Same here. Still nothing on the SA boxes.

I did go to the Optimum store Monday 12/31 to swap out an old SA4200box I've had for 8 years, along with an old Motorola Surf modem. I got a new Samsung STB and a new Arris modem.
The Arris modem seems to work a lot better. But when I hooked up the STB, I got no HD channels. Called Cablevision, they said based on the serial number of my STB, they can't push a reset to update it due to a bug, told me go back to the store and get another STB. Thanks Cablevision. You would think the people at the Optimum store would have known about this bug before handing out these STB's?

I had the same issue , I called them and I was told that there was an issue with that broadcast however I have the same issue from time to time on other channels and my volume levels are low on some channels as well.. I was told some additional tips.. one was to set my audio range to narrow on the box, what that does is limit the dynamic range and keeps the audio relatively leveled out almost like a vocal compressor or limiter. Most importantly I was told to make sure I turn the box off when it is not in use, if the box is left on it can experience audio drop outs through the hdmi as it is a data cable, when the box is turned off the box's system cache clears just like a computer and as well updates are received at that time . I tried turning it off when it is not in use and i set it to narrow and it works PERFECT !! smile.gif hope this helps !!

Effective Wednesday, January 16, 2013, Cablevision will launch MundoFox HD in the Broadcast Basic package. MundoFox HD is a Spanish-language television network that will produce a weekday evening news program as well as a half-hour newscast. MundoFox will also include sports programming from Fox Deportes, including soccer, major league baseball and boxing events. It will also feature a signature format “teleseries”, which compared to traditional Spanish TV telenovelas have fewer episodes and emphasize more action-oriented storylines and diverse locations. MundoFox HD is a true High Definition simulcast of MundoFox in standard definition.

Got the new Samsung box Friday after the old SA box died according to tech. I noticed that in the audio settings the choice is Dolby digital on or off.
I have a VSX 03 AVR but can't seem to get a surround sound from speakers.. The display says " HDMI, PCM, Stereo..is there any station to test 5.1?
Taxman, I second guessed whether I was or not I was getting 5.1 over HDMI from my SA4250, because although I was getting a weak response fom my surrounds, I wasn't getting much of a response from my bass shakers. I had thought it might be my receiver trying to process 2.0 into 5.1.

What is your receiver displaying when watching a 5.1 movie?

Thanks to help from Batpig, , I was able to determine that the SA4250HD was indeed passing DD 5.1 over HDMI, albeit a crappy/weak rendition.
When watching 5.1 programming from Cable, my Denon displays Dolby Digital, and when I go to the set up screen under info, it says Dolby Digital 3/2.1, so it is receiving 5.1 over HDMI.

Try watching a program with 5.1 (Football, Sopranos, or a movie that states in the beginning that it is being broadcast in 5.1.), and seeing what your display says.

John: I assume you mean a BD 5.1 movie. Put on Master and Commander and it showed DTS-HD with 5 speaker lights displayed.. Should I go back to optical from STB to AVR and ditch the HDMI? thanks for reply.. Get any snow by you?

No, I was referring to what it shows when you are displaying cable programming when a 5.1 movie is being aired.
Cablevision does not send any HD audio.

dsskid: Watched CSI:LV last night, clearly marked 5.1 before it started. Only got SIGSEL- HDMI on the screen, then it went to display "STEREO"
Only way I get surround is if I change to "TV surround".. Nothing else on display except volume, hdmi, SP A , and PCM.. I appreciate all the help, but I'm getting frustrated .
Taxman, I'll take a look at my settings on my Samsung when I get home. I can't remember what mine is set at, but I do get 5.1.
If you get DTS when using your BD player, that tells me its something in the settings in the box.
When you go with an optical cable from the STB to the amp, does it work?
Also when you had the old SA box, did it work? Did you use HDMi or optical out?

Edit: After I got home and checked. And your right, it only gives 2 choices: Dolby Digital On or Off.
Could it be you got a bad box?

Mike: put in optical wire and pulled out hdmi.. All lights come on one of the HBO stations.. Get all 5.1 speakers lit up on display with DD+Pl II MOVIE.. Also all kinds of Digital lights showing.. Guess everything is ok now.. thanks for help.. Set up Harmony 1000 with regular tv viewing with hdmi going into tv and surround viewing with AVR on..
Taxman,
On a lot of receivers,DD+Pl II MOVIE usually indicates that your receiver is processing a 2 channel signal into 5.1 surround mode.
Glad that you got it working, but it should still work with HDMI. So you might have a defective box or bad HDMI cable.

Since you have the STB plugged directly to the TV, does the tv tell you info on the current input? Some tv's say 1080i, 16:9, and possibly the audio like DD.

Did you try a different input on your amp?
Mike: tried hdmi 2 and it works, guess the hdmi 1 port was the problem. Sony Bravia tv says 16:9 and 1080i.. thanks for the help..

Which HDMI port did you switch , on the amp or on the TV?

AVR

Scratching my head for this one. You said it works fine with your BD player in HDMI port 1, but not the STB.

Just for kicks, try a standard DVD in your BD player that has DD 5.1 in HDMI port1.
You were getting DTS-HD playing a Blu-Ray, just curious what you get playing a 5.1 movie.

Maybe it has to do with the receiver not being able to decode 5.1 properly?
I have a separate port for BD player labeled BD IN, then 2 regular HDMI inputs. Might be a bad port since I never used that port.. Everything else works fine..
OK, that explains that. I think they call it a "BD input" just for naming inputs on the display correctly, but you can probably connect any HDMI source in there.
Then try the BD player in HDMI port 1 and see if you can get DTS-HD or 5.1.
And try the STB in the "BD" input.

If the same problem happens in HDMI 1, I have a feeling something is not programmed correctly on your AVR.

On my Onkyo system, there is an option to assign an HDMI input to an optical input.
Anotherwords if I wanted to use my STB's optical out instead of the the STB's HDMI audio, I could.
This means that the optical input would have priority over the HDMI input.
Check if your VSX-03 has the same option.
ok Mike, got the same option on the AVR as yours. Switched the HDMI input to the optical input from the STB.. Got the 5.1, all speaker lights are on.. Happy with the setup, leaving it alone, Thanks for help

All my channels, none were Dolby. Then about a hour later, they were Dolby again. Probably a cablevision glitch.

Hey All,

I currently added a surround sound system in my Family Room and installed a Denon 1713 receiver with a Samsung SMT-C5320 cable box. I am experiencing drops in the audio from time to time where the volume goes really low and take a bit for it to come back. Has anyone experienced this before and is there a way to fix it? It happens at random times and on random channels. I have the Samsung SMT-C5320 hooked up to the Denon via HDMI.

Thanks!

I have a problem. I am not getting 5.1 thru my surround sound system when watching an HD on demand movie. I have my HDMI from the cable box hooked to my TV and the digital audio from the cable box hooked to my surround sound system. I am only getting stereo. I have digital audio turned to "on" in the cablevision settings. Any ideas?
Are you getting 5.1 when watching regular channels?

Is anyone else network DVR working? I seems like I haven't been able to access my DVR all week.
