John, I see you are using a DB4 antenna. I'm in Dearborn too (near Telegraph/Carlysle). I have the DirecTV H20 receiver and have a DB2 antenna (mounted outside) connected to it. I get in everything really well, but have had a few issues with Fox 2 (Ch. 2.1) on occasion. The DB4 might be too much antenna. I think its basically a double stacked DB2.

I went here and sent them a pretty detailed complaint, although I also mentioned that I appreciate the fact that they are offering the Pistons games in HD.

Thanks for the tip, I wrote them a polite complaint as well.

The cable industry has a divided opinion on passing HD locals in the clear, or not, which leads most knowledgeable observers to believe FCC rules and guidelines are less than clear on the subject. While many cableco's do not pass local HD in the clear, Comcast does. There have also been reports of other Comcast HD channels in the clear, but this is the exception and not the rule.

Yes, the TV20 logo is really bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all FCC rules and guidelines public information?

I believe you are correct, but believe me when I tell you many others at AVS have previously tried to find definitive information from the FCC on this issue, and failed.

What I can tell you for sure, is that the legal departments of these companies simply have different interpretations of the issue. Comcast believes they are required to pass local HD in the clear, other cableco's don't.

I still can't figure out which regions of the country get the Fox HD college football games. The USC-Oregon St. game is not being telecast on D* channel 95 where the games usually are. It's not like that channel is being used right now.

Makes no sense to me.

Is there a guide listing which of the Pistons games will be in HD this year?

It's basically every home game, plus (obviously) all games on national TV.

The Pistons are on now, and the huge TV 20 logo is gone on the HD channel! It looks like our feedback made a difference.

Anyone know if Comcast is going to be broadcasting the Red Wings games in HD. FSN (and the Comcast guide) says they are broadcasting in HD but I'm not able to find an FSN Detroit HD channel. I checked INHD and that channel is just displaying the INHD logo on a white screen despite what the guide says. Possibly a blacked out HD broadcast of the Wings game?

Yes, many Red Wing broadcasts on FSN will be in HD. I posted a list of the games a few pages back in this thread.

However, Comcast does not carry FSN Detroit in HD. Only DirecTV and Brighthouse carry FSN HD in the Detroit area.

My thought exactly, this is great. I'm grateful that they acted on our feedback, and took the appropriate action to keep their viewers (us) happy.

I wrote them a "thank you" message through the feedback form, just so that they know that someone has noticed and appreciates what they've done.

Does anyone have any news on Comcast adding FSN HD? The last I saw, someone said an installer said that they were "close".

They are always "close". If the installer said "No chance for this season" people that really care might bail and go for the dish.

Ask a CSR if they think we are going to get Bin Laden you will probally get the same answer.

Has anyone experienced problems using a PVR recording NBC-WDIV (channel 4.1) over the air? I've had problems since mid-September, but it could have been there before, that's just when I've started heavily using my PVR (due to a new baby).

I use a LG-3410A recorder, and when I either record or "timeshift" I the video gets blocky, freezes, or occasionlly the whole unit freezes. I can watch the station real-time no probelm, and the signal strength is just fine. I also record all other channels with no problem, just on channel 4.1 has issues.

Others in the LG-3410 forum have had similar problems with specific stations in other cities. Most speculation suggests PSIP data or bitrates. I have no idea what that means, but does anyone know what WDIV does different, and can they fix/change it?

I'm assuming you are referring to the SARA version of the Mot Explorer HD?

If my external SATA trial fails, I will be a very unhappy complainer to them. 1.87 has disabled FireWire and that is illegal.

I have been calling and emailing comcast for a while now, telling them that I would like to see FSN HD added for our area, along with a few other HD channels. I have a feeling if enough people call and do the same thing, we might actually see some additions.

Does anyone know if detroit will also be getting Natl Geo HD and A&E HD when they are launched on some comcast systems in early December? I saw in some other thread that they were going to be added Dec 5th(i think) to the Baltimore system.

I love how Comcast notes in the cable box guide info box of Pistons games that air on FSN Detroit (channel 39) that the game is in HD. Where? On Direct TV, certainely not on Comcast. I know it's coming soon.

Also why is it that every Saturday the cable guide says that the NBC nightly news is on from 6:30 to 7 on channel four. But when I go to watch it is the wonderful WDIV local news.

And how is it they are able to air a one hour local news cast on the weekends. Are there that many shootings, fires, robberies, and car accidents to cover on a Saturday?

I didn't notice that because I was watching the Wings game on Fox 2 HD. If the game is produced in HD, why can't Fox 2 broadcast it in HD? It is quite interesting that they indicated the Pistons' game in HD. I wonder if that is a typo or if it's preparing for the addition of FSN HD?

It's all money related. We charge Fox more money if it goes out of the production truck HD. Doesn't matter that we do nothing different except to downconvert it. Plus it costs more for the HD transmission circuit, and they need to purchase a decoder and have some way to downconvert the HD broadcast for the SD viewers or book a 2nd transmission path for SD. Add all this up and it costs a lot more to broadcast the game in HD. The Pistons are in HD over the air as they are able to recoup these costs in charging higher commercial rates and getting HD sponsorship. As soon as they figure out how to do this with over the air hockey and over the air baseball the games will be in HD.

FSD does a higher volume of shows so they are able to recoup this extra cost. Every broadcaster wants to broadcast everything in HD. Cost is always the reason they do not.

Have you watched all the the way to 7:00?

I watch OTA, but my experience is that if sports overruns 6:00 PM (when local news should start), that WDIV local and NBC Nightly roughly split the remaining time until 7:00 PM. Thus WDIV may start late and run a few minutes past 6:30, and NBC Nightly is short by the same amount.

Does anyone else have trouble picking up 20.1 OTA? Antenna web says I should get it (I'm in St. Clair Shores):
* yellow - uhf WMYD-DT 20.1 MNT DETROIT MI 274° 13.9 21
... but I can't get it no matter what I do. Boosted directional antenna, boosted and unboosted quad bowtie, rabbit ears... nothing.

Anyone have some advice? Thanks.
