I have, and yes it can help. I don't think (however can't confirm) that it can achieve the calibration that pro ISF'ers can, but if you take your time, and follow the DVD step by step, yes, it can make a big difference.

New to the group. Hello all. I have sony 4:3 HD ready TV and newly purchased Samsung SIR-T451.

Has anyone been able to get unencrypted or unscrambled QAM HDTV channels from WOW (wide open west) (W.O.W.)? I am able to tune into all the locals with
a radio shack VHF/UHF antenna but not with my basic cable feed. The tuner adds 10 or 11 channels during it's STD Cable scan but there is no video or audio signal after I tune to the channel. I would greatly appreciate others listing their experiences with WOW and QAM capable STB.

I should say that I have basic cable service and I live in Rochester Hills.

Thanks for the replies...

Justin

Anyone who has Brighthouse in Livonia using the lastest version of the Motorola DVR box that has HDMI, etc.?
I just wanted to take a moment to publicly thank Comcast for getting to work and finally completing the upgrade to the digital simulcast thus allowing former AT&T cable customers to have a dual tuner DVR. Oh wait that has not happened yet. I remember last spring when I was forced to choose between watching NBA playoffs in HD or CSI thinking to myself "Well this wont be a problem next year". Oh wait it still is even though we were told the upgrade would be completed by June. So here we are in September with a new TV season ahead of us and still no dual tuner DVR. I just red about FiOS Verizons new fiber optic cable TV system in Keller Tx. It sounds great but we still have a cable system from 30 years ago. But hey why should I complain I only pay $134.00 a month for cable and internet.

Shame on you Comcast.

Is ER in SD for everyone?
ER is SD due to storm warnings. I think the storm took out WEYI in Flint, no signal analog or digital. WILX Lansing was HD.

It flipped to HD at some point in progress.

Same here. ESPN HD 202 has been bad lately.

We just bought our first HDTV, and I am pretty impressed with the reception so far. It was a cheapie 26" Inignia widescreen, but I figured we might as well go digital with this purchase. IT was really neat seeing the clear reception during the Thursday night storms! We have previously received our locals via rabbit ears and analog channels.

I am getting all the Detroit stations just fine. My scanned channels include the two Flint channels (28 analog) that sometimes come in, and sometimes do not, and the same for Fox Toledo (don't recall the channels). I'm using a UHV/VHF/HDTV set of rabbit ears, picked up from Wal-Mart for Less than $30, I think. In past years I recall being able to watch U-M basketball games on chanel 28 that were not otherwise viewable. Would a better antenna allow me better acces ot channel 28 in Flint? I'm located between Wixom and MIlford, just north of I-96.

Thanks.

I was just wondering if anyone is having an audio-sync program with ABC-HD for COMCAST. I live in the Mt. Clemens area. The premiere episode of LOST for S2 was out of sync for the audio, it was like watching Godzilla. I also noticed this for Desperate Housewives...although, I didn't watch it, I wanted to compare.

I called Comcast and they have no issues on their end, supposedly. However, the onyl problems I have are with ABC-HD...but the commercials are in-sync and all my other HD stations are fine.

I'm extremely frustrated with them
That's too funny. I'm watching Grey's Anatomy and was thinking the same thing. This show isn't as bad as Lost or DH but there is some major out of sync errors on ABC. Anyone we can call? It's starting to drive me nuts too
post #1035 of 11755
Glad it's just not me then....Comcast were real pricks about it too. I noticed Al Michaels and John MAdden way out of sync too on MNF. I guess I will call customer support tomorrow again. Also, ESPN was dropping the audio every 2 seconds....I could not watch Monday Night Countdown to save my life.
Has anyone else been experiencing the audio being out of sync for ABC-HD. I have Comcast in Mt. Clemens, MI area. I noticed it last week watching LOST, and it's been ongoing. Monday Night Football was out of sync also. John Madden looked like someone from Tokyo in a Godzilla film.

I've called Comcast and they pretty much said they can do nothing, but will send a person out to check it. That won't do that much good, since it's only when TRUE HD programming is on (between 8-11pm). The commercials are fine though, perfectly in sync.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem?

I'm watching MNF over the air, and there seems to be a slight sync problem with it, so Comcast may not be to blame.

I watch WXYZ-DT OTA, and I've noticed some audio sync problems this week, too. It's not real severe, but noticeable.
OTA WXYZ-DT is fine for me tonight.
Hmmm, I wonder if its Comcast or just a bad signal. It's been over a week now. It's not horribly bad, but noticeable enough to annoy me, and it really anooys my wife, so we had to watch LOST on standard def....yuck.
Lost and DH were out of sync for me too. i did not watch lost till yesterday so i thought it was a DVR issue.

Great work Comacast. The dish is looking good again.
It's not "Comacast's" fault. As rreini said, this is also occasionally being seen on some OTA rx in Detroit. I'm not sure it's possible for the cableco to cause an audio sync problem on a DT broadcast, even if they wanted to.

So, what can we do to FIX this issue? Would it correct itself if I switched from OPTICAL to RCA cables?

I have Comcast coming out this weekend, but they will do nothing more than likely.

Call WXYZ, and leave a message for the engineering department.

I'll let my contacts know.

Probably get more stable reception across the board with an outdoor directional antenna. You should also look into an antenna rotor, so you can orient the antenna for the different TV station locations; Flint, Toledo & Detroit (Southfield).
I too was watching Grey's Anatomy on ABC Sunday night with my built-in tuner and OTA antenna, and the lip sync issue was driving me crazy. This verifies that the root cause lies within WXYZ and/or the ABC network feed itself, and not a Comcast issue.

I was also noticing intermittent signal dropouts, but that is probably because I'm using an indoor antenna. Thanks for the post, Ken. I'll probably install a directional antenna with rotor in my attic when I get the basement home theater going. For now, I'll live with the set top antenna, although I wonder if there are better versions of those. The one I have is a Philips with 50dB amplification (adjustable). I notice the Flint signal is iffy - sometimes it comes in fine with no drops, other times I only get screen shots.
I left a message for their engineering department to call me back. If they tell me I'm crazy I'm going to direct them to this thread. Every show I've watch on WXYZ this past week has been out of sync. I know it's not a Comcast issue as all my other shows and channels are working fine.
Hopefully they resolve this soon....I have Comcast coming out because they "insisted", but I may just cancel it...since it lies with ABC/WXYZ
post #1050 of 11755
Is anyone else's ESPN-HD having audio issues? Mine keeps breaking up....Currenty during WSOP. Not a big deal, but annoying, especially if they don't correct this soon.

Hmm, also seems like 5.1 is not working on any channels....weird. I know it's working on ym receiver since my XBOX and DVD works.
