While dish may be picking it up for free they do have costs to uplink it back to Cheyenne where Dish's main uplink is. Those are costs. So its not "free"

Also remember the Minneapolis DMA is huge. It runs from Iowa all the way to Canada (well one county short) and alot of the market can't get an OTA signal. KARE doesnt have the translator setup that the other Big4 so once you get outside of the metro area (especially north) there is no NBC.

I just love how Cheap Charlie says "I'm standing up to these companies to keep your bill lower"....BWAHAHAHAHA! Yeah sure. You raise your rates just as much as Directv does. Sure you had that "price freeze" for 2 years. I shutter what Dish subs will get in February as their price hike.

Right, but based on your post KARE should be paying Dish to carry the channel because that is the only way many can see it. Instead KARE says Dish must pay them for others to see treir programming. :-)

Time to get rid of 75% of the channels, let me pay for only the ones I want. I don't even care if it is more than I pay now. At least if one channel gets too expensive for my tastes I can drop it and the channel gets it more than the provider.

Alacarte will never happen....the programming providers wont let it happen.

Make no mistake, the more carriers like Comcast, DIRECTV, and Dish pay to program providers, the more they will charge subscribers. This business model is a conduit of providing money to program providers and sports teams, their players and owners. A few montha ago I read that TNT or TBS, I don't remember which, agreed to pay millions of dollars per episode for syndication rights for 2 Broke Girls. WE will wind up paying that money via cable or satellite fees and increased costs for the items we buy that are advertised on those shows. I remember back in the 1980s that TV shows were 27 minutes long, leaving only 3 minutes for commercials and promos. Now the shows are only 20 minutes long. Luckily we have DVRs now. I see no commercials. I stand behind the carriers and urge them to agree to NO increase in carriage fees.

Recently (over the past few months) I've had poor reception (unwatchable) on WCCO-DT and KSTP-DT (channels 4-1 and 5-1). It caused me even to go out and jiggle the antenna and check all my coax connections, to no success. I have always excellent reception on KMSP 9-1 and KARE 11-1--super-strong signal. Any ideas what is going on? Anything else I can check?

9 & 11 at the dtv conversion went back to their analog spots which are VHF
4 & 5 are on RF32 & 35 which are UHF (your tv remaps them back to 4 & 5 like you remember)

How old is the antenna?
Do you get any other stations like 2, 23,29? Those stations broadcast on UHF too

Check tv setting to make sure its not set to cable

Yes, I bought this antenna three years ago hoping for it to be very good in UHF.

Channel 4-1 used to come in quite well earlier this year; 5-1 was never great but usually watchable.

My antenna's pointed right at the Shoreview towers; not sure what else I could do.

What kind of antenna and where is it mounted? (Inside or outside.)

What coaxial cable are you using? (Is it RG59 or RG6?)

55317. I have the antenna pointed at 59 degrees (ENE) on the compass. I am using RG6. It is mounted in the garage, but has only one layer of the uninsulated garage wall in the way. (It is not very easy for me to mount it on the roof.)

I'm happy to report that WUCW 23-1 has expanded our OTA coverage to the Walker area on channel 35-2 as of Wednesday 10/10/12.

My HD Tivo series 3 still does not show any guide data for 29-3. Does anyone have Tivo Guide Data for 29.3?

No -- Tribune does not have it on Zap2it, either.

Looks like TPT MN (2-2) is no longer changing the aspect ratio of the programming (I think that is what its called)

If the program is in SD there are black bars on the side.....Use to be they'd stretch it or make it widescreen

Also the Bemidji hockey game this past weekend they went from widescreen to 4x3 black bar hell

I noticed that as well. I'm glad they started doing that though I was disappointed to see the hockey game in 4:3 when they used to show it in widescreen. I sent them an e-mail and they replied-

good to know. I ended up watching it on satellite channel 22. While its not HD it was better than what 2-2 had

I will occasionally watch KMSP local news via their live video stream. Does anybody happen to know if WCCO-4, KSTP-5, or KARE-11 has a similar live video feed? I have tried looking, but I can't seem to find one for those three. Also, does anybody have any idea who I should contact to suggest that they do this? I have sort of just about given up on KSTP-5, however, because I emailed them twice on something recently and I didn't even get acknowledgement of the e-mail. That is very disappointing to me because I like watching their channel, but it would be nice to at least get a response from them.

Did anyone watch the Vikings game tonight on Channel 11 over the air and hear the Spanish SAP audio under the regular audio like I did on both of my OTA TV's (both Panasonic)? I also called other people watching over the air that said they heard it too. When their newscast came on after the game channel 11 blamed it on Comcast and said it was only on the Comcast feed. Did anyone else hear it?

Yup. It seemed to be switching between Spanish and English briefly during the period I heard it OTA.

FWIW,I only watched a bit of the end of the game (waiting to see how much I had to pad my recordings due to it running long) and didn't hear anything odd via either my TV's internal tuner or my Tivo's tuner OTA.

The Spanish audio problem only happened during the 1st quarter. I just thinks it's not right for them to blame it on Comcast.

I'm on Charter in Willmar heard the same problem turned to NFL network feed no problem

it was directly from 11, not comcast or anything else

Directv 11....bad audio
OTA 11....bad audio
dish 11....bad audio
NFL Network...perfect audio

KARE blaming it on anyone else is wrong as those other providers get the feed for KARE from 11 directly. So if it was bad on OTA it was bad on any other provider who picked up KARE

3ABN station (33) has been off the air for a couple days now

For a while now I've noticed that HD network content on 5-1 has had a thin black bar along the top of the screen with my TV set to no overscan. I thought maybe it was part of the reported work-around that KSTP has been doing to hide the VBI lines at the top of the signal.

However, I happened to be watching recordings of the last two episodes of Last Resort and noticed that at the beginning of the program the picture went right to the top of the screen and looked more detailed. Then almost exactly 20 minutes into each episode, the black bar appeared at the top of the screen and the image stopped looking as detailed.

Now I'm guessing that something must be off with their network feed since it happened at approximately the same time into each episode and KSTP can't broadcast delayed HD content. Anyone else notice the thin black bar across the top of network HD content on 5-1?

Since it's been over a month and Tribune is still clueless that Bounce has been added on 29-3, I finally submitted a lineup form with Tivo. Since the mapping is straight-forward on this one there's reason to hope for a relatively quick response.

TVGOS has LiveWell listings but not Bounce and AFAIK they still haven't added AntennaTV which we've had for many many months now
I finally added Bounce to my Tivo grid so I can see when they've added it. Not that I plan on watching it much but I did watch some nice college football this weekend which I was surprised to see.

BTW I still see the VBI line on the top of KSTP 5.1 upconverts, not anything real HD but just things they upconvert.

This is a huge thread, I am still reading my way through it looking for advice on a decent antenna. It sounds like I am not the only one struggling with channels 5, 9, and 11.
