WAFB has been fine once I added the VHF antenna. It was only a problem when I had only had the CM4228. Just always kinda rubs me wrong when I put a CM4228 at buddy's house and his picks up KPLC(RF 8) just fine and I'm closer to WAFB than he is to KPLC. And this was before KPLC upgraded their power. WAFB has always been a thorn in my side for any OTA installs I've done for people.

And the fix for WVLA at my house was raising the antenna about a foot and shifting more towards Lafayette. I was able to find a happy medium and I now get WVLA at 90%. WGMB still knocks the doors down at 100% so I'm good now.

Nice to see WVLA rocking 2.0 audio for the SuperBowl. Shows up as Dolby PL II on my receiver when other OTA stations show up as 5.1 Dolby D. Oh well... WDSU is showing it in 5.1. You can definitely hear the difference in the surrounds when switching between the two.

AFAIK, WVLA has never supported anything beyond 2.0.

What a shame in 2012.

All day today (Friday) nbc33 kept running a commercial saying "today on Ellen, Steven Tyler". Well i record it and, no Steven Tyler. The guide info didn't say it , but hey the commercial that kept playing all day said it so he should be on. I just checked the website and evidently he was on MAR 30th. That's right nbc33 is running commercials from a week ago! Can someone over there please get their act together. It is bad enough they put the nbc33HD logo on sd shows but come on!

Hey Dennis.
That's a real slick operation, over there.

Since you woke me up I thought I'd update you that we have ordered surround equipment and hope to have WVLA broadcasting in surround before the Olympics debut.

Evidently it isnt working because right now Jimmy Fallon is in 2.0 on WVLA but it is in 5.1 on WDSU New Orleans.

Technical difficulties routing the NBC 5.1 surround audio.
Working on it :-)

I see 33.2 switched back to the weather format/ news repeats. Dish network actually has the new correct guide data.

Speaking of.....does anyone have any idea WTF happened to OTA 33.2 and cable channel 133 "THISTV"?? Now there's yet another 24 HOUR A DAY frickin' weather feed!! ALL programming gone! And the Baton Rouge THISTV website "still thinks" regular programming is going on! If WVLA somehow "needs" their OWN 24hr a day weather channel (and for the LIFE of me I cannot imagine WHY), then why the hell can't they use an UNUSED CHANNEL instead of destroying an EXISTING channel!?!? mad.gif
post #2928 of 2942
Anybody getting audio on 33.2? When it was on the weather radar i just figured there wasnt any music playing. But now the news replay is on and still no audio. Anybody? Thanks
post #2929 of 2942
I still like to know what's going on with the programming. Doesn't anyone know, or is anyone even curious? ^ ^ Post 2927.

As for the missing audio; there's none on cable 133 either. Doesn't surprise me, they hijack and destroy a channel and can't even get it right.

Noob here.
What's the best antenna for BR?
What's the cheapest adequate antenna?
Thanks.

I live in hammond so i am some 40 -50 miles away. Digiblur, i believe, lives closer and he could tell you better. Send him a pm and he should be able to help. Go up a few posts and you will see his info

Depends on where you are at... WAFB is pain to get in some places with their low power signal.
I'm near the Airline/I-12 intersection.
Got WAFB fine. RCA ANT751 mounted on the chimney pointed roughly SW. Can't seem to get LPB, though. Any idea why?
Thanks.
If you can get WAFB with that thing then LPB should be easy. What kind of signals are you seeing on the others?

Cheap Scepter TV won't tune LPB. I can get WAFB just fine and others, just not LPB 27. I tried the ClearStream 2 with the same result.

Bet that TV doesn't like the opentv streams on that channel.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more people here in the forum asking questions on how to pick up WAFB due to the stand off with Cox Communications. One of the few times I'm giving Cox a pat on the back for doing this! I'm always glad to see them stand up to the companies raising others rates.

It is ironic though that WAFB is by far the hardest OTA station to pick up in the Baton Rouge area. Such a shame they have stayed on VHF channel 9 at such a lower power compared to other stations. I know it's always been a task for me in my OTA setups to get their station reliably. They should take a page out of the WVUE DTV transition book and learn from it wink.gif
post #2940 of 2942
Im surprised in baton rouge ota it is that hard. I'm in Hammond and thru my dish722 i get them reliably at 75% signal. In bad weather there are some droputs, but it is solid most of the time, but i rarely watch that channel.
