Comcast will add HD channels for Olympic Basketball and Olympic Soccer on channels 984 and 985, across their Michigan systems. They should show up in the next few days. Brighthouse is doing the same on 402 and 403. 401 is Brighthouse's 3D Olympics channel.

Comcast's Xfinity3D channel 333 has been designated for Olympics 3D coverage as well.

Love to know what the cost-per-viewer is for 3D Olympics coverage.

Ion is broadcasting from Southfield as of today. There's a scrawl on the screen. Question, 31 is still up and running so when they shut that channel down and Ion is only coming off of WKBD tower 50 will Ion be 50.1 and CW 14.1? Because right now if I punch in 50 it goes to CW

As far as I know, the Lyndon Twp. channel 31 transmitter will eventually leave the air. They probably could (and should) apply to reduce the power of channel 31 to 15kW so they can use it as a fill-in translator, but I have not seen any application to that effect.

When the transition is complete, WPXD will be known as channel 31, and still displayed as channel 31 on your TV set, even though they will be transmitting on the channel 50 bandwidth (686-692 Mhz), whilst WKBD will continue to be known as Channel 50 though they will continue to transmit on the channel 14 bandwidth (470-476 MHz)

You get CW when you punch "50" on your remote because your TV set has "learned" that WKBD is on RF channel 14. When you punch "50", your TV "knows" to go to channel 14 to get WKBD, and displays their (CW) programming, and their virtual channel 50.

When WPXD moves to RF 50, you will need to do a new channel scan if you wish to watch the Ion channels.

Gotta be a typo or two somewhere in there...

Curious.. has any station switched from their previous (analog) "identity" to that of their new actual position?

Oddest branding I know of is WWSB in Sarasota. It transmits on 24, uses virtual channel 40 (its former analog position) but brands itself as "ABC 7" since that's where most of the area cable systems put it.

WLAJ out of Lansing transmits on RF51, uses virtual channel 53 and brands itself ABC 3.

I think the FOX station out of Cadillac up north was on analog 33 and branded FOX 33. They went digital on RF32 and switched branding to FOX 32....

Correct, from what Wiki says. That's one!

lots of Big 3 stations (Fox is exempt from this) that are on UHF (their old analog spot) usually use the cable designation.

Ah, Trip, but "stations not mapping" does not necessarily mean they've changed identities. Take KFVE. They're mapping to 9-1 on your list, but they still call themselves K-5. Others on your list have switched.

I was looking for stations such as the Cadillac one, which switched identities from Fox 33 to Fox 32. Graphics, advertising, everything.

For Bright House Michigan customers, the July channel change notice was in my local paper this morning. Here are the changes:

"Beginning on or after August 1, the following channels will launch on the SDV system:

Aspire (Digital Variety, ch 148)
Gospel Music Channel (Digital Variety, ch 149)
Gospel Music Channel HD (Digital Variety, ch 349)
Pac 12 National (Sports Pass, ch 571)
Pac 12 National HD (Sports Pass, ch 671)"

Also of note, the Fox News carriage agreement expires July 31, with negotiations pending.

These nets remain on month-to-month arrangements:

BBC America, Channel One Russia, Cooking Channel, Current TV, DIY, all the Encore networks, Filipino Channel, Food Network, GSN, GolTV, IndiePlex, MC, NHL Network, NHL Center Ice, Ovation, RetroPlex, Sprout, all the Starz nets, This TV, TV Japan and Youtoo.

Has anyone found when the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies will be on either Comcast CBC (or CBET) or BBC America? For some odd reason I can't find the listing.

I understand it will be on NBC and maybe on one or more of the special channels that Comcast has set up, but for actual LIVE coverage, nothing much beats the Windsor channels. They pretty much run live without much interference or interruptions. Great coverage.

Please let me know as the official schedule is that they will start at 4pm EST, but of course NBC won't have it shown until 7:30 or so.

Thanks

According to the guide on my Tivo, CBETDT (9-1) has no olympics scheduled for Friday PM.

I didn't see any listed Saturday either.

I doubt BBC America can carry it. NBC has exclusive rights.

CTV has the Canadian Olympic rights, not CBC. The opening ceremonies air on CTV at 4pm.

There were some sites proclaiming they'd stream it, but as I look over them, the links have all been removed. NBC won't stream it, either. So, it's primetime or nothing here in the states. Though I'm sure some odd site, somewhere, will bootleg it.

So it's save for me to go ahead and aim my 4221 straight to Southfield now? Currently it slightly pointed to Ann Arbour to get Ion.
Ion has been on and off the RF50 frequency a couple of times, so who knows if it is "safe" but they have been on RF50 for two whole days (that I've noticed) with programming. (I don't have much antenna and couldn't receive the Ann Arbor location).

You're doing better than me. I can't check OTA for a while. I pulled the ATSC card out of the computer and am running a Ceton Infinitv4 CableCard PCe tuner for a while. Picky card. Difficult to set up. Worked for 3 days. Whole computer's having issues, now. Ceton says it's unrelated. We'll see. But I digress....

Absolutely right you are, I meant the channel 50 bandwiidth.

This morning I noted that they are back on RF channel 50, but with a FAR weaker signal than they had back around February 1st - If it does not improve, I'll lose Ion OTA.
All three streams from the Chelsea RF 31 transmitter are showing a warning banner.

ION on RF50 is permanent....they will be shutting down RF31 soon!
CTV's CKCO analog 42 has the Olympic opening ceremonies on LIVE....NBC tape delays everything until primetime - LAME!!!! Wish CKCO was broadcasting in digital HD.....

Great news! NBC's done OK, but it will be nice to have the Canadian perspective again.

The article says the current consortium basically punted, since they weren't making money on this contract, and CBC can structure it differently...and expects to break even.

Bell/Rogers also is uncertain since it's not known if the NHL players wil be there in 2014. CBC says Canadians like all hockey.

I just noticed that the TorStar typoed on "olympics" in the URL. biggrin.gif

ION 31 on RF31 out of Chelsea, is about ready to shut down....running color bars and ticker 24/7....ION on RF50 out of Southfield has a great signal!
Not a good signal in Temperance, much weaker than Chelsea 31 was, usually unable to decode, in fact, in less often than WDWO 18 or WUDT 23.

I suspect they are not using the same directional pattern they had been using 1/31-2/2.

comcast question, : What channel will the new Pac-12 network be on, will there be an HD version?
It launches 8/15

Here's all I know..

- It will be available around here on Comcast, in the 'Sports Entertainment Package' for extra cost along with the other out-of-market RSN's, probably August 15th.
- There is an HD version, but none of the other OOM RSN's Comcast carries are HD, so I wouldn't expect Pac12 in HD either.
- The channel will be available on Brighthouse. Again, I don't know if it'll be HD, but I should see it by Wed.
