New York, NY - Cablevision - Page 278

From a CT Pura filing:

"Effective Wednesday, January 25, 2012, Cablevision will launch MTV2 in High Definition (HD) in Connecticut. MTV2 HD will launch on channel 740 and will be available to residential customers (with the proper HD equipment) subscribing to the Family Package and above. MTV2 HD is a true simulcast of MTV2."

Given the recent track record of HD channel additions it may only be added to all digital systems outside of CT.

MTV needs a second HD station? Almost nothing is HD on their primary station!

was making the switch to fios last week n had an install date of yesterday.. called CV last week to inform them we would be switching, and they matched... or came very close to the fios price, along with opt. boost.

with fios i had opt'd for their 35/35 internet, as normally with CV i was doing 18 on the download, 2 and change on uploads. well with boost i'm doing 19/20 downloading, and 7 ish on uploads.. bit disappointing..

does anyone know if fios 35/35 are really obtainable speeds??

We pay for 25/25 and usually get about 30/15-20.

Why not post FIOS questions in the FIOS thread?
This is a HDTV forum and OT posts should be deleted!

You'll pay for 35/35. You'll get something like 42/39. All day, every day. No joke, no exaggeration. FiOS Internet is that good.
Here is mine on FiOS it is the best ISP I have ever had...

Please note the topic. This ain't the FIOS thread, folks. Further off-topic posts will be removed without notice.

They are taking a long time rolling out the all digital footprint.
Won't miss this HD addition but wish we had ID HD on my system.

since we are on the CV board and don't want to get on the wrong side of the 'mod'... anyone else experience these problems with the samsung HD boxes

for no apparrant reason, the caller ID stops working... it works on the other SA boxes on other tv's in the house, just not the samsung... need to pull the power cord and reboot..

also, yesterday my wife was watchin CH7, i came in the room, and changed it to C69... the box changed to 69, but immed went back to 7. i hit the last channel button, it went back to 69, but immed. again went back to 7.

i then hit 0069, and it went to 69 and remained there... but the CH7 info was at the bottom. i had to hit the info button to get rid of it..

again a reboot seem to have solved the problem.

the bugs have not been worked out of these samsung boxes yet...

the caller id and the dynamic search function always seem to be flaky throughout my home, including SA8300HD boxes and SA4250...wonder if it isn't the boxes that are at fault.

Nothing is sent in the clear by Cablevision in NYC. You need a box or cablecard to get any TV.

Did they remove Palladia (785) from the family cable package?
I tune to it tonight in the Yorktown system and get the text about ordering it.

Optimum will begin offering you new iO TV packages on March 27, 2012. You will continue to enjoy the package to which you currently subscribe unless you choose to make a change. For more information on these new rates and packages, check your billing statement in the coming month or visit this page starting February 27, 2012.

http://www.optimum.com/optimum-prices.jsp

I wonder what the changes will be?

It's weird. I have had Family Cable for years, with IO Navigation, and always enjoyed Palladia, until last night. Its one of my favorite channels.
Maybe it was always in error and they caught it?
Odd.
Just curious how they are working these days? Stable or still spotty? And besides international channels, what do you need a Tuning Adapter for?

Thinkig about switching back as my directv contract is almost finished and CV will pay off the remaining balance... Has picture quality improved any in the last 12-18 months (if a tivo is used; I know the 8300 box has some PQ issues I think?)

Odd.

They always listed Palladia in the iO package but I too was getting it with Family Cable, until today. So yes, they finally caught it.

CV coming wednesday to checkout my upstairs box..Lost picture, pulled plug to reboot. Box did not display the "turn on" command after unplug/plug in... I get about 10m of "hold",before I lost patience and pulled the plug. CV couldn't fix it over the phone so they are sending a tech. Also lost sound on downstairs box 1/2 hr before SB, CV couldn't fix that either.. Turned on box downstairs tonite, and got sound back.. I am tempted to switch also.

I live in an apartment complex and we were told last week that they will not be allowing directv dishes anymore. Cablevision is the only other option in my area so I was forced to subscribe. They came yesterday and installed the Samsung boxes and I am in shock on how it is so inferior to DirecTV. To make it worse I just picked up a sony Hx929 and their service has sucked all the enjoyment out of watching my new set. Here are the various issues I have with cablevisions service.

1. The guide looks like its from 1999. I havent had cablevision in years and was shocked to find out they havent even updated their guide.

2. The DVR is a joke. I recorded 2 shows and the DVR is 10% full!!!! That is unacceptable! Second off my scheduled recording cut off before the show ended....never had that issue with DirecTV. When you try to fast forward and then hit play , the box is unresponsive and i end up fast forwarding way past the point I was looking for

3. Freezing box. My Samsung box has frozen several times in 2 days! On demand movies don't load all the time. This requires rebooting and you might as well go out for the night because the box takes 30 minutes to reboot!

4. The most important thing...PICTURE QUALITY is awful and inconsistent. I was watching the knicks game last night and It looks borderline standard definition. CBS and HBO look the best but still look dreadful compared to DirecTV and Fios.

Thanks Cablevision for totally ruining my TV viewing enjoyment!

It is illegal for them to interfere with your ability to receive video programming signals from direct broadcast satellites ("DBS"), broadband radio service providers (formerly multichannel multipoint distribution service or MMDS), and television broadcast stations ("TVBS").

See Telecommunications Act of 1996: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/over-air-r...n-devices-rule

You must have your tv hooked up wrong since MSGHD along with the other sports channels are at full bandwidth, ie: 2 channels per QAM

your other complaints may be valid

But it's not illegal to prohibit the mounting of a dish to a building or prohibit the use of existing cables used for Cablevision. If a tenant has a balcony, he/she could use a tripod or non-penetratng roof mount, but the landlord can prohibit dishes that extend outside of the balcony. Cabling is a problem, too, but can be overcome with the use of flat cable to go under a balcony door.
