Gimmie a break!

Sorry not everyone wants to pay higher rates for family cable. Sports programming is expensive for cablevision and they have to pass costs to us customers. Not everyone is a sports fan. FiOS and time warner also have NBC sports on a tier above their equivalent of family cable.

You can add the iO Sports Pak for $6.95 per month and you'll get NBCSN, NHL Network, and several others. After the playoffs you can drop it and it won't effect your current package.

I admit I am not a huge hockey fan but my boys have gotten into it and I was just surprised that a Rangers playoff game was not available on basic cable as usual.
I may have to add the Sports pack to keep the boys happy. Seems like a better value than stepping up another tier.

If you only watch the Rangers come playoff time then you wouldn't have know since they haven't been past the 1st round in a long time and that's when the cable exclusives kick in.

I have Family plus the Sports Pak, to me it's a better deal then the iO package since the sports channels were the only thing in iO I was watching, and now I get more of them for less money. Also, now with the new iO packages out if you bump up to a higher package you can't ever go back to Family cable, you would have to get the new equivalent that includes more, but also costs more. You can add or drop the sports pak without losing family cable.

Hello Ranger Fans! Aren't you forgetting about the Devils? They have the same problems with the restricted viewing on NBCSN.

And the same solution.

Ossining North: Cablevision has just bombed the analog tier. We were warned, of course, and offered "free" boxes for the first year.

The only stations "in the clear" QAM are the "must carry" local stations, in HD, a few public service channels, CSPAN, News12 Westchester, and one tier of SD stations at channel 94 QAM, with subchannels for each 2-13 "broadcast" station, so if you put in 2.1 you get CBS hd, and if you put in 94.2, you get an cropped SD feed of CBS...

Gone are all the basic cable channels, Comedy, Discovery, History, HG TV, etc, that were useful.

My two "secondary" sets are hooked back up to the OTA antenna. My junk SA 8300 box and my Sony HDD 250 with CableCard are unchanged.

I don't watch sports, but if I did, I'd miss the many sports channels that just went away.....YES, MSG, ESPN, etc.

Can you give us the link to this schedule you attached so we can bookmark it? Plus it seems strange as to why there's date ranges and not specific dates.

Yorktown/Cross River system killed the analog this morning. A week after the 5/22 date they sent in the bill.

I know I'm totally late on this - but is this analog cut-off the reason all my local hd channels are missing? The one's that used to be 2-1, 4-1, 5-1, etc.???

It's possible they just moved them when they reclaimed the analog bandwidth. Simply re-scan your TV or Clear QAM tuner...

Cheers!

Yup - I tried that - they are gone.

Does Cablevision offer any 3D channels? I thought they had one for sporting events but I don't see it.

Right now the only 3D is on demand.

I'm in northern Westchester and lost analog about 3days ago. I don't currently have a tv with digital tuner with QAM. Are you folks saying that you can still receive local channels with that type of TV?

Yes

re: receiving local channels with a non quam tuner TV. You mean that these local channels are being received via cable connection? I thought you need an OTA antenna.
kibitzer: No you won't receive any channels with an analog TV or an HDTV without a QAM tuner. All digital systems need an HDTV with a QAM tuner to receive any channels straight to the TV if you're not using a box.

Other cable providers like Comcast offer DTA (Digital to Analog) converters for customers in their systems who have gone all digital but Cablevision doesn't offer them.

Works fine for me on my 4250HD box connected to my TV via HDMI. Hitting the Settings button once and moving up twice to Captions and switching it on shows closed captioning in my case. Have you tried rebooting the box?

I'm in northern Westchester. I just bought a new tv (with Clear-QAM tuner) and located 11 digital channels. All of them are crap (i.e. several local public access, 2 home shopping networks, etc.). Not one is a local network channel like ABC or CBS or even PBS. I don't care about Disney Channel or other cable networks, I just need the news in the morning on the TV in the kitchen. I can't use over-the-air antenna because I'm in a valley. MUST I get another cable box? or could this "DTA" thing allow me to get at least just local network channels?

What happens if you enter the channel manually on your remote. Example, 2.1 or 4.1?
Or try entering the real corresponding channel like 33.1 or 28.1.

Broadcast Basic channels should be in the clear, and you should not need another STB unless you are in the Five Boroughs (and you are not).

There is one additional possibility, and that is that there is a trap on your cable drop. CV used to use these traps to filter service at the pole. It is possible there is still a trap of some type in your drop which blocks the clear QAM signals.

Go to this page:
http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/

Punch in your zip code, select the provider, and see what channels are in the clear.

Much of the stuff in the clear is above RF cable channel 80. If you were a broadcast basic only customer in the past, then a low-pass (i.e. only let low frequencies pass) filter may be installed on your drop.

Cheers!

Wow. Doesn't every other provider offer at least one 3D channel, like ESPN3D?
Cablevision did once upon a time had their own 3D channel airing certain sports events that were in 3D, but due to lack of viewership and bandwidth it was removed. Besides 3DTVs was/is just a fad/gimmick the industry pushed to sell more TVs since HDTV saturation is high. The only way it won't be a gimmick is to not require expensive 3D glasses to watch 3D.
Totally agree about 3D being a failure but even if they gave glasses away for free I would not be interested!
2nd that about the glasses.. I am retired and have perfect vision..Not about to put on glasses to watch tv.. smile.gif
