I noticed tonight after the Yankee game on MY9, that the 10'o clock news on My9 is in HD. Is this new? For the longest time they were in SD.

We can get News 12 in sd and hd without a cable box or card. Why is it we need a box or card to receive the weather, channel 61? Isn't it considered a part of News 12?
Thank You. MQ

Looks great! Nice to see a new guide. Now the question is .....When will my system go all digital? According to their timetable my system now requires cable boxes on all sets and should be all digital. So when will I get the HD versions of channels like H2 and ID?

Looks like they are incorporating the guide used on the Optimum iPad App. Nice improvement. Hopefully it's more responsive as well.

Mixdr

I have read it could take a couple of month after you receive message on screen before you get the missing hd channels and the removal of sdv on the premiums. I know it is frustrating since my date was 8/7 and i still have message on screen telling me to get boxes and have no new hd channels.

How does everyone wire up their stb to go get 5.1 thru the system? I chose hdmi in the sound settings and have an optical going to the AVR for stereo cable music. If I use hdmi to AVR, would I get the 5.1 surround sound? I do not turn on my AVR to watch tv but if a show is in 5.1 , the box defaults to stereo . I could always change settings in box to digital instead of hdmi.. thanks in advance..

Getting the box to pass 5.1 over HDMI doesn't work on all setups. I have optical going to my home theater for when I want 5.1. I use the red and white RCA to the TV for regular stereo sound when I don't fire up the HTS. This way I can leave the box set to digital audio all the time.

HDMI from cable box to home theater
HDMI from blu ray to home theater
HDMI cable from home theater to tv (ARC)

RemyM: I assume you have HDMI from stb to tv for HD picture. I will try the rca jacks for stereo sound and put settings to digital in stb. good answer thankyou

I do not want to turn on my AVR for every tv show. So there is no reason to go to AVR with HDMI.. I will try the optical path and see how it sounds..thanks for quick reply

Actually, I have HDMI and optical audio going from the box to HTS then HDMI to TV, and I have component video and RCA audio going from box to TV. I know others have reported that you can't have both hooked up at the same time but it works for me from my SA8300HD to my older Sony CRT HDTV. So when I just want regular sound I watch TV on the cable box input and for 5.1 I watch TV on the HTS input.

Most receivers have a by-pass mode to resolve that issue

Any word on when these channels are going live?

I don't know what Cablvision is doing with NFLN feed on Ch11..

If I tune to NFLNet on Ch 795 I get a 16:9. proper aspect

Yet if I tune to Ch 11, I get a zoomed in picture with most of the picture cropped off.

Not a big deal for me, but for the poor guy who just has broadcast basic, its pretty lame.

Correction: CH 11 on an SDTV. I have an old CRT in my bedroom with an SA4200 box, and the picture is zoomed in and what seems to the left, so you cannot see anything on the right side.
If I tune to Ch 150, I get the correct letterboxed image.

I also confirm this at work where we have an analog feed from Cablevision, and I am seeing the same thing.

I have a couple of old 27" CTR TV,s. They are useless as the connecting cable out from wall will no longer transmit any picture without a STB. I was thinking of installing a converter (digital to analog). If I do this do I attach the cable from wall or an indoor antenna in the input of the convertor? I would rather attach the cable line but will this work? Please help!
A digital to analog coverter will only work with an antenna, not a cable signal. So you would need to hook up an antenna.

Have been using an Optimum Cablevision SA8300HD box with HDMI to a TV for video and TV speakers and using Digial out to an A/V receiver for Dolby 5.1 home theater. This worked fine until the settings menu was changed last week. I used to be able to change the Audio between HDMi and Dolby depending on wheeter I wanted the TV speakers or my surround sound home theater speakers. SInce the menu was change I no longer get Dolby 5.1 to mv A/V only get Pro Logic.
Unpluging the HDMI from TV restores the Dolby 5.1. The new menu does not turn off HDMi when Dolby is selected.

They must have fixed it. Ch 11 now shows a letterboxed picture.

On a sidenote, it says on my bill the Smithsonian channel (Ch 780) is being added to Silver on 11/29. Great I always heard there were good shows on that channel.

News 12 Traffic and Weather goes HD next week according to the guide channel and will be on 792 and 61.

A free preview of OWN has replaced the NFL Network preview on channel 11.

Are the traffic cams HD?

They go from NFLN which was aimed 99% towards men to OWN which is aimed 99% towards women.

I doubt any of the state or highway authorities have HD traffic cameras yet. I would expect it being done more for the weather graphics.
