Whole House Audio Question

Getting ready to do the walk through with my electrician. I can't figure out if I should put the speakers in the ceiling or on a wall?

Anyone here been through this and can share their experience? What did you like and what did you wish you had done differently? I'm currently looking at a Kustom amp and selector/volume control. I haven't even looked at speakers yet (recomends?).

Thanks

I put mine in the walls, just because it was much easier, since I was doing this after the house was built. I'm happy with the results, but when we build our new house, I'm probably going to opt for ceiling. Not sure that I have a good reason for that though.

I would say walls unless you are talking rear surrounds.
I added wiring for 5 channel surround in the kitchen and bdroom also.
It's cheap and easy to do when the walls are down...a real pain later.
ps just bought 2 inwall $200 speakers from ubid for $28. you might want to check it out

Here's some good advice learned too late by many....

Do a run to both places no matter which you choose.

Buy a bag of cheap magnets. And each place you terminate a
non-used line, and hotglue the magnet
on the side of the stud where the wire is--so it
will lie against the walboard once its on.
For ad extra few bucks and $8 in magnets, a compass will lead the
way in the future!!!

A good way to mark all sorts of things
behind walls--

And for Pete's sake, before you
board the walls, do a SLOW walkthrough
of the whole house with a videocamera.

Worth the price of gold in the future!!

Good Luck

(ps. I went with the ceiling)

Without knowing the room layout or use it's impossible to say which would be best.

If the main use for the system is music, and there will be constant movement in the room I believe in-ceiling speakers work better.
If you have seating facing the wall where the speakers would mounted, this could work.

You should take a look at the Russound CA6.4L system for distribution.
See it at http://www.russound.com/catalog/item.lasso?item=CA64L
I am in the middle of a project using two CA6.4L sytems and two AudioRequest ARQ1-30's

I hope this might be of service.
