I thought KTCI was going to move from RF channel 16 (482 MHz) to 26 (542 MHz).

Was I misinformed, or are they going to do it at some other time?

No, 26 did not work out. They got in a "fight" with WDSE out of Duluth on which channel to use and it looks like they got paid to RF channel 23. They will still be able to use the KMSP-DT-26 antenna and feedline, but will need to retool on the ground. They will be running nearly 700kW though and should match or slightly exceed KTCA-DTs coverage!

Hate to say it but I think they ARE currently on 26 till August 12, then switch to 23 and full power @700kW...can't wait as they are at the limit of detection and just as low a signal strength as Channels 41-1,2,3,4.

KTCI-DT is still on 16.

I did some scans this morning before leaving town for a week. I don't recall an analog channel 25 in this market in the past, although I did not follow all of the low power stations either. Can somebody bring me up to speed on this? I think there was 25.1 through 25.5. Is this all TBN?

Yes it is all TBN stations and programing, there are 5 subs currently: JCTV, TCC, SOAC, Enlace, and of course the TBN feed....

Correct, I personally just verified that NOTHING has changed with KTCI-DT.

That is odd, yep, KTCI is still 16, yet FCC tables state they are on 26, I know it's semantics as both have lousy low power signals and I only get about 12-15% on main floor antenna. Can't wait for them to go to 23 and high power.

They were licensed to take over RF 26, but those plans changed with WHWC complaining about interference and asking them to lower power, then TPT decided that RF 38 would work, but WDSE has a complete 38 rig that is installed, so they offered to pay TPT money if they would reconsider RF 23 instead... The FCC approved it and they will run 700kW, once all the gear is installed...

Yep, I got that from previous posts, just interesting that the FCC would list them on their official post-transition list as on Channel 26...oh I see how it certainly made more sense to stay on 16.

Those lists were generated a while back, if you look in other markets, lots of stuff is off, KXLT is shown at 1MW, instead of 220kW for example....

Getting all 5 sub-channels BUT NO SOUND...really eerie, wonderful picture and not a bit of sound, actually showed up about a week before switch over when one of my kids accidentally hit the scan button, nice clear picture and no sound and I am clueless why...but have no desire to see Channel 25.1-5

Benny Hinn is more funny to watch without sound

There was a posting on another forum that K25IA is apparently set up with some audio standard that can't he heard on most DTV boxes. Probably a mistake.

The station was 150kW on analog channel 25 for the last few years (maximum power for low-power TV analog). Prior to that, it had been at a lower power on channel 58 since the `80s. (TBN's website still lists them as channel 58.)

The digital is at 15kW, and in Red Wing, with a good site and a decent antenna without pre-amp on RG-59, I am getting 1dBm in TSreader... (pretty decent in my opinion for 50 miles out and 10 miles outside the 51dBu service contour)

Oh, I can say for sure there was sound on the first two subs, but I was using my computer with VLC to play it back.... (computer codecs can take a lot more then the highly tightened CECBs for formats)
Also wanted to post that KMSP must have filed to change their power levels VERY recently, as the FCC database now shows 30kW ERP via the 35kW that they were originally planning to run... The service contour data has not even been rendered, so I would think it has been less then a week since it was filed... (that plus that fact that I have been watching the FCC database, while researching stuff for my blog)

gjvrieze sent me data for K25IA-D last night. Looking at it, it's very obvious to me why you're hearing no sound. They have all the subchannels set up with MPEG-2 audio, which is NOT in the ATSC spec. They're supposed to be sending out AC3 audio.

Some tuners can handle MPEG-2 audio, but others cannot.

MPEG-2 Audio? Seriously, I didn't even know you could even do that on DTV. I thought it was AC-3 only (or AC-3/PCM only).
You can, it just doesn't work very well.

Is anyone having trouble with OTA digital channels 5 & 9? Two nights ago I lost 5 but it showed good signal strength. Last night I lost 9 as well but now they both show zero signal strength. I've changed nothing and for the last year, everything has been working perfectly.

I think your getting un-encrypted QAM off of basic cable. ASTC (over the air) channels can only have numbers 99 and below. The fact that you have cable channels also shows that you have cable.

Yes, and most cable providers have been asked and have complied with remapping the local channels to the same mappings as OTA would have.

Did you have problems with KARE, channel 11-1 before the shutdown? KSTP took over KARE's DT transmitter and runs the same power as KARE, so if you got KARE-DT before the 12th, you should get KSTP-DT-35... As to KMSP, there have been a few reports of people who cannot get them. I tested at 50 miles out last night and could not see a difference in the now 1 million watt KSTC-DT via KMSP-DT-9. But this place I tested, had a proper outdoor VHF/UHF antenna system.
Now KMSP 9.1 & to a lesser degree 9.2 is having major audio issues...9.1 absolutely no sound, 9.2 every couple minutes loses it too. Hmmm teething pain with the new transmitter?
KMSP won't come up for me. I've scanned and rescanned a bunch of times (use an HDHomerun device with Mythtv). It's gone.

I'm in wester suburbs, worked like a charm until the frequency change. What is the actual frequency they are on now (i.e. like 201000000 where KARE-11 is)? Is KMSP supposed to be at 189000000? (I've been using the HDHomerun Config utility to scan as well).

Thanks!

channels 5 & 9 OTA have dropped for us too. location is stillwater. always had strong locals across the board in the past. thankfully they still come in through direcTV...

Someone posted on my blog, that KMSP and KARE are currently running 19kW not 30kW and 27.1kW (respectively)
If you have a weak signal, I have seen the SD sub hold up better with signal dropouts, it does not make sense, with the way that a digital signal is sent out, but I have seen the same thing.

If you got KARE-DT before Friday, you need a rescan. KSTP (channel 5 is on KARE's DT-35 gear right now, at the same power as KARE was)
Sometimes, the converter boxes and other tuners will not clear the old channel data out. In that case, unhook the antenna to the box, do a complete rescan (should have 0 channels), then hook the antenna back up and rescan again. Give that a try and see how it goes...
