Detroit, MI - HDTV - Page 381

Dave..

Sorry about that. I'm still debating moving the HD Radio posts to that forum, but we all chat about anything here as do most local sections, so I'll leave it up to everyone else.

Windows Media Center doesn't get guide information from PSIP. If I understand you, correctly, that is. You may need to go into guide settings, select the channel, edit channel and force it to the correct listings. Let me know if you can't find any of that and I'll write down all the steps in the correct order. Pulled my OTA card from my computer to put in a Ceton InfiniTV4, so it's hard for me to check OTA things. Of course, about two weeks after I do that, BHN slaps "copy once" on everything but local broadcast, pretty much defeating the whole reason I got the thing. Apparently, I'm the first in the Livonia system to have a CableCard hooked to something other than a TiVo. But I digress...

My vote is to allow all things Metro Detroit here

This is an active thread with many knowledgable persons on all sorts of subjects

Then I'll leave it unless it's detrimental to the metro Detroit "community." Advantage of having a home "mod" here. wink.gif

As a long-time lurker here, I don't mind the thread drift either. You learn some interesting things that way sometimes. smile.gif

Does anyone have experience with antenna's for both TV and HD Radio in the 48418 area code? I am curious to see what type of antenna i need for both. I am also curious to see what type of equipment you are using for HD Radio

Dr Don -

Thanks for the reply. I, too, have no problem with the local radio stuff here. I'm learning a lot from it.

Re: TVO - Turns out it was a loss of signal at the dongle. Complete loss, not just a weak signal!
Neither WMC nor nPVR could find enough signal to put 32 in the scan even though all the other Detroit/Windsor OTA came in just fine (figure that one out!).

BTW, TitanTV can't even get the TVO guide listings correct!

Other strange things have been happening around here - My Comcast DVR puts closed captions on all non-HD channels even though CC is turned off. Only the non-HD, figure that one out. Comcast insisted that my HDTV was adding the captions. I finally talked them into sending a new box.

Thanks again for your help,

Dave

And it shows. A certain other cluster constantly has issues with the analog delay not quite matching the digital signal, leading to a choppy transition. You never hear issues like that on the CBS stations.

I apologize up front, as I tried several searches, but ended up with pages and pages of listings going back to 2003. I'm currently using a Motorola DCH3416. I've clearly had this for a while, and it's well past time to upgrade the box. However, I have been restricted from upgrading it because my fiancee says she will never speak to me again if I lose the two concerts I have recorded on it that are not available in HD via any other format. Which clearly remains a major concern.

Along with the auto setting for resolution, which I need, I believe I heard that larger storage was also available. So, what is the top box Comcast is making available here?

The Gramphone is gone, but you can check out Paulson's, not to be confused with Paul's TV. Paulson's is located on Halstead and w. 12 mile road. Very nice high end store.

Welcome to AVS and our humble little Detroit thread.

Just read on Michiguide that WDIV will have a new sub-channel called "Movies!".
I wonder if it will replace "ThisTV" or if it'll be an additional channel.

The new subchannel is going to be aired on Fox O&Os so its going to be on WJBK 2.2. Nothing is going to change to This TV on WDIV.

Even better!
I don't know how I got WDIV from all that ?!?

Will 2.2 be 480i video
2.0 audio?

Any Detroit -2/3 do more than 480i/2.0?

All of our properties are posting some of the best numbers we've had since I got back. Listenership in our cluster has been rock steady if not gaining. Source?

You mean FM music having "tinny sound", extra static on AM, short playlists, unseasoned jocks (because the expierenced jocks were too expensive) and sped up music are signs that things are fine? I have to admit that your cluster is pretty good (my wife loves your station), but having "rock steady" numbers in a sea of medicority isn't really something to brag about. Then you have Clear Channel trying to figure out how pay off $10 billion worth of debt. Yes, I'd say the radio biz isn't anywhere near as good as it was even as late as the 90's.

When I was younger, I used to listen to the radio at home hear music I didn't own or never heard before. Now I have to listen to Pandora to get that expierence.

18.2 is 1080i, IIRC (18.1 is 480i, so this is an oddball setup).

Isn't 18 in Jackson? Or is this some LPTV thing?

You're thinking of WHTV, RF34 maps to 18-1. This is WDWO-CD RF18, (18-x) in Detroit.

Which is a low powered station, with what, a coverage radius of 10 miles?
37 miles. http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1536487&map=Y

It theoretically reaches 4.5 million people in the US.

I am buying a Panasonic Vierra tv next weeks from Paulson's. I have Uverse that I will be connecting it to but I also want to connecting to an OTA to watch local sub channels here in Detroit. I don't want to spend a lo ot money or mount anything on the roof. Is there a way to still get a decent signal without a lot of pixelization? This is my first hdtv and venture into digital OTA televsion. Thanks in advance for the helpful information and suggestions.

Well, for starters, where are you located? I'm in Westland, and I use a pair of rabbit ears for VHF in conjunction with a Silver Sensor UHF antenna pointed in the general direction of Southfield, and I'm able to get all of the main stations in the area. My antennas are on the second floor of my condo and don't rotate, so anything on UHF not in line with the direction they're pointing isn't received. For example, iON TV on virtual 31 never came in well for me until it moved to RF channel 50 in Southfield-Farmington.
