For several weeks I have been able to get a WEVV-DT picture and sound on only one of my ATSC tuners. A DirecTV HR10-250.

WEVV-DT appears to have corrected their PSIP problem. I can now get WEVV-DT on all of my ATSC tuners.

Has anybody heard lately from WEVV about when they might get the HD going? After bugging them so much about the audio problem a few weeks ago I am kind of embarrassed to ask them.

I saw that DISH will be adding ESPN 2 HD and some VOOM stations in January and that they will be transmitted in MPEG 4. Does anybody know if an 811 HD receiver will be able to pick up the MPEG 4 format? Thanks. link to DISH news http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=49145

Well, I finally sprung for a OTA Receiver. Picked up the Sylvania 6900DTE from Amazon. It will arrive next week sometime.

I currently receive a good signal from all of Evansville's TV digital transmitters at my home on the east side of Owensboro using an external antenna. However I have had a problem with WEHT-DT (transmit channel 59) for several months with the picture and sound dropping out every few seconds. The signal would be OK for a few days and then the dropouts would start and last for days. I traced the problem to my wireless WI-FI network router. I had left the router channel selection on automatic. When the router picked transmit channels 1, 2 or 3, the problem would appear. Channel 1 appears to have the most serious problem with channels 2 and 3 interferring less. My solution was to lock the router on one of the high channels. I chose channel 11. I no longer have the problem.

Anybody have any news on WEVV HD? I bought my HDTV a couple of weeks ago, and I've noticed that several CBS shows have been "available in HD" with only a SD signal from WEVV-DT. I just looked up the listings on TitanTV and it shows Y&R in HD today (yay for my wife!), and hopefully it's true.
Some of the other message board members will be able to give you a more detailed answer than me -- but essentially WEVV has no HD equipment yet -- supposedly they will be purchasing and installing this year. So even 'tho shows like CSI are available in HD -- they are not available in Evansville. Same scenario for Fox and WB.

It would be nice to have HD in place for March Madness!

Thanks...that was what I was afraid of.

Anyway, TitanTV lied about the HD content...I might have known.

This is a VERY interesting observation. If you havn't already done so, you might want to post this in the general OTA reception area.

Here is a good summary of the recent Charlie Egran chat concerning HD changes.

I purchased an HDTV Tuner. Works great. But I live in an apartment and have a simple Zenith antenna. I have to constantly move it and point it in the correct direction. Any advice or is there a different antenna?

My original problem involved a D-Link DI-624 WI-FI router interfering with WEHT-DT when the router was set the channels 1-3. I have since tried two other WI-FI routers that don't cause interference. One is a U.S.Robotics MAX G and the other is a LinkSys WRT54G. Both were fine on all transmit channels. My D-Link unit may be defective but it works fine otherwise.

If you're within 30 miles of the transmitters (I'm in Owensboro, so I'm right the edge of that distance), you might try a Terk HDTVi set-top antenna. The only time I have to mess with moving it around is when the weather's bad, and then only occasionally for WEHT. I've even put a one-to-two splitter on it and run it alone for both my digital and analog reception. Mine cost $40, but you may be able to find it cheaper. Worth every penny, far as I'm concerned.

BRYAN, also be advised that WTVW FOX7 is currently running at low power and is hard to receive ouside the E'ville metro area.

FWIW: Friend of mine just got an HD set today and was told that WEVV will be on HD in time for March Madness. I called the station and was told that they are working on HD but did not have a timetable for when it will actually be publicly availavle. WTVW supposedly is late this summer. Don't know how long after they are on before Insight Cable will pick them up.

On Insight, been told that ESPN2 HD is close, possible within the next few weeks. Not sure about my source (newspaper person) but had a job interview with Insight a couple of weeks ago and when I asked, was told that maybe, but it was expensive and they did not think it would be on the HD package but on the extra channel cost group.

Hope that the salesman was right about WEVV but I just don't think it will make the cable group by mid March. I guess I am just to skeptical.

Just my $.02 USD

I have two great connections at both stations I cna say WTVW FOX will be this year they are commited to have HD this summer

On WEVV they have NO idea when they just dont know. Sorry

On INSIGHT I came real real close to going back to INSIGHT cable from DISh I was told by a marketing person with Insight EVV office they are to ad espn 2 also TNT HD by or IN FEB?

I honestly will believe when it happens I was promised for over 12 months yes we are adding HD and it never ever happend.

I backed out of switching for now will wait to see IF espn2 and TNT are added, I do fell when FOX and CBS go hd they would be added fairly fast.
For me I may just wait as I would have them both the day they go cause I get them OTA with dish.

Trido

I hear any more news I sure will post
for now IMO FOX & will be hd this year on WEVV CBS I just dont know
I remeber the newspaper saying WEVV said like last AUG and here it is 2006 and still no HD

HD Newbie.....looking for an update on the Evansville market.

I'm in Owensboro, and receive 9, 14 in HD, as well as the digital signals from 31 and 44, albeit only in SD. I have an antenna mounted in the attic, and get a pretty decent analog signal from 7 and 25, but nothing digital. Should I be? Will a preamp help?

Are any other Evansville stations besides 9 and 14 broadcasting in HD?

TIA

Yes there is channel 25, but I haven't been able to receive it in quit some time, don't know why nothing has changed here. Channel 44 also is in HD so they say it is the worst channel I can get it is in 480P format that's not HD but my receiver says HD... I don't think so. I too have an attic antenna that works great for 14. Directv offers locals in some areas but not yet in evansville. Keep me posted
post #142 of 750
I am starting to have second thoughts on Directv they keep changing equipment requirements. Changing dishes and receivers. That's getting expensive!
trido,

Did you say WEHT has an HD channel or just a digital channel ? What channel ? (25.1 ?)
It is HD and is on 25.1 I haven't received a signal in 6 months or longer
post #145 of 750
JBKing: welcome to the group!
WEHT digital channel shows up as 25.1, actual RF channel is #59 and to the best of my knowledge they are only running about 60 kw of power, compared to 250 to 500 kw for WFIE and WEVV. So their coverage area is smaller than the others.
From Owensboro, I would think you could pick up KET's HD signal, on 31.4. Note they do not consider the HD their primary channel!
You have probably gathered from the rest of this thread that WEVV is apparently having financial problems, and none of us here, at least, have been able to get any info as to when they might start an HD signal.
WTVW, FOX7, has a low power SD digital signal on RF channel #28. It is only occasionally receivable here in Morganfield, so I'm not surprised you're not getting it either. They have said in the media that they plan a high-power HD signal "sometime this year".
RMP, thanks for the welcome.

Here's a quote from the Evansville Courier on 3/26/06 concerning WEVV.

Quote:

Nexstar Broadcasting Group, the parent company of WTVW-FOX7, appears to be eyeing Evansville's CBS affiliate for a possible merger or other operating agreement.

No agreement has been announced between WTVW and WEVV-CBS44, but Nexstar officials have been in Evansville to explore a deal and to tour WEVV, employees from the stations have reported.

Sorry, as a newbie, I can't post the link.

Yes, I can receive 31 digital, but just looking for something besides PBS.

Thanks for the info, everyone.
Don't hold your breath for HD on either of these channels. They have been using the "we're working on it now" for so long that they must be using a little old blue haired lady with a walker to do the work.

If I see it before the year 2008 I will be shocked.
I know others have reported issues receiving 25 HD here in Owensboro but I have been receiving their signal solid for the last few years.
I'm in Owensboro, too (out near the Airpark for those familiar with the area), and I can get Channel 25 "OK," but not as well as, say, either 9, 14 or 44. Channel 31, by virtue of its tower being closest to town, is naturally the strongest.

This past fall, I was able to briefly receive Channel 7, but now my TV just goes past it when I search for new channels. Ditto with Channel 19's digital feed, which is, like 7's, very weak (19's is out of Madisonville -- actually around Hanson, IIRC). I'm close, but close doesn't count in digital TV! It truly is "all or nothing at all."
