The AccuWeather talk came from a Broadcasting & Cable report last year that said, "Fox said its stations 'will offer their local viewers a 24/7 live streaming video weather channel provided by AccuWeather...'" Apparently they meant "streams" on the websites, not on the air.

MundoFOX talk was only speculative based on the fact that FOX owns the network and the stations and would presumably want to attain maximum distribution. Even though they did put it on a subchannel of an O&O station in DC, they apparently decided not to do that in Minneapolis and other markets.

The station is re-formatting it to what they want.

Hi- this is somewhat OTA related..... I have been having a problem since Monday recording 11-1 on my TiVo Premiere. When the TiVo switches to 11-1 to record a program I get a "Problem with the signal on this antenna channel. Trying again." message on a black screen. If I stop the recording, channel up and then back down, the 11-1 broadcast is there. If I press Record on the remote with the broadcast showing, then it will record the program as expected. This apepars to only be a problem when the TiVo itself switches the channel on one of the tuners to record 11-1. This is not a signal strength problem. This is not happening on other channels. This has never happened to me before in my 5+ years of TiVo use. It has happened multiple times since Monday. It is easily reproduceable. Restarting the unit does not fix the problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sorry I don't have a solution, but many other people are having the same problem. It seems to be a TiVo problem. Some feel that one of the tuners is bad.

Found the problem while on the phone with support. Channel List was corrupt and had two listings for 11-1. One would tune to a black screen and the other to the actual broadcast. Unchecked the first 11-1 from the Channel List and problem solved (they were both listed as KAREDT on digital frequency 11 without any asteriks). Just for good measure I repeated Guided Setup. The second 11-1 disappeared after doing this. The support person thought this was quite unusual. If the problem continues he suggested repeating Guided Setup two more times. The first time entering a different zip code with cable as the source. The second time entering my true zip code with antenna as the source. We will see what happens.

Same thing on my other Sony TV w/TVGOS so my guess it's truly dead
Just curious for anyone with 8 day TVGOS, did you start losing listings 8 days ago or are you just missing the 8th day today and it will take 8 days to totally lose your guide info? Since my TVs are only 24hrs I'm assuming the listings just ended yesterday.....

TPT to be off the air tonight for maintenance (saw it as a popup on a program last night on the MN channel but is also on front page of tpt.org)

This Thursday night, starting at 11 p.m., we will be performing maintenance on our tower and some viewers will lose their signals to all of tpt's channels.

This outage will affect the over-the-air signal, satellite viewers and some cable viewers.

We will be working on the tower through the night and it should take no longer than 8 hours with the signal being restored by 7 a.m. Friday.

We apologize for any inconvenience and expect to have the service at full strength as soon as possible.

Does anybody happen to know what the plans are for KMSP or KARE on Mobile DTV? Both 9 and 11 show encrypted on the Elgato device.

They are running Dyle Mobile TV. You need a Dyle device to see them.

I am not sure if you caught my post on another sub-forum here, but I have noticed that there is BOTH an app for My DTV and Eye TV. It looks like one is for:

Mobile 500 Alliance (My DTV), the other for

Dyle (Eye TV)


It looks like since I live in the Minneapolis Saint Paul DMA with BOTH Mobile 500 Alliance Channels and Dyle Channels, I would need TWO different devices and a different app for each device!

Unless they've artificially restricted it for some reason, I don't see why the same hardware shouldn't work with both pieces of software. But that's me.

I have been wondering that same thing. If nothing else, I would think that the device set up for Dyle should work on the Mobile 500 Alliance channels. Trip, is my market unique in having both Mobile 500 Alliance Channels and Dyle or is this whole thing so new yet that it is just too soon to tell? If I can get my wife's iPad Mini away from her, I want to try that other app with the existing My DTV receiver.

No, many markets will have both. Of course, the Mobile 500 channels are just standard unencrypted channels at this point, so there's no reason the Dyle software shouldn't be able to see them.

I received another e-mail from Dyle and they maintain that their tuner will decode ALL channels, BOTH Dyle Channels AND Mobile 500 Alliance Channels.

Not strctly OTA-related, but those getting local channels via unencrypted QAM tuners will want to read about the FCC's new rulings regarding QAM availability

These customers will continue to have access to all Basic Cable channels – including HD broadcast stations on our lineup. We will have an HD DTA solution in place before any change is implemented that could potentially impact their service, and will communicate with customers as to its availability. No timeframe has yet been determined.

The communication that was originally sent to customers addressed those subscribers using TVs with older-style analog tuners. These customers will indeed lose access to the Basic Cable tier if they don’t have a DTA connected to their television prior to the digital-only transition date.

As I posted in the cable thread when I hooked up a couple HDTV's for my sister at a new place (that has lifeline cable) some of the analog channels (the national ones) it has a scroll across the top of the screen about something like "Due to Comcast's digital enhancement you will soon need a digital receiver to view this channel on all packages" If I remember right it was
18 QVC
19 HSN
21 CSPAN
22 WGN-America

But not on any of the locals, CNN (3), TBS (7) or the public access (14,15,16).

Anyone notice crackling from the center channel on WCCO? I thought I had a speaker issue until I swapped it out and noticed it was only this channel. Noticed it last week and confirmed on tonight's dvr programs.

There was one time during Elementary were I heard a five second spot of crackling in my center speaker and I even rewound it a couple of times to listen to it again. I wasn’t sure what it was, and wrote it off as a soundtrack problem. I watched all of Thursday’s night shows and that was the only time I notice any crackling.

I have the crossover on my AV receiver set to 100 Hz, so maybe the crackling is in a lower frequency range and is not being set to my center speaker.

Elementary was one show where I noticed but have many episodes built up on dvr so it was from weeks ago. I did notice it on this week's Big Bang Theory. It definitely seems to be in the tweeter range.

I confirmed I can hear it on another TV via the TV speakers so something in the signal.  Was just trying to get a couple more data points before trying to contact the station.  I did not notice it on the local news.

For those that are interested in ATSC-M/H in this market, I did get this information recently:

".....We don't currently have firm plans for mobile DTV on our broadcast channel but there has been some discussion of including some of our programming as a mobile sub-channel on one of the other stations currently providing mobile services. I do believe that we will likely do one or the other sometime this year.

For our own mobile channel we will need to replace our current DTV encoding equipment and procure the additional mobile encoding as well. For a mobile sub on another channel we will need to establish a signal path to that station an set up some switching gear to deal with programming that is not currently licensed for mobile distribution (NFL and some syndication). Either of these options will take several months of prep time. I am hopeful that we might move forward before the fall programming season....."

Personally, it will be interesting to see if they go with:

-Dyle TV, or

-Mobile 500 Alliance


I will have to do some checking. I don't know if any CBS affiliates have gone with Mobile DTV yet. In fact, are ANY CBS affiliates doing sub-channels on regular ATSC?

CBS has been quietly testing Syncbak as an alternative to Mobile DTV at its O&Os in New York and Los Angeles. It's basically an internet streaming app rather than something that makes use of the OTA signal. If WCCO does anything with mobile this year, I would probably look for this to be rolled out rather than Mobile DTV.

As for ATSC subchannels, I assume you mean O&Os and not affiliates, since many CBS affiliates have subchannels. A "CBS Plus" subchannel has launched so far on the O&Os in New York (WCBS) and Philadelphia (KYW) and I believe it will soon launch, or perhaps already has, in Los Angeles (KCBS).
