Fort Myers, FL - HDTV - Page 29

With all of the recent news of new HD channels being carried by D*, is there any news of new HD channels that have been, or will be added shortly, by Comcast in the Ft. Myers area? (I'm currenly up north but returning to Ft. Myers in a couple of weeks).

You don't say which area you are in. I am in North Naples, my cable channel lineup is labeled Comcast Bonita Springs Digital Rebuild. There are a few separate channel lineups that correspond to different equipment configurations.

Here is what I have:
78.1 WBBHDT - NBC 549 MHz
78.2 WZVNDT - ABC 549 MHz
78.8 WFTXDT - Fox 549 MHz
88.1 NBA Pass Previews 609 MHz
103.9 ESPN Deportes - Spanish 669MHz
105.37 Music Choices - Jazz 681 MHz
108.8 OnDemand previews 699MHz
115.3 WGCU-HD 741MHz
115.4 WGCU (erratic) 741MHz
115.5 No content currently 741MHz
115.7 WINKDT - CBS 741MHz

I hope this information is useful.

I'm getting ready to buy a plasma and I'm curios which units you guys own that are on basic cable (no converter) and what HD signals you're getting. I know a Qam is a Qam but it seems like different brands vary on how many channels they get.
Thanks

Yeah, D*'s new HD lineup is making it really difficult for me to hang on to my Mpeg2 HDTivo.

I may be upgrading soon.

Anybody know what is going on with NBC's HD channel? It started Friday and is going on still today. Message says "technical difficulties". Just wondering the specifics.

20-1 is in SD also with pillar bars. Looks like the SNF game won't be in HD locally
post #848 of 1109
Not only 20, but Fox36 flipped the wrong switch and broadcast the second quarter of the Bucs game in SD. Have they never heard of a monitor?
well it appears that 20-1 is back in HD. The Today show and Nightly News were being broadcasted in HD.

anyone know if it's possible to receive Tampa Bay WTSP CBS 10 (analog) on rabbit ears in Englewood/Port Charlotte?

Bucs, Fins, & Jags ALL play at 1pm, ALL ON CBS this Sunday and all indications so far point to WINK airing the Dolphins over the Bucs...

It was even posted Monday in the Naples News that they would be showing the Dolphins.

WTSP is one of the hardest for me to get. I live in Sebring, which is 93 miles from their transmitter and I can only get it sometimes at night, never during the day. I point towards FT Myers to get Wink. I'm surprised to see Wink taking the Dolphins over the Bucs, as they usually go the other way.

This is a cool site for checking the games although they seem to be down at the moment.

yep, that site with weekly NFL maps is one of my resources
http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/2007-06-CBS1.html

Comcast's guide info & TitanTV both confirm that WINK plans for Dolphins/Browns.... Fins are usually on CBS, so if they went with Bucs during this conflict it would certainly upset all the Fins fans - plus for the 1 or 2 games this applies for (when the Bucs play a home game vs an AFC opponent), they can just blame the networks & NFL HQ when all the Bucs fans call complaining...

Thankfully the other interconference home game this season is Jags@Bucs and Miami plays at a different time (the London game actually), so this should be the only Bucs game this year that won't be carried OTA to Southwest FL....

well it appears that 20-1 is back in HD.

Ya'll help me here. I'm getting nothing. 20-1 and 20-2 are both just a black screen on my HD DirecTivo. Every other OTA channel pulls up just fine and the satellite channel 20 is working just fine. Life recorded last night in HD on 20-1, so something must have happened overnight. If it is a reception issue, I normally get the "searching for signal" message on the -1 & -2 channels. That is not the case here. The guide and info buttons pull up all the program info for NBC2, but there's no audio and no video.

What is their deal lately?

Peace,

DM

Lately I have been having problems. last night 20-1 came in just fine but a minute before 11pm signal cut out. This morning no 20-1 or 20-2. Kinda of think they might be working on the transmitter. There is no info on this on their website. Real annoying.
Well, prime time is up and running in glorious HD on 20-1. But both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were not. They must be having local equipment issues.

Just bought a new LCD with QAM capabilities. I also own 2 Plasmas with cablecards, and one plasma on setop HD-DVR. I figured I would since this set is only a 37" model QAM would get some reception.

Channel search finds no digital channels, only analog. I'll be damned if I'm going to see my cable bill go over $200/mo for another setop box.

So am I stuck with analog?, and is the QAM hype just that - hype?

You never know with Comcast in SW Florida.

Funny, the other day I yanked the cablecard from a 50' plasma, did a channel search and found 9 QAM channels. Tonight, the new TV can only find analog channels.

What's up w/Comcast in the Naples area as far as QAM over CATV?

You don't say what what make/model TV you have. Make sure you are using the correct coax input. Some of the Sharp LCDs have like 3 inputs and only 1 of them can tune QAM.

If your 50" plasma in the same house tunes the QAM channels without a problem, then methinks your problem is with the TV or wiring (weak signal), not Comcast.
Sanyo DP37647, Single Coax ANT input.

Moved to location where digital is known to work and still the same issue.

Might be the TV, might be Comcast. With our history where we are at the problem is usually with Comcast. We are in a zone where Comcast bought a Time Warner system and has been struggling to changeover for almost 2 years now. They finally got VOD working last month, channel lineup is due to change, have beeen told all Scientific Atlanta setops have to be exchanged (we already did that) - If that gives you a glimpse of some issues - oh, and hi speed internet has been crazy too.

We wish it was still Time Warner - at least everything worked and we didn't get the "changeover, please be patient" apology.

It could be the TV... But perhaps someone else in this area has had QAM loss recently?

Looking at the manual ...

http://www.sanyotv.com/archived%...)%200261--.pdf

Something seems a little odd about that set. Look at page 13, they refer to a Digital Cable Channel search that is different from the "All Channel Search"
Apparently the All Channel Search only picks up ANALOG cable and DIGITAL over the air, but NOT digital cable (QAM). Weird.
Me thinks something is weird about this set too - however the info I've found specifically says it gets unscrambled digital QAM channels. Its all over the box too - about being digital cable compatible. I expect it will need a setop box for the big bang.

The remote lacks a "." period button too - so if it ever does detect a QAM station I guess it would remap to a whole number.

The PDF you reference is for the 32", but it operates the same as the 37".

Once the main channel scan detects no digital channels the options in the menu for digital are disabled.

Again, I expect my call to Comcast will result in my bill going up.

After a tech support call to Sanyo, I now can get QAM unscrambled digital channels.

The method to switch between basic cable and the QAM channels is odd, to say the least, and is not explained in the documention - but the bottom line is that it works and gives my son a few channels w/o paying the CATV company another $.

With the QAM tuner, he now gets;
ABC HD
NBC HD
CBS HD
PBS HD
TNT HD
FOX HD
Discovery HD Theatre
Versus HD
HGTV HD
Food Network HD
and a few more...

A QAM tuner built into a TV is a good thing, hopefully the implementation of the set you might buy will be better than this Sanyo we just purchased.

Are all of you guys with QAMs getting all of these channels.

I was watching Journeyman on 20-1 tonight OTA and the video was gone but the sound was there just fine. All other channels cam in fine including 20-2. I'm wondering if anybody else had this problem or is this just something on my end? I have a Vip 622 from Dish with a ss-2000 on the OTA input.
What channel are you getting Discovery HD Theater on? I remember getting it during September on 89-2, but then it went away and I haven't seen it since. That was my favorite channel too

Hi All-
Caught Wink Evening News about 7:20 PM Saturday announcing "First Southwest Florida Station to Broadcast News in HD". Looked pretty good- but lots of 4X3 shots from the field.

Yep, saw that too. Looked very nice. And technically they are correct. ABC7 is only EDTV.

I can no longer find Discovery HD, or TNT HD on my QAM tuner. I do however have the local CW in HD at 72-1. The only non-"local" channel that I can find on my QAM tuner is Versus at 113-1.

Have all the other channel been scrambled?
