Looks like I was right about channel 199. It now says HDPPV and if you scroll down to later tonight, its the Tyson Fight.

Oops, looks like I let the cat out of the bag.

That either means there's a really low signal level hitting the box, or the return signal path is blocked by a device that's not bi-directional.

Or you got a third shot box.

im going to try that but it worked perfectly fine on the NORMAL digital box, and the first HD box i installed it all connected to comcast perfectly... its only prob was the picture would go out alot when watching HD or on demand stuff.. i just dont know how it "could work" before.. but doesnt... now argggh,, now i gotta wait until thursday for the tech to come out..

Is everyone getting the annoying constant "ticking" sound on 7.2 and 7.3? Not that I watch the weather radar or the view of Southfield that often, but I do like to check once in awhile.

Thanks,
Matt

Does the radar even work? I turned it on during last Sundays storms and it did not seem to have much on it even though it was raining pretty hard here.

Whatever it is, it causes my STB to continue ticking for a couple seconds after I tune elsewhere. But the radar does appear to be working and not stuck like last week.

I was getting that annoying ticking sound on 7-2 and 7-3 as well. I noticed yesterday, though, that it was corrected and now the audio for 7-1 comes through on both of those subchannels. They also seem to have replaced the radar display with a much nicer one, showing the freeways and listing some of the major cities.

This is really a local question though as different areas do different things as far as what you can get and how.

xplode, a location in your profile would be a big help. Check the local reception forum for more accurate answers about your specific area.

Best I can tell here Comcast only has CBS, NBC, PBS, TNT-HD, and Discovery-HD in the clear. It takes a long time to look through all the detected digital channels to see if anything is on them. I wish my TV would just omit the channels that are encryped during it's channel scan.

I live in Brighton also and had the same problem with interference on the OTA WXYZ 7-1 feed for Tuesday's Pistons game. It appears to be a weak signal. I assume its a problem on their transmitter, and not from the ABC feed from the game. I just turned it on to Oprah and am having the same problem. It was rock solid a couple of weeks ago.

Has anyone heard anything from the station?

Chuck
Chuck..

Probably atmospheric. None of the stations are staying locked with my indoor antenna and we're having issues at my station, too. Lot of reports from people who can't hear us very well, this week. True, we're on the backup antenna while we do the HD Radio upgrade, but it usually doesn't make THAT much difference. Our monitors are fuzzing and we're < 4 miles from the transmitter.

There's a 41 in Battle creek and this system that we've had in here this week is probably doing some ducting.
I'll give 41 a try tonight. And, keep trying 7 as the conditions change.

Chuck
Chuck..

Did you mean WXYZ-7 ANALOG? I'm sorry, I thought you meant WXYZ-DT (which transmits on UHF 41, remap to 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3). It's WXYZ-DT that could be getting interference from Battle Creek's channel 41. Sorry.

Would you mind sharing which channels Comcast broadcasts those HD channels? I have a media center, and it does not have a search option. BTW, I am in Roseville, MI

No, I meant WXYZ Digital HD. I tried to get the Battle Creek station last night, but found I had the same problem with signal strength. I was able to tweak my rotor setting and received a stable signal for WXYZ. So far, I'm happy.

Thanks for the responses.

TNT-HD is 115-10
DiscoveryHD is 103-1
PBS is on 2-1 (HD) and 3-1 (SD)
FOX is 81-1 (new find tonight)
CBS is 86-5

? - 77-5 (480i)
? - 77-12 (480i)
? - 77-20 (480i)
? - 77-22 (480i)
TV Guide - 77-95 (480i)
? - 77-98 (480i)

It looks like the On Demand content is on 87, 88, and 102 (12 subchannels each). They're not encrpyted, but most are a black screen, and the ones that show content are showing things not in the TV listings.

93-5 to 93-51 - Music Choice

Indemand Previews - 100-1

? - 109-26 (480i)
? - 115-9 (480i)
Realcomp - 115-13 (480i real estate)

I couldn't find NBC tonight in my scan.

I'm in Sterling Heights.

You should. The atmospheric conditions that caused your problem are gone. But they'll be back. Anytime we have a nice front moving through that comes with severe weather threats, you can bet on tropo ducting giving you fits, at least until analog shutoff, when there shouldn't be so many stations sharing frequencies so close. You may also see interference issues in the winter, although that's more prevalent downriver as Erie and the ice from its evaporation create one big honkin' direct line to Cleveland.

Calling all Detroit HDTV owners -

I'm trying to organize a ISF calibration tour by Eliab from Avical, if you want more information go to www.avical.com.
I don't want to hijack this thread so anyone that is interested please PM me. No date has been set but it would probably be sometime between September and November.

I got this from my contact at Comcast.

we have started the channel migration, but the process has been slowed down as of yesterday. We have currently moved about 15 channels over to the digital format and are working on the rest, but we may not be finished until mid July. Sorry for the delay, as we had new equipment failure that needed to be sent back to the manufacturer.
Thanks for your patience,

At least there is some positive movement and we will get those dual tuner dvrs buy football season.
Any idea what channels have been moved over?
Any word on what happened Saturday that knocked out most of the basic channels on the Comcast Royal Oak system all afternoon? Was it related to the ADS migration?

I thought my cable boxed died did not know it was a wide spread outage.
Checked with DSLReports and it was being reported as a "state-wide" outage. Not sure how that could be unless all of Comcast's franchises are in SE Michigan. I knew it was a big problem when I dialed their customer service number and got the "all circuits are busy" message.

I noticed a lot of channels came and went yesterday too.

What's ADS migration?
Comcast is starting to Simulcast basic channels digitally as well. This is for many reasons.

1.) Preparation to when all channels must be digitally broadcast in 2007 or 2008 (although Comcast says it expects analog cable to stick around until 2010 or so).

2.) The Motorola PVRs seem to have a terrible time with analog signals.

3.) We are a dual cable system in South Oakland county...therefore we are incompatible with the 6412 DVR and Cable Cards.

4.) To be more competitive with satellite (all channels broadcast digitally).

Great, soon all the channels will look bad then...

I'll take analog cable over digital cable anyday. Digital cable looks like crap with a big mess of mpeg artifacts and what not. Of course, on their box's tuner the analog looks bad too. Good thing my TV's tuner does a great job with analog.

Hmm. Which means you'll have to rent additional boxes if you want cable in more than one room. And your VCR will be useless without a cable box. Just thinkin' out loud..

Or, you could get devices with QAM capable tuners.

Still... I don't think it's going to be anything to write home about judging from the quality of the other 100+ digital cable channels.

Comcast's digital channels look as good or better than DirecTV or Dish Network. This is from first hand comparison.

Better get used to the idea of all digital; too much bandwidth at stake.

Does anyone know when the Taylor Comcast will be ADS?
I was under the impression that only the 6412 was going to get the i-guide.

I went to watch some tv this morning and it has been loaded on my 6208.

Anyone else?
