I agree with Todd.

All we need is one.

10-1 HD PQ would look better without it. Im all for that.

Sounds like you need a new generation USDTV reciever if you cant pick up 3-2 radar.

I agree with you Bill. There is not much bandwidth needed for a slow scan radar with only a few pixels changing. Not much improvement to 10-1 would result by dropping 10-3.

If you are really looking to improve HD bandwidth available to 10-1 you should get rid of the duplicated SD transmission of 10-2. Just why is WAVY justifying carrying both a HD-upconvert 1080i and a direct 480i transmission of the the same exact programming? Couldn't a distant cable company simply get its signal by down-converting 10-1? My Voom box does that quite well from its extra S-Video output -- that I use on another SDTV in my house. WAVY is the only one now still doing this duplication except WB 33 -- and I presume they will stop duplicating once their HD is solid, and they move it to 33-1 (I hope).

I believe they duplicate so people who made poor purchase decisions can distort (Stretch) to widescreen

Anything would help. I wonder if Les would mind letting us know the current bandwidth used for each channel?

I wish they could, but some of the stuff on 10-1 is HD and formatted for 16x9, not 4x3. I doubt that would work too well on the other end. It's a shame these cable companies can't get the signal another way...

Great job Les

This game looked good, but Atlanta/Vick didn't! The Redskins/Giants game looks great! It seems like all of the games from FexEx Field look spectacular!

Maybe some people just don't want to look at a 4:3 1080i with bars on 75 percent of 10-1 programming. The only time I watch 10-1 is when they have an actual HD program on. 10-2 stretched is bad but better than bars.

Why don't you just view the DirecTV feed of channel 10 instead, like I usually do? That and 10-2 are roughly the same quality...

I don't know most times I'd swear the stretched 10-2 was better than directv channel 10. Directv must be compressing the locals to the max they can.

I get the impression from many posts on various sites and from people I talk to that have the "large" size receivers is the present technology even if all bandwith were devoted the picture quality would still have problems. Not as many but not much different than in the analog days as the picture tubes got larger, the PQ went down.

I think many of us have expectations that technology today can't sastisfy. Maybe in the future......

Thanks, Brian

Yeah they were advertising it in HD...and while we're on the subject, what is ABC's enhanced tv they were also advertising in their logo during the game??

As much as I don't like the Redskins, I usually end up watching their games b/c my wife loves them and I would agree that I have not seen a bad Redskins game at FedEx in HD.
Of course, I think that picture looks better when the Deadskins are on the short end of the scoreboard, but that's another story

My signal is showing a solid 90% on channel 10-1, but I'm getting audio and video hiccups briefly here and there. Is this normal? I'm watching Fear Factor currently. Seems to have subsided as I write this.

Dale

nvm it's back

MNF is with background audio but no commentator or center channel. MNF is supposed to be DD5.1 but what I am getting is two channel Pro Logic and no center channel. I know they were working on audio upgrades, is this the problem or was it network problems. Not bothered by it since it is more like being there, all the sounds but no commentary.

Same here watching Las Vegas. A solid 85 on the signal meter and I never lose a lock on the channel but I'm getting frequent break-ups in audio and video. This sin't "normal".

Dale

Looks like they fixed it with 5:35 left in 1st quarter

ABC just went to 4:3 SD in the 4th quarter? wtf?

WTKR-DT

two things....

1) Beginning 12/13/04 CSI:Miami will be broadcast in 5.1 DD

2) Early next week WTKR-DT will change its PID numbers per FCC requirement. This should not effect receiving WTKR-DT, but if you have problems, a channel rescan should correct it.

Hey all,

We changed the PSIP Packet I.D. (PID) numbers on WGNT-DT 27-1 today. If you have problems just have your tuner re-scan for channels and it should pick it right up.

HALF & HALF MONDAY, 8:30-9:00PM, ET/PT
GIRLFRIENDS MONDAY, 9:00-9:30PM, ET/PT
SECOND TIME AROUND MONDAY, 9:30-10:00PM, ET/PT
VERONICA MARS TUESDAY, 9:00-10:00PM, ET/PT

This is a late report, but the lip sync on 33-2 (WB HD) was noticeably off Wednesday night during Smallville.
Has 33 upped its power output yet?
Looks Like Fox took a hit. I lost OTA and D* and OTA came back 4:3 and SD it looks like.

Lip synch has been a chronic problem on 33.2 for months now. I used to mention it every week but it became apparent that nothing was being done so I just don't watch it anymore.
