CV vs NY Jets football stadium
CV vs Verizon FiOS deployment.

Wonder who's next?

You forgot HDNet as well. LOL I know its pathetic. The only company that comes to mind that has channels added very quickly is anything associated with Viacom, atleast from what Viacom channels they carry and how quickly they've been added to the lineup.

does the 8300 come in silver or black? Is that the best model, or is there a 8400 or something like that?

If I come back to CV, I want to get the best stuff up front. I'm an Optimum Online sub, so maybe they want to work with me. Who knows....

and I agree - I can't see D* improving PQ. The NBA Finals last night looked horrible.

They must believe that the majority of people don't care, and to satisfy the 5-10% of people who really want the best pq is not in their best interests...

8300HD is silver. I was an OOL customer when I came back and they offered me a sweet deal when I left DirecTV. I'm saving $10 month and I get more channels (IO Silver with Cablevision vs Total Choice with DirecTV). They also paid for my early cancellation with DirecTV which was very nice

I figured, if DirecTV gets their act together with better HD PQ and better programming, it doesn't cost me anything to come back

I hate playing the waiting game with TV providers when there is one provider offering the services that I need (Good HD PQ and programming as well as a leased DVR).

Did Cablevision fix the 8300HD playback "bug" (the one where if you are watching a show that is currently recording, it dumps you out at the conclusion of the recording)???

I could swear that this morning I had started a recording for my daughter...about 15-20 minutes later she started watching the show from the beginning while it was still recording the remainder of the show, and when the "live" show was done and the 8300 stopped recording, nothing happened; i.e., it didn't kick her out of the show forcing me to restart the playback and hunt for the point in the file she was at...if they did, I'm a happy man!

If not, I need to retake whatever meds I was on this morning

I got a brand new 8300 when I was installed last week.
The "Bug" happened to my wife last night while she was watching Six Feet Under.
She started watching it about 15 minutes delayed and at 10:00 it jumped to the end. It was a Pain to restart and FF to the point it was at, Our HD-Tivo Never did that!!

P.S. Any one else with BX CV unhappy that they dont carry FX !!!
Im now leaning towards keeping D*
I Hope they make that HD announcement soon!!!!

I just checked and there are a more than a Few decent channels that BX CV doesnt carry, BUT D* does...

BBCA
ESPCLassic
FOOD
FX .. Grrrr..
Hallmark
Oxygen
Sundance
TCM
Trio (not on D*)

Half of these I couldnt care less about BUT what I do not understand
is WHY Westchester CV (only 2 blocks away) has FOOD and FX available
WHY Cant I get it here in the Northern Bronx ?? I dont understand!!!

I am Leaning more and More towards D* and you Cant even Begin to compare this 8300 to a HD-Tivo!! The HD-Tivo is in a league of its own!!!

I don't know what you were looking at but i'm in the bronx and the only channels on that list we don't have is BBC America,FX and Trio. You might not of been looking at the digital channel listing. THe only channel I care about on that list is FX and just like you i cannot understand why cv carries FX every where except in the Bronx and Brooklyn. They do the same thing with the Speed CHannel, soapnet and movieplex. Its crazy that the top package cost the same in LI as it does in NYC but if your in the bronx or brooklyn you get 3-4 less channels (FX,Soapnet,Speed) and in some cases The GOlf network. Only withing the last year did they finally add HGTV and the Food network in NYC when it was available on most of there other systems. I never understand why the treat NYC like its there ugly step daugter, especially when close to 1mil of there customers are there between the bronx and brooklyn.

The kick out to live only happens if the recording is pre scheduled. It sounds like you started recording it from the live airing, in which case you are watching from the buffer and will not get kicked out. FYI a new firmware version for the DVR is scheduled to be pushed by the end of the month that will fix the kick out to live, add a start from beginning option for recordings in progress, and add a 4th FF and REW speed.

Yes, I started the recording while watching it live; I guess I thought that once I indicated I wanted to record it that I was no longer watching it from the buffer. Is the buffer on the hard drive or in some volatile memory?

That is great to hear that the new firmware/software will address some of the complaints that people have had.

I'm not really sure but it only holds one hour of programing and resets once you change channels. I remember when I once started recording a sporting event during the live airing and then went out for a couple of hours. I was only able to go back one hour earlier then the live point, but once the recording stopped the entire event was available to watch.

I was at a neighbor's house last night watching the Yankees and the NBA on their 56" sony hdtv through cablevision. wow!! now I'm really jonesing for a hdtv. I wish those sammy 1080p's would come out soon to drive down the price of the 720p's.
I went home and watched the rest of the yankee game on my 35" tv, and boy, it felt like I was watching from a 13" screen.
Wilt, the Cablevision EVP, just posted over on the Yahoo forum that the DVR firmware update will start to be pushed to us next week. The kick out to live bug will soon be exterminated!

You can't. One costs $1k How many months does it take for the leased 8300 to reach $1k ?

The software allocates x amount of space (on this case 1hr of programming) for buffering in the hard drive.

Actually you can get it now for around $550 plus If you call the customer retention department they will give you a $250 credit to offset the price, plus some free programming. That said you can now get a HD-Tivo for around $300 total

Have you ever checked out a game in HD projected to 90"? It's a thing of beauty and front projectors cost much less than the regular TVs. Food for thought.
90" ??

The wife is giving me grief on 50", and I'm pushing for 56". The only reason she's buying into this is that she sees an opportunity to get some new furniture in the room!!!

looking at the D* threads, it looks like they may be coming out with their new HD offer in August. I'll wait to see what that looks like, but they better be matching the cable offer and pq, or I'll go straight to cable...

$300 for a piece of equipment that is going to be obsolete by its own provider?
Thanks but no thanks
So, it's been a couple of more weeks, I'll try again.

Anyone here have a new Sharp Aquos (LCxxD5U or LCxxD7u) with the builtin TV Guide (TVGOS) working with a Cablevision cablecard?

Anyone? A couple of posts in another AVS forum claim this is a known issue related to Cablevision's conversion to digital based distribution of analog broadcast channels (where the TVGOS info is carried) and won't be resolved until some agreement is reached between Cablevision and Gemstar (the TVGOS provider) on how to resolve this.

I'll broaden the question, anyone with any TV with builtin TVGOS have a fully working guide with a cablecard from Cablevision?

Actually its $300 for a piece of equipment that cost nearly $1k a year ago THAT WILL be swapped to the New Mpeg-4 version when available for FREE
post #267 of 8655
Anybody with the LG 3410a able to tune in the Music Choice channels?

I had been under the impression that they are encrypted, but after doing a scan with the 4200a, I found out that they are in-the-clear.

The 3410a shows a good signal strength for the channels, but it doesn't lock in.

I was happy to see that the digital versions of the local channels are now available. CBS is on 80-2, NBC on 80-4, UPN on 80-9, etc. There are also some on 83. How long have they been available?

Still a lame deal if you ask me.

I just ordered a HD Cable Card for my Panny 42px50U plasma. Does anyone have any insight/experience using the Cablevision HD Cable card? Thanks.

You proved my point. A year ago $1k - now (after some haggle) $300. What's the right price for such equipment and why do I have to pay large $$ upfront. Offer the ability to lease the damn equipment so customers can appreciate how good TIVO is. Don't get me wrong, I choose HD TIVO over 8300 in a hearbeat but I know to spend my money, buying a technology which I have no control of (HD TIVO depends greatly on DirecTV) makes no sense.
