was brought up. I have done a little research on ch 67 and from what I can remember first hand, it was sort of like a Akron/Canton/Cleveland/Youngstown independent. For most of its life up until Paxxon (owners of ch 23) purchased it, up, 67 had a little of everything. Until Paxxson upgraded and moved the signal to near Kent then sold it for ch 23, much of Cleveland could not see the station. The station had some shows that would share with the old fox nineteen WOIO (family matters, andy griffith, and WKRP) to name a few, and shared a few shows with the Youngstown stations as well. But in the early 90's they were a secondary CBS station for Cleveland (they carried CBS late nite when WJW-TV 8 didn't want to). They also for some very odd reason had the whole exclusive Cleveland market rights to reruns to the hogan family. But I always wondered why for one the station was never moved into Youngstown or why when it came to OTA signals Youngstown got short handed. W58AM was intended to be what is now ch 45 an educational signal and ch 45 was intended to be a independent. If I am wrong with any of this, please correct me. As of right now ch 67 does have the new zoo revue on Wednesday mornings which I still don't understand how they could choose that for their E/I requirement. Besides ch 67 could see new life if WOIO keeps up what they are doing and loses the CBS network. I am sure that if CBS had their way they would find another station to carry CBS. WOIO's track record in embarrassing not giving CBS national attention is not helping matters(anchor's stripping, upsetting mayors, low ratings). With the brown's mess I would not be shocked if Randy Learner convinces CBS to find another station after they airied his sister calling 9-11 that was aired last week. Unless E.W.Scripts keeps it as a independent and makes an offical sister station with WEWS, or an affiliate swap takes place, ch 67 will probally be spanish or home shopping. Why didn't Paxxon move ch 67 into Youngstown and then buy 23? If that would of happened paxxon could of been in two markets. I also heard that ch 62 after moving to 35 will be at even lower power and will not even make it to the west side let alone the whole market. When WYFX first signed on they had the pick of all the great shows, but over the past three years they have been losing shows left and right: Sinefeld, The Simpson's M*A*S*H. The Cosby Show, Roseanne, a Different World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Charles in Charge are just some of the shows they did not contuine to air when the rights were up. And out of all of those reruns The Simpson's is the most missed. Why unless another station grabbed them is one show I would find a slot for. But instead they air first news at noon on both WKBN and WYFX, 2 showings of fear factor, and double runs of everything they have left.
