OK, that's a bit confusing. I don't care where the locals are from as long as they're HD. Can I get HD network channels in the Baton Rouge area without the Baton Rouge affiliates' permission?

If you are in baton rouge, you ought to be able to get the big 4 networks hd thru an antenna.Do you have an antenna setup?

I live all the way in hammond and i get nbc33, abc2, fox44, cw21(not hd) no problem with a cm4228 and a cm7777 about 12 feet off of the ground.
The only channels i dont get reliably are cbs9, and the pbs 27's, but if you are in baton rouge you ought to get all of them with an outside antenna

I'm not in Baton Rouge, I'm in New Roads. I haven't yet gotten an antenna, but I was just curious about the satellite option because that would be a lot easier.

The antenna method would work better and works. But you could also "move" to fill in the gap if you can't get CBS-HD, but you should be able to get it there as folks in Clinton get it easily with a CM4228.

The "moving" is the part I don't understand. Should I just change my address to NYC to get their channels?

Yes, but you need to make sure those channels are available in the area you physically are.

1) They WILL have Baton Rouge HD locals in a year (maybe 2).

2) The launch of new sat's will mean will be able to have over 150 National HD channels. These will start coming online next year. As tempting as Dish is, most of the HD lineup includes channels that I never watch or don't exist in SD. In other words, it is nice to look at but I would rather watch ESPNU SD than "Treasure HD."

And both Dish and D* down rez their HD. I think D* probably does it a bit more now because of the lack of bandwidth, but again all that *should* change when the new birds get into orbit.

Another man's garbage is another man's Treasure HD.

I hear folks talking about BR HD locals on DirecTV, saying they can't wait. I always ask "Why wait? You can get them now with a simple antenna setup."

I usually get a "You're kidding right?!"

A week later they are watching their locals in HD.

Thursday nite nbc33 it is 7.35 pm and still no hd!!!!
Tried calling the station but that is a joke. Everyone's mailbox is full, or the machine hangs up on you.
Will try emailing the manager and tell him this is why everyone i know is "moving"
and not watching their station. Should make their advertisers happy

Unless it is nbc33 and fox44 who forget to "flip the switch" constantly

people with directv and the hr20 series hd dvr. I dont know how many of you have this problem, the issue that you can only select a primary and a secondary market for OTA channels. I know many of you can probably receive baton rouge, lafayette, new orleans, and maybe even alexandria channels ota. the area that is not selected cannot be watched. In my case I cannot receive lafayette, baton rouge, and alexandria all at the same time, I have to choose between alexandria or baton rouge as my secondary market. i have contacted directv and they say they are working on it but if we email this address chase.carey@directv.com and complain enough they will get it done. all they would have to do is include all stations within 75-100 miles of a certain zipcode and that would solve the problem. I ask for your assistance on pushing directv to make the hd dvr a better product for us so that we can enjoy the ota hd channels without having to go thru the long setup to switch markets. I like knowing that I have a backup channel just in case my local station goes down. I hope you feel the same way.

They've been good lately. But that's what west coast locals are for
post #1365 of 2942
Its rediculous. Because when I get home at night and try watching it on the DVR, its to late to change channels. this flipping the switch thing is getting aggravating

Sounds like the folks in Beaumont right now with one of their HD locals going off air a lot. They're using the HD Houston locals on satellite for the time being.

Anyone been having signal problems with 44-1? I have been having a low signal stregth with very bad pixelation for a week now. Just trying to figure out if its the channel or D*'s HR20 again since the last update.

Still the strongest signal here. Pegs the meter at 100% on the TV's tuner and the HTPC tuner. Good clean signal with no visible errors.

What's really bad about 33WVLA forgetting to "flip the switch" is that people in places like Marksville have had to switch antennas to BR because of 5 KALB Alexandria ruining their NBC HD signal by adding CBS HD on 5.2 and destroying the PQ of both.

You think 33 is bad about flipping the switch? Last month all Friday, Saturday and Sunday the NBC HD was not shown on 5 including NEW episodes of Leno, Conan, SNL, Sunday Night Football, Today show, Nightly News and every sporting event they air on weekends. I mean it wasn't 16X9 aspect ratio but 4X3--black sidebars and all.

5KALB did the same thing last Saturday--all day and night-prime time too, no NBC HD. A few weeks ago no Notre Dame Saturday football in HD.
Twice in the past week 5 KALB has not aired the NBC Nightly news in HD. Days after NBC moved into brand new studios they are trying to show off.

Even the scoreboard during football games that never moves on both 5.1 and 5.2 is so pixelated that it's blurry on both their "HD" stations.

Like someone else said, it's really like a lot of Louisiana engineers and TV station employees don't know anything about DTV or HD or SD and they think no one is watching or trying to view LSU football in HD.

Part of the problem at 5KALB is that it drives them crazy when another station gets to carry an LSU sporting event and NBC rarely carries LSU sporting events except maybe once a year for Track and Field when you see LSU competitors.

The good news is that Media General announced this week that 5KALB is one of the stations they are selling/unloading.
Maybe new management can be convinced to drop this whole 5.2 CBS Alexandria partial HD concept that destroys the NBC HD.

We don't need affiliates at war with their networks. I also urge viewers in Louisiana to complain to NBC and other networks directly as well about your local HD situation.

I'm concerned Louisiana TV stations will get a bad example from 9WAFB and 5KALB's decisions regarding their DTV signals.

Oh yeah, great weather for getting to work at tower sites. Hello 3 KATC?

:

There should be someone in engineering whose job is to watch a hd tv in the studio. If the show is in hd, and it is in sd on his tv, he needs to go into the room and " flip the switch". or tell the person to wake up.
Last week with nbc33 Br, when you call of course you get answering machines, one of the guys machines message says something to the effect
that " if you are calling about not receiving the correct signal, he has no control over that, contact engineering at this #", then when you call that #, that mailbox is full. .He must get a lot of calls if his outgoing message says dont contact me about signal/quality issues

I did a scan on my Samsung 4061 thursday and now i've lost 100-1 WBRZ and 100-4 CBS. I try to enter those channels on the remote and nothing, it stays on the channel I was already watching. Anyone else lose these channels on the QAM tuner? Im getting ready to watch the LSU game and I cant get CBS in HD!! I also have a cheap set or RCA rabbit ears that I also use to catch the HD version of CBS, but only get the sd version now. What the hell is going on?
ok, did another scan today and I can get 100-1 and 100-4 but no sound or picture.
Crappy WAFB CBS HD is coming in fine via QAM on 100 carrier and via OTA on RF 46 mapped to 9-1.

Inter who's?

They pulled that one out of their.... jeez. The Tigers played VERY poorly tonight. They didn't deserve to win that game.

Not sure what your issue was with WAFB, we had it running for an hour or so before the game with no issues.

Hey guys,
I have a Radioshack 15-1892 OTA antenna. It works okay except that I have to tune it for some channels (while meanwhile losing others). In other words, I can see NBC, pbs, and ABC on one setting, and CBS and Fox on the other (and truthfully, CBS never really comes in consistently). I know it has to do with the location of the towers and the position of the antenna but I was hoping maybe you guys have some tips about how to place the OTA antenna to increase reception. Thanks!

Is that the alien disc looking antenna? That antenna is garbage.

What's your location?

Baton Rouge, near City Park. Yes, it is the alien looking one. I'm smack in the middle of the broadcasting towers. So, I guess I need an omni-directional one. I just don't want to have to tune it whenever the game comes on. It makes switching between games impossible.

Not sure where City Park is, been hear 8+ years and never heard anyone say City Park.

How much room do you have to mount an antenna? Attic? Outdoors?

Depending on your location, I'd suggest a Silver Sensor or a CM4221 in the attic.

You won't have switch or retune anything once you get things setup correctly.

Sure you have, it's near City Park golf course, by the university lakes. Anyway, I took back the antenna I had to Radioshack. Even though it was a few months ago that I bought it, I explained the situation and they let me switch it out with an outdoor omnidirectional model that it working really well.
