S or Composite vs. Demodulator

Thread Starter
I have an MC-1 that I am using in my home theater, and it has two outputs for Zone two that can be run off of either "S" or composite connections for video and rca connections for audio (one output has controllable volume and one doesn't). I want to use the zone 2 connection to run to two other locations in my house, one exclusively for video applications and the other for mostly video applications.

One run would probably be about 30-50 feet and the other 50-75 feet. The shorter run is to a 31" TV and the longer to a 19".

I have seen a lot of people suggesting demodulators in this forum, but I am suspicious of the demodulator solution and am worried about signal degradation. I know that if I use an "S" run I could use the Camelot powered s video cable solution at a cost of about $250. I am not sure about issues that might be generated by going composite.

Are there problems like signal loss that I am missing? Why isn't it simpler just to do three runs (one video, two audio) for the two connections, rather than going the demodulator route?

Any input would be appreciated.

Hmm.. Do you need a stereo modulator? If so you are looking at quite a bit more money.

I assume that you could run some good quality s-video (or a pair of composit video feeds converted to and from s vide) and a pair of rca's this distance with no problems. I ran some excelerator cable (fairly decent rca's w/ twist on ends) about 75 feet once with good luck.

I would'd worry about a 35 foot s-video run, just use good cable.

I agree.

Using a good coaxial cable, you can run YC or composite video fifty feet easy without any problems.
