ASAIK, from FCC website, WTVW is only running about 1.5 KW of power, versus 50 Kw for KET, about 60 KW for WEHT, 250 KW for WFIE and 500 KW for WEVV (these numbers approximate). KET, WEHT, WFIE and WEVV are at their full authorized power. Whenever WTVW gets their act together, they are supposed to increase to 1000 KW. WAZE is now only running about 1KW from Hanson, as you noted. Their FCC info is a little confusing, as they appartently have two tower sites authorized, but I believe I remember reading somewhere that they plan a new site south of Boonville, near the WTVW and WNIN sites. They also plan 1000 KW.

Greetings all,
If anyone is interested in getting one of the US Digital stbs that Walmart sells, they are evidently on clearance at many stores. Two stores in Illinois have them for $90 at one (Lawrenceville) and $102 at the other (Olney) store. Retailed for $198 new.
Just fyi...

Is it difficult to pick up HD stations OTA in Newburgh? I'll be moving there this summer and will be about 11 miles from the broadcast towers. Do you think the silver sensor would work for me?

I still can't get ABC 25 in HD on 25.1 I was getting it now it's gone. Ihave an attic attenna that hasn't been moved Ican get NBC 14.1 perfect with a strong signal. FRUSTRATED
post #161 of 750
So I can't watch CBS in HD?
Night & day difference between attic and outside. I tried several attic locations and never could get a decent signal. Mounted outside with an 5 foot mast barley above roof works good except FOX still flakey during the summer months.
Another report that WTVW will be up by late summer.....

Quote:

At this time we are operation at low power digital. That would explain why you can't receive our digital signal. We have begun the high power build out this spring and hope to be up and full power by late summer. And we will be full HD when we are finished
post #164 of 750
I think that's what they said LAST spring.
WEVV has been full power digital for awhile now, just not HD.
Well, all that fog we had last night sure brought in some major new channels here in O'boro, at least on my trusty Sanyo ... I haven't seen a Nashville station locally since the early '80s when Grandpa still had his HUGE rooftop antenna that let us watch Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Nashville, Louisville and Cincinnati ... I think we even got WTTV out of Bloomington a few times. But last night I got a whole slew of 'em (plus a handful from Bowling Green):

2-1 WKRN-DT ABC
2-2 WKRN "Nashville WX Channel"

5-1 WTVF-DT CBS

13-1 WBKO-DT ABC (Bowling Green) -- comes in every so often

17-1 WZTV-HD FOX
17-2 WZTV-SD FOX

24-1 through 24-4 WKYU (Bowling Green)

28-1 through 28-4 ???

30-1 WUXP UPN

40-1 WNKY NBC (Bowling Green)

50-1 through 50-3 ???

I didn't count the multiple KET stations I pulled in on the list, but I managed to get the Elizabethtown and Bowling Green feeds with no trouble.

And all of this is still with the simple Terk HDTVi set-top antenna. I'm just curious what I'd get with a rooftop unit ...

Sorry, I meant to say WTVW, I corrected my original post.

Yes, last night was great! I happened to add a preamp earlier that day anyway, but with my attic-mounted antenna, I was picking up UPN 30 from Nashville, Fox 41 from Louisville, 2 from Nashville, some PBS from 16 and 20 I believe, 8 from somewhere unknown, even picked up 7 digital although it's just SD.

Still didn't get WEHT 25, though.
PBS 16 is WUSI in Olney, IL. Not sure on 20 ... could be WFYI out of Indy, that springs to mind.

Was your 8 a CBS station or a PBS? If it was PBS, that's WSIU -- same as 16, it's just that 16 is their translator (note different call letters).

I may have to invest in a preamp myself and see what that does for my little Terk ...
8 was SWIU.

I bought preamp at Radio Shack, it was 59.95 I believe. I hear there are better preamps but I thought one at RatShack would be easier to return if it didn't help. Channel Master has some better models supposedly, but I don't think you can buy locally, probably only through mail order. Does your Terk have a preamp already built in?

I picked up some more stations last night, 6 and 8 for brief periods, 16, 7 digital, but still not 25 digital. I'm going to have to get back up in the attic when I can and reorient the antenna.
I was finally able to get in the attic and do some rearranging.

From the east side of Owensboro, I am now picking up:
  • 7 FOX - SD digital signal sometimes at night, but it's still at low power, no HD available yet
  • 9 PBS - HD with a strong signal, especially at night
  • 14 NBC - HD and good strong signal most of the time
  • 19 WB - analog only, but fairly clear
  • 25 ABC - good analog, finally picked up HD signal today, but a little weak. Should be better at night!
  • 31 KET (PBS) - HD, fairly strong signal, especially at night
  • 35 KET (PBS) - ditto
  • 44 CBS - good strong digital signal, but still SD only

Probably will still order a CM 7777 to help out on some of those weak signals, especially during the day. Plus, I like seeing what I can pick up at night after storm clouds clear out.

Anybody heard anything new on HD plans for 7 or 44?

What about 19? Is anyone a receiving digital signal in Owensboro, and is it SD or HD?
JBKing, can you not pick up anything from Louisville?
On rare ocassions, I can get 41 Fox, but analog only. I picked up 6 HD from Paducah over the weekend.

I watched a very interesting "Shively & Shoulders" episode tonight on WNIN. For those who didn't see it, Randy Moore of Fox 7, David James of WFIE and Brad Byrd of WEHT were on, talking about themselves, their stations, etc. etc. Lots of reminiscences of their years at their respective stations, Marcia Yockey, and so on.

Les Shively happened to mention that one of our local affiliates (never mentioned by name, but it's WEVV, of course) no longer has local news. Randy Moore very quickly replied, "That might change soon." And he didn't just say it once, he said it again later in the show. It's no big secret that Nexstar has been considering the purchase of WEVV, but this is the first I've heard it suggested so positively.

Randy did seem more than a little enthusiastic about the possibility of a WTVW-produced newscast on WEVV, and why shouldn't he be? CBS has a lot of hit shows on a lot of nights versus NBC and ABC, and it's been said that the channel most people watch in the 9:00 hour is the channel they'll keep it on for the late news. That would potentially put Randy and Jackie Monroe (if that is the anchor team they'd use in a WEVV newscast, and I don't see why they would switch) in front of a LOT of people, perhaps even more than they get now at 9:00.

Trido -- can you add to this???

ABout a month ago my contact at WEVV came in the store he flaty said no on the Nexstar deal.( I think WEVV just tells employees no)
As soon as he left I call my FOX 7 contact he said as far as he knew still a go.

I can say and surprised MOORE didnt mention it but in July Fox 7 is going to a ONE HOUR news at 6 PM.

On HD still a go at FOX for summer not clear on WEVV.

Not much news sorry.

From SAt Evansville Courier.

WEVV-CBS44 files bankruptcy

Day-to-day operations won't be affected
Duly noted on the WEVV bankruptcy. I'm not surprised, either. I don't think ComCorp is really interested in this market, and they haven't been for a good while, so they've just sort of let things go down the tubes. You are most likely correct in that it probably won't be good for those of us waiting for CBS HD.

Part of me wonders if Nexstar might be watching these developments closely, with an eye toward picking up some of the ComCorp properties "on the cheap" as that often happens in these bankruptcies. If that happens (and I won't be at all surprised if it does), look for things to normalize at 44 pretty quickly. It might actually start looking like a local TV station again!

Regarding Fox 7: I didn't hear Randy say that about the 6PM newscast, but he may have done so when I had to mute the TV to take a couple of phone calls during "S&S". I think it's a good idea and it should be interesting to see what the other stations do in response. I doubt WFIE would go to an hour news at 6, because "Wheel of Fortune" is so popular, but I could see WEHT doing it once "Millionaire" runs its course. I'm sure time will tell.
