Charles Stutsman
WAVY/WVBT
Senior Transmitter Engineer CSTE 8VSB CBNT
300 Wavy Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704

We should not have to do anything. WAVY (Lintv) knows they have this problem that has existed off and on for months now. It's outrageous that this has been allowed to continue this long and for it to effect the Big Game of the year. They can't blame it on Directv solely as I saw postings that on some cable systems it was happening there also.

What is all the (DSTE *8VSB CDNT) behind his "Senior Transmitter Engineer"? A simple "engineer" would be sufficient to identify his position.

I don't recall Les Garrenton ever flaunting his position. Perhaps a little more attention to the "transmitter" would be in order.

Thanks, my email has been sent.

If WAVY has known about this and has ignored it for several months, that is inexcusable.

I had audio issues on WTKR-HD and WVEC-HD and both of those stations worked with me to fix the situation (although WVEC was more difficult to convince that they had an issue). I had a running email with the engineer at WTKR who quickly figured this out and followed up with me after the fix was in place.

Superbowl PQ was better than any other NBC football game this year but there were still some moment where the picture was very soft. Pixellation was apparant throughout the game both OTA and Cox cable.

I can get over the softness of the video, the pixelation is what bothers me. It makes certain points of the game not fun to watch.

It is not Charles' fault, sometimes you have to do what the corporation says, and tow the line, no matter how you think it should be. (And now Les is the corporate engineer if I remember right)
Those letters are certifications, hard earned, and he has a right to be proud of them. (No, I do not work at WAVY)

Is the audio out of sync for anybody else on WVBT HD? Noticed it on recording of House last night and Glee tonight.

Watched House yesterday with no issues...

Thanks for the info. Were you using 5.1 audio or stereo audio? Assuming that could make a difference.

The 4pm news cast on WTKR ch 503 on Fios was out of sync today using the internal TV speakers.

Not sure if anyone will see this but it looks like another digital TV signal will be coming on the air soon. According to this FCC filing, WJHJ-LD/Newport News will sign-on UHF39 within the next 30 days with a signal coming from the West Norfolk section of Portsmouth...

Thanks for the info

I've got a question about DTV reception in northeastern North Carolina. I have an aunt that lives in Edenton, and she really wants to get rid of her monthly satellite bill. She only watches the local broadcast channels on a regular basis. I checked AntennaWeb, which shows only two signals reaching her in Edenton, WUND-DT and WSKY-DT. I happened to have a converter box and a small RCA wall-type antenna, and I tried these at her house. Sure enough, I picked up the signals that AntennaWeb mentioned. However, I also picked up weak signals from the CBS, MY Network, and NBC affiliates in Hampton Roads. I'm wondering if she gets a larger aerial antenna whether reception will improve. AntennaWeb says no, but I'm not so sure. Does anybody on the board live near Edenton? Did you have any success getting the digital OTA signals from the Hampton Roads stations with an aerial antenna?

I would very much think so... AntennaWeb - Edenton, NC...

Thanks, Robert. My aunt lives near downtown Edenton, but when I entered her physical street address, AntennaWeb gave me just two stations. It's funny that a simple adjustment in the search terms produces a drastically different result.

Well, she could live in a "valley."
Nope, it's definitely not that. Like most of eastern North Carolina, it's as flat as a pancake.

Plug the location into TVFool.com instead of Antennaweb. Antennaweb is extremely conservative.

Appears that Sinclair has dropped The Cool TV, is that so? I've noticed no 33-2 on WTVZ this week as well as nothing in Richmond. Also, Baltimore outlet has no programming. Also visited web site that shows only a handful of stations nationwide now with closest listings in CT, MA and OH. Any insight as to what's up? I wasn't a hardcore viewer but I liked watching iy occaisionally, especially when I could catch the old classic videos.

All Sinclair stations dropped The CoolTV weeks ago. I lost it on WMYV Winston-Salem and WRDC Raleigh-Durham.

More like almost two months ago (Sep 1st).

WVBT along with the rest of the Hampton Roads stations have been for Obama all along.
