That does not make sense, they just realligned all the regional sports channels to be next to each other? What system are you on?

I think when I heard Michael Kay mention the move during a pre-season game, it was only Time Warner systems that were making the change.

Yep, nothing to do with CV, its simply a Time Warner Cable channel number being moved around.

I'll believe it when I see it. And I also wonder what the PQ will be like.

If anyone was watching the Rangers/Devils game last night on MSG, you probably noticed that the game was not in HD and had the MSG bars on the side. A quick switch to MSG+ and the game was in HD. Sometime during the midpoint of the first period, MSG suddenly appeared in HD. So now the question... I understand that this was a Devils home game so I would expect it to be in HD on MSG+ but what happened with the beginning of the game on MSG? I wonder who controls that??? MSG or Cablevision?

MSG and Cablevision are one in the same, so someone screwed up here. Local games like that are always in HD on both MSG and FSNY (MSG+). Someone made a mistake.

Yeah and I suffered through the NJD announcers since I never bothered to switch back to MSG!

Suffered? Doc Emrick is the best in the business.
He may be regarded as the best...but, when you're a Ranger fan, as I am, he tends to show a little less enthusiasm for the opposing team. And I'd rather not have to listen to that. Not to mention, Sam Rosen is who I'd rather listen to anyway.

Yeah, because he always calls it down the middle!

But he is cancelled out by Chico Resh!

True. Chico's got some sort of creepy charles bronson thing going, and I really could care less what arena concession he's going to eat at each home game

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification.

How is everyone's HD picture for the NCAA tourney tonight? Mine is good, not great and I find ESPNHD to be the best for hoops.

This might be wishful thinking on my part but while I didn't catch the NCAA I believe there might have been an improvement on HD stations across the board this evening - even the PGA on Versus! Pictures just seemed to be a degree overall sharper, vibrant and crisper than we've been experiencing of late (although Equator did have digital breakup at times).

We know that CV is switching to SDV in some areas and promoting how extra bandwidth would give us better quality pictures and eventually more stations down the road. Could this be the start?

Anyone else in the Bronx notice improved HD tonight? I would hate to think I experienced a mirage caused either by tired eyes or a scorching thirst for uncompressed HD.

I sympathize with your pain but fortunately I was channel surfing and eventually caught back up with the MSG Rangers broadcast. Just wondering who (MSG or Cablevision) was "asleep at the wheel" and didn't have MSG in HD at the start of the game?

I have seen the same thing happen on the YES Network and always wonder why some days Mike and the Mad Dog are in HD and other days they are not? That's an in-studio broadcast so why wouldn't it be in HD every day?
It is outrageous that Cablevision is making use of cablecard tvs and tivos obsolete with their going to switched digital channels. Doesn't the FCC require cable companies to offer cablecard service?
Tivo is coming out with a fix that will allow it to get SDV channels. There is also the new "tru2way" being developed that will work with SDV. Panasonic has committed to making devises to support that. Cablevision has been using SDV for over a year and all major cable companies are now moving to SDV, it's the only way they can compete with satellite and telco. They are still offering cablecard service, but since day one cablecards haven't been able to get every service offered by cable companies.

I kid you not I thought I was seeing the same thing as well. I checked out Rush HD, notorious for compression issues with the fast moving skiing scenes and such but it looked somewhat improved from the usual artifacts. I'm in Brooklyn. Something seemed to have improved somewhat, either that or I'm seeing things I want to.
PQ still looks the same here in Brookhaven, LI. Perhaps the SDV rollout hasn't reached us yet.

Glad to know I wasn't alone doubting my eyes when noticing a difference last night. Picture quality remains much more improved today.

There are other factors that make me hope an overall upgrade is beginning to take effect, at least starting with the Bronx/Brooklyn feed. Improved picture quality was not noticed on Long Island. Also, volume suddenly gets louder and then back to normal on many stations. And did anyone notice this morning's program information was messed up? Not only was the title incorrect but the particular movie supposed to be airing on Starz HD was one that would never be seen on that station (i.e, a 1940's black and white Tim Holt western).

Again, something seems to be brewing. Maybe the problems encountered with the addition of the 15 VOOM HD stations caught CV off-guard and it's taken them time to root out the causes and resolve them. That's just a guess but might explain why they as so far behind schedule adding additional ones since then.

Wilt announced on the Yahoo forum that a fix for the SDV recording problem on the 8300 DVR's will be pushed in the next two weeks.

I record all 82 Red Wings games. Whether I'm busy or the game is starting at 10 pm here, I want to watch it later. I've never once had any ruin the game for me.

My picture is still the same here in NJ on the Raritan network although the PGA on Versus yesterday seemed a tiny bit better than usual, still not great and maybe wishful thinking on my part. I must admit that college hoops on CBS have outstanding PQ. Kudos to CBS. IMHO they continue to broadcast with the best HD quality.

We do, when at a Met game. Seeing the plays again in HD and hearing the crowd reaction in Dolby Digital can feel almost like it was at Shea, especially when the camera angle is similar to the view from our seats (not the centerfield camera, of course LOL). It also helps when one wants to preserve special occasions like Ralph Kiner Night or to figure out why El Duque was called for two balks in one inning (we didn't have a clue until watching the replay).

That's the best thing to DVR, skip all those pesky commercials, and between periods or halftime, and just enjoy the game.

According to an MSG insider, the problem was not with the network nor with the provider but with on-site hardware. It turned out a defective encoder [which converts the HD signal to bits and bytes so it can be sent over copper than fiber] was sent to the Rangers truck by the contracted transmission company most away teams use at the Rock. It was disassembled and fixed in the first period.
Stop whining about the cable system. There are many, many hurdles an HD signal has to go through before it gets to your cable or satellite provider, and then through the provider to your set.
It's a miracle of modern technology that it works more than 99% of the time.

It is not the same as watching it live. Part of the fun of watching sports is getting the call from your brother or friend to tallk about the game, live!
DVR the shows you are missing while watching the game.
