Anyone watch CSI Miami tonight? I saw the DD 5.1 light come on, later I looked at my receiver and the light was out and it appeared to be DD 2.0. Was I dreaming? I didn't record it, and backed up my TiVo to about 10:22 PM, still no 5.1 Anyone know what happened?

Watching ABC World News tonight with many dropouts coming in spurts all throughout the broadcast ... including commercials.

Yes, it would seem that we're no better off than when all the "extensive planning and testing" began. Hopefully, they don't think they're done yet....

Any reason why "House" on Fox is not being broadcast in HD widescreen (two nights in a row)?. Get the Fox2 logo in lower right hand corner and bars.

I'm curious too because I thought that the Fox version of distributing HD was supposed to eliminate the need to "flip the switch". Apparantly Fox2 has figured out a way around this as they seem to only do HD when they feel like it. Luckily I can get the NY feed on Directv.

On another note, I too have noticed no change in the drop outs on ABC. There doesn't seem to have been any progress made. Hopefully it's just because of the holidays and they can really get into it once things settle down.

I disagree that it is unchanged. This issue has gotten far worse. At least before today, there could be some ten to fifteen minute stretches without video and audio dropouts. Tonight, I'm not sure I had any intervals longer than two minutes without one, and lots of occasions with drawn-out interruptions.

I have called Dimitri Kraniak of Channel 7 engineering three times the last two days and have not received a call back. Maybe if others try, we can get an answer. His direct number is (248) 827-9439.

I checked out House on WSYM -DT from Lansing and it was SD also so it's not limited to TV 2.
The Rebel Billionaire was also in SD last night on Fox in Detroit. Hardly worth watching in SD.

House switched to HD about 45 minutes into the show.

Go figure?......to much Xmas punch

Got a Samsung SIR T451 tuner (OTA and cable QAM) for Christmas. Plugged it in to my BrightHouse basic extended cable in Livonia and got the following:

81-1 FOX HD
81-2 NBC HD
82-1 PBS HD
82-2 CBS HD
82-3 PBS SD
83-1 ABC HD (unreliable)
101-2 TNT HD

The office was not so useful. The girl accused me of stealing cable since I was using an HD tuner bought from circuit city. After she referred me to her manager, I still couldn't get a channel listing. They only know that channel 240+ on their box is HD, and couldn't understand how CATV 81-83 actually transport the HDs.

So it's hard to deal with them, but the picture is awesome. Hopefully they don't remap the channels in the near future because it was miserable trying to find them manually.

Good discovery Joey. Just so you know, the ABC problems are not limited to brighthouse or your new box. As reported by many in this thread there are some significant audio drops (and video breaks for some) for many of us and the local ABC engineers are working on a fix.

Matt, I checked with a friend and found out that they have been told that the show is supposed to be in 5.1 but (and there is always a but) only on the new episodes. Last mondays episode was a repeat and the network does not let them know ahead of time about them.

Or weakened signal.

Over the past 7 or 8 days I've lost my OTA HD signal for 2-1 (FOX), 7-1 (ABC), 50-1 (UPN ), 56-1 (PBS) and 62-1 (CBS) in the Detroit Metro area. I live in the Northville/Novi area.

4-1 (NBC) is fine. ABC's problems are well documented, but it returned a couple of days ago and I presume the PBS problems are attributed to their tower problem since I've lost 56-2 as well. I use a Zenith HD-SAT520.

Any clues or suggestions ???

I've experienced no issues other than the WXYZ problem (which was pretty much non-existent tonight!) and the occasional FOX2 non-HD issues. I'm not aware of any "tower problem" with WTVS, but I did notice that they recently added program data to 56-2.

If you were receiving all these stations reliably for a significant amount of time prior to this period, I would try clearing and re-scanning for local channels. If that doesn't bring them back, I would check your antenna and cables for integrity and wet or loose connections.

Indeed! I watched all of the first LOST tonight (except for the commercials, of course. Hurrah for Tivo) and didn't notice a single video or audio drop! Let's hope it's a sign of things to come.

For those with HD TIVO box - outside of the documented Channel 7 problems, how does your OTA signal capture compare to the HD STB's?

I currently use the Hughes E86 for D* with a CM 4221 in my attic for OTA (NW of Ann Arbor between Dexter and Pinckney). I am considering purchasing the HD TIVO. I have always been rock solid with 7-1, usually good with Fox, and hit or miss with PBS, CBS and NBC. Basically wondering if the HD TIVO unit will help or hinder my OTA reception. I have not noticed any 7-1 problems with the E86.

Anyone in the area had any luck with waivers with D* for locals?

If it helps I'd place the HD TiVo in the upper middle range between my trusty old RCA DTC-100 and the surprisingly good Sylvania I picked up at Sears last summer. Being well north of you I get WWJ and WTVS, my most problematic stations about 80% of the time, vs 0% for the RCA and 95% for the Sylvania. I have no problems with the other Detroit stations and Lansing comes in great, so I'd say you shouldn't have any worries.

Just noticed that WDIV 4.2 audio is carrying the Fox News Channel this evening. The river cam video seems different too.
Sorry, my receiver was hooked up wrong. No Fox News audio broadcasting on WDIV 4.2
post #354 of 11763
I heard Canada was finally going to allow Fox News Channel but I presumed it would be sound and picture.
I certainly hope the channel 7.1 problem is fixed by now. I haven't watched much ABC programming lately but I will be watching that station a lot with all the upcomming College Football Bowl games. I watched Channel 7.1 for a little while today to see if there was any video stuttering through my HD Tivo and everything was OK. When the problem was occuring, it was happening almost instantly.

Iguana Grande,

I heard from a PBS engineer on local CBC radio a few weeks before Christmas that there was a lighting strike on one of thier towers and it should be back up "sometime" in Janurary. This was for there analog station however.

water1,

FoxNews is fully allowed on cable/sat providers here. Many have been broadcasting for a few weeks now.

ABC 7.1 looks to be out again. I was watching some of the Rose Bowl Parade today, but as of right now I don't see an OTA signal.

Now that D* has ABC HD I wonder if our local ABC will grant a waiver :-).
For the first ten minutes or so, it was SD, then the switched to HD and still is with Comcast.

Very unlikely.

I'm getting HDTV from WXYZ-DT perfect, from about 12:30 on. The game is only DD 2.0, so no audio from center, rear, LFE; only main L/R. Use PCM or analog audio for Pro Logic, CS, etc., processing.
I'm getting WXYZ OTA without any problems. I have an HD Tivo and haven't even had any audio droupouts in the first half hour of the Iowa-LSU game. Maybe the audio problems that have been a problem with WXYZ and the HD Tivo's and some other receivers is finally fixed, time will tell.
