I all ready have Comcast, but I would really like to see what other HD channels (toledo?) I would be able to pick up with this huge antenna that is all ready on top of my house.

Thanks for your help.

If you have a directional VHF/UHF antenna on the roof, you should be able to get the 5 Toledo HD stations from the downriver/Dearborn area. Look into a rotor, so you could get both Detroit and Toledo.

The old thing actually has a rotor on it that works believe it or not! Just need some help hooking it all up, and Dr. Don hooked me up with someone. Hopefully they'll call me back.

I'm also excited to see how much (if any) better the picture is in all it's uncompressed glory vs. the picture I get from Comcast of the network stations.

We love our OTA. Wife was skeptical at first, but is now a believer. No TV outages in 2 years. Visitors can't believe that the pic is from antenna. Seriously.

They will. Do you have a rotor controller? If not, look into the IR remote controlled version.

Comcast typically passes local HD without additional compression.

Comcast subs in the Detroit area who have undergone the analog reduction / HD increase, will see 3 new HD channels in the very near future:

truTV HD
Headline News (HLN) HD
Turner Classic Movies (TMC) HD

I am really getting jealous of you folks with all these new HD channels. My area is on the 2010 list according to your earlier post, can't come soon enough.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I think that makes a total of 104, including premiums.....

Kinda mad that Comcast does not have the BTN overflow channels in HD. Would really like to see the MSU game in HD but only the UM game is in HD. Also it like like Comcast has dropped 2 of the overflow channels so even if you wanted to see the Illinois at Minnesota game you could not as channel 694 and 695 have the same thing as 692 and 693.

Yes, it's too bad since at least some competitors carry all the available BTN games in HD.

My frustration with the situation is at least tempered with the MSU win, the fact that UM lost is just icing on the cake.

Like the idea of TMC, all we need now is BBC of America in HD and we will be extremely happy with Comcasts offering's.

Eagerly awaiting the new HD now that the analog shutoff has started.

Viewing FSN Detroit HD ch 201 on Comcast. In spite of 16:9, does not look like HD in any way.

Was just coming on to post this. Definitely looks like widescreen standard def. The Pistons game from Toronto on Wednesday was 4:3 only, maybe there's some contractual/legal reason FSN can't broadcast HD from there?

The FS Red Wings bug looks sharper than the rest of the broadcast! Can't check NHL Network feeds, though; they seem to be blacked out.

The FS Red Wings bug looks great though!

The video quality is bad even for SD. You can barely read anything in the score bug.

Yes, to add insult to injury, the NHL Network HD usual Saturday night carriage of CBC's Hockey Night In Canada is blacked out......

.....and the Wings are down 2-0 after one.

At least Mr. Keating looks good in HD from the new Southfield studio.

This must be all about the $$$.

Can't wait for that one! I sure hope that they show things in OAR, not stretched or cropped, like IFC HD, and AMC HD usually do.

Ken,

Looking at the channel lineups for the areas that have gone through the analog cuts they list 4 or 5 channels as being "Reserved for HD". 2 of those channels are in between the local channels so it seems that they may be for future local HD stations. Do you have the channel numbers for these new channels? If the channel numbers are the three "Reserved for HD" still left (185, 246, and 247), then I wonder if that means an end to the addition of HD channels for the time being.

I hear it's a mixed bag so far, but it should be expected to take considerable time to convert their vault to HD.

As you noted, here are the 5 'Reserved for future HD' channels.
185 TCM HD
238
239
246 HLN HD
247 truTV HD

I'd agree that 238 & 239 are for future local HD, hopefully one of them for CBC HD, when it eventually goes live.

And so, there are no more 'Reserved' channels unaccounted. But, there are lots of numbers not being used, so I don't believe this means we're not going to see more HD from Comcast in the near future. YMMV.

239 is Belleville is WGTE HD, so it appears to be used for the secondary PBS.

I agree that there are alot of open channel number but with NFL SD at 180 and WTVS SD2 at 287 there is no more channel in the HD range. I wonder if when they add more HD channels if they will place them elsewhere or move some of the SD channels.

Personally I don't care for the HD lineup at seems as if there is no rhyme or reason where channels are placed, I would like to see the sports channels all together, kids channels all together, general entertainment all together, and so forth. It seems like they tried to shoe horn all the new channels without a major movement of the SD channels.

Understandably. TCM has a lot of films. In the mean time, if they will just not present distorted SD on their HD channel. I can buy an Oppo DVD player that will upconvert a letterboxed 4x3 SD picture to 16x9. Surely there are professional processors that do that. So, why can't IFC HD do that, instead of stretching a film to fill the width, distorting it in the process? Maybe TCM will upscale properly. So far the only HD channel I haven't spotted altered SD material on is MGM HD.

The "T" in TCM stands for Turner, so I wouldn't count on it.

I noticed FOX 2 has a new splicer logo that is now transparent. Much better then the old full color logo.

Between the new legal IDs thru the splicer and now this new logo, two nice updates by FOX 2, nice job.
