has nothing to do with demographics. has all to do with what content they have permission to carry from the programmer. Obviously recently launched NFLN and ratings challenged OWN want some exposure and having it temporarily on a low channel number like 11 builds awareness and helps ratings.

A lot of channels not coming in, on Long Island.

I just thought I'd post this video about what happens when analog cable is turned off:

when you hooked up your analog/digital convertor did you uuse a roof top antenna? I connected to a flat RCA indoor antenna but cannot receive lower band channels such as 2,4 and 5.

LOL!!!! That's not my video, I'm not even from the area. I just thought it was funny how the guy ranted and complained about Cablevision wasting bandwidth to post that message to every single channel, especially if that's why they did away with analog in the first place. If they got that message on every analog channel, then they just might as well still offer analog cable.
that message stays up for a few weeks... thats all - its the 'best' way to get the message to those who still rely on analog service

TWC did the same thing a few years ago in the city when they shut down a large chunk of analog channels.
That message stays on for months not weeks which is way too long. I am still waiting since 8/7/12 for my system to really go ALL digital.
Just checked the other day and it is still there, which also means we still do not have the last 7 or 8 HD Channel additions.
Very frustrating!

Not sure how long they think it will take for people to get the message, unless they are in jail or dead two weeks would be fine.

Edit:
Just went completely all digital 11/13/12 and received the missing hd channels plus the two added today!
Very pleased!

Cablevision will launch ESPN Goal Line/ESPN Buzz Beater this week. ESPN Goal Line/ESPN Buzz Beater is one cable channel that operates during the College football season as ESPN Goal Line, and during the College basketball season as ESPN Buzz Beater. ESPN Goal Line/ESPN Buzz Beater provides live look-ins and up to the minute commentary from ESPN’s experts and analysts.

The channel only operates on major game days for their respective sports. Goal Line operates from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am ET on Saturdays, while Buzz Beater operates from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesdays and 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm ET on Saturdays. When the channel is “off-air” a slate appears detailing air times.

ESPN Goal Line/ESPN Buzz Beater will launch in Standard Definition (SD) on channel 152 and in High Definition (HD) on channel 827.

Has CV started doing any additional rate shaping or compression or anything like that? Even on previously "good" channels (major networks, movie channels), I'm seeing a lot more compression artifacts over the past month or so than I used to. I used to at least count on getting a basically pristine picture on the major networks, but, for example, the Thanksgiving parade on NBC was a horror show of blockiness and ringing artifacts, and I'm watching the Giants game now (also on NBC, but I don't mean to single them out - football on CBS was the same today), and there's a constant "shimmering" on the grass, especially during motion, where it turns into a completely blurred mess of splotchy green. Even completely black screens (such as between the game and commercials) have grey blocks. Any dark scenes in almost any program have that weird "snap" effect that I used to see a lot on badly compressed computer videos, where the dark background kind of snaps into a different noise profile every couple seconds. It's very distracting. Pretty much all on-screen text or logos on any channel also have noticeable ringing.

I actually use a CableCARD with a TiVo Premiere but I doubt that could have anything to do with it - TiVo's just passing the digital signal from the CC, and I'm using HDMI. I don't mean to overstate it either - I'm pretty picky when it comes to PQ, so it's definitely something I doubt most people would notice. But on a 50" 1080p set, it's pretty obvious to me, at least, and it wasn't like this even a month ago. Has anyone else noticed a change?
Yes, definitely. I'm also now noticing something that looks like combing on a few channels, I'm seeing it on Fox 5 right now.
Also, has anyone noticed that since the new guide went live, pressing record during a program you've been watching from the start no longer records it from the beginning?

Ugh, yeah, I've seen that too. If this keeps up, CV will force me back to FiOS (I had it for a while, but their internet was really unreliable and CV made me an offer I couldn't refuse to switch back). I never had a problem with CV before, but this is now ranking up there with the worst HD picture quality I've ever seen.

I've given up on CV - FIOS in two weeks. Freeze ups on multiple channels way too frequently and even have jittering on one box. Tech swapped out the splitter - I've changed stbs several times and nothing changes. let's hope FIOS is the answer.

got my hurricane credit fast, though I would have to wait at least 2 billing cycles.. good job Cablevision..smile.gif

Still with the 8300HD? Those things just don't seem powerful enough to both decode an HD signal and run a program guide, let alone do anything else. It's one reason why I switched to TiVo. The TiVo Premiere I have with CV has none of those problems; it was a night and day difference as far as stability of the picture goes. I swear the PQ seemed better after I got it too, although that could have just been psychological.

But now I'm just having consistent PQ issues on most channels (not stability; no dropouts or stutters or anything, just consistently ugly picture quality, at least to my eyes). I'm trying to test OTA right now to compare and make sure it's not my imagination, but I'm not getting a good signal with my old Radio Shack passive antenna. May need to buy a new powered one.

I'm thinking to call CV anyway because somehow NBC is consistently the worst looking channel and it also cuts over to an SD sports channel randomly. I guess it could be either my equipment or my line; maybe they can run a test.

I had FiOS a few years ago and couldn't really notice the PQ difference at that time, but I have a feeling I would now.

I can tell you firsthand , I was watching SNF last night on NBC, and I was switching back and forth from my STB to OTA, and it was much better PQ watching OTA hands down, no comparison.

I thought maybe it's my STB, so I went in another room where I have another HDTV, and got the same results. So its definately Cablevision.

I notice tonight the new info guide went live. Looks nice, but I'm only getting it on my Samsung box, not on my SA boxes.
Same thing for me Mike, although CV recording said you will notice it on one or 2 boxes at a time , not all at once. My Samsung box has it in kitchen, not yet on SA box in basement..

Anyone else get the ESPN3D channel working yet?

Got the update today and its Channel 155. The guide shows the listings of 3D programming such as College football or X Games, but no feed.
