New York, NY - Cablevision - Page 120

Just curious if anyone else in the Bronx or Brooklyn has found an improvement in HD since CNiles and I first noticed it a few days back.
I am in the Bronx and the HD PQ for has been the same for me. I still get motion blurring on HBO and Cinemax HD. Plus, now I noticed motion blurring on a few of the other movie channels in SD. However, all my local network stations in HD is great. NCAA tournaments, and Mets and Yankees games are great. Glad I have that to look forward to with the baseball season upon us.

Stop whining about the cable system. There are many, many hurdles an HD signal has to go through before it gets to your cable or satellite provider, and then through the provider to your set.
It's a miracle of modern technology that it works more than 99% of the time.

Thanks for the clarification on what the problem was but I wasn't whining... there are number of individuals who post here who are not pleased with the HD picture quality they are receiving compared to what its been in the past. No need to lecture me on the "miracles of modern technology" as I am responsible for an IT data center and certainly appreciate the complexities of it. How happy would you be if your car only started 99% of the time?

This info is from CV's customer support site, it lists the systems that will not see the VOOM channels moved to SDV because they are 100% digital.

*CableCARD customers in Bronx, Brooklyn, Hudson, Newark, Elizabeth, Paterson will not be affected by this change and will continue to receive VOOM HD channels after April 15, 2008.

DVR the shows you are missing while watching the game.

In my case i get home just as the game is starting. I DVR the ranger game, eat dinner and start watching after that.

Then i can fast forward between periods and by the 3rd period I am caught up live

Cant beat that.

Yes, we've been watching lots of sports and they look spectacular. Have been keeping an eye out for consistent motion blurring but haven't come across anything that bad on any of the stations (including HBO HD). Might be because we have a CRT instead of flat panel?

Rear Projection LCD here...watching Versus HD Pens-Isles...pic still stinks...lots of pixelation. FSNHD and MSGHD are both great for hockey. Versus...poor. Don't know why.

Six Sigma, baby!
And that 1 percent of the time my car doesn't start because the mice running the hybrid system didn't like their cheese.

Only caught a few minutes of the game - obviously not enough to give a honest evaluation of pixilation but will admit the sharpness was not as pristine as MSG, etc., however, still a big improvement over early last week when the picture was less than DVD quality.

The local Eyewitness News on ABC has never been as vivid as it was this evening, nor Paula Dean on the Food Channel, which I hardly ever watch.

FYI - haven't noticed any difference with SD stations; only those in HD.

Last night I was flipping through each channel and it seems across the board, the PQ does seem a little better. The only one I did not think was that great was World Sport, when the Brazilian basketball game was on.
The Nets/ Knicks games on YES and MSG last night had the best picture by far as is usually the case.
I'm waiting to see what the Mets games on SNY look like this year now that they'll be in HD on the road. Opening day next Monday in Florida.

Now that makes three of us. Hope there are more.

Caught a little of this morning's Red Sox-Athletics game from Tokyo on ESPN2 HD and it looked fantastic! So did Letterman and Leno last night.

I guess it depends upon the source of the event on World Sports; soccer games don't look so hot either but most of the time the Pan American games are fine. The Cagefighting that was on Versus looked better than the hockey feed it had followed.

i was watching the knicks/nets last nite, switching between yes and msg... the pq was pretty good, but also was watching the celtic's/76er game on 701, and the pq sux'd...

Has anyone been experiencing random sound cutt offs for a split second on the HD channels? I hope this doesn't happen with Wrestlemania this Sunday.

I have seen this occassionally and sometimes it's accompanied with a picture freeze. Sometimes I get "sound stutter" for a second too...

Tonight's sporting events such as the Dallas-Denver game on TNT, hockey on MSG and even NCCA on CBS didn't appear as sharp as we're used to; however, the Yankee exhibition replay on YES was as good as it can get and the Cuba-Mexico baseball game on World Sport was much better than the CFL and Soccer it carries.

Wonder if atmospheric conditions affects microwave transmissions or those beamed from communication satellites to ground stations similar to the way shortwave signals are.

I want SPEED HD for Formula 1 races.

A couple of days ago, we ordered MLB Extra Innings. Now it comes in on 2 of 3 of out boxes, but the 3rd one wont even see the channel. It skips right over the channels, and the only way to get to it is to manually type it in. Then once on the hidden channel, it says we are not authorized. Cablevision is clueless as to what is going on, and they want to send someone out, in a week. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this sooner?
Don't know if anyone caught this afternoon's game from Florida but the only thing better than the Mets on the field was seeing the Mets in HD. Today's broadcast was eyepopping - the most pristine game we ever saw on SNY. Outstanding color and sharpness.

Last year the consensus was that HD content on YES was superior to SNY but CV must have done something two weeks ago because the Mets never looked this good last season (and we're not talking about September). And it's not just SNY - last night's ESPN telecast from the nation's capital was just as beautiful and the Yankee exhibition broadcasts from Florida were just breath-taking.

Anyone else think the same so to confirm that it's just not my imagination and wishful thinking?

Have you tried a reboot?

I flipped to SNY and caught some of the post game and some of the replay and agree that the PQ was fantastic.

Hi Remy,

Good to know other's made the same observation. I got home about 5:20 PM and was so taken back by the fantastic picture quality I yelled out to my wife to come in to see if for herself.

Over the past few weeks there has been a noticable improvement of CV's HD feed to the Bronx - finally! Don't know if there has been any improvement with the digital stations since we focus primarily on HD channels (except for Turner Classic Movies, Fox Movie Channel and, for the Mrs., QVC).

Check with Cablevision to see if you can reconnect that box to another cable feed to see if it allows MLB to come through and, at the same time, also connect a functioning box to the feed that isn't working to see if it then comes through as well. This could be a way to determine if it's a malfunctioning box which could be brought back for replacement.

I had some issues getting the free preview of MLBEI last night. It worked on one of my boxes but not the other two. Someone on the Yahoo group who has had problems with NHLCI said CV came to his house and changed some wiring and it now works fine, so the service call might be your solution.

Yeesh. Yeah, they set up a service call because the box has a low signal. Here is my answer. The box has a strong enough signal to pull down any regular channel, HD included, but not strong enough to pull in a Switched Video signal. Does that makes any sense?

+1. Probably the best PQ of any baseball game I've seen. Let's hope this continues and spreads across all the HD channels!

I thought the same thing while watching the game. But yet in the Local Baseball HD thread, everyone seemed to think the opposite.

I thought it looked great seeing them in HD on the road for the first time.

SDV like VOD is a two way communication. That's why a strong signal is required. Regular TV watching is just one way.

So if the signal is too weak to access SDV, would I be seeing the NOT AUTHORIZED message like I currently am? I guess I figured it out. Does CV charge to install an amp?
