Detroit, MI - HDTV - Page 305

Seems that many channels have been intermittently flaking out since the addition of the 3 new (useless) HD channels. At the moment, Fox Sports Detroit HD is totally unavailable and MGMHD is barely tuning in.

Looks like the majority of the basic channels that showed up on clear QAM here in the semi system have been encrypted.

I highly doubt that the addition of the 3 new HD channels has anything to do with the problem you are reporting on the other channels.

It's pattern recognition on my part. In the past, many times (but not every time) when they added new HD channels, the problems I'm seeing now happened then too . . . at a time when there wasn't much reception issues to speak of anytime beforehand. FSDHD, SCIFIHD, FOODHD, etc etc etc. I predicted it would happen before the channels were added, and it's happening. It seems to be a correlation to me but of course I wouldn't be able to say for certain why it's happening, I only know it's annoying.

Received an "Important Information about Comcast Service" notice with my bill. For what appears to be all the systems in Wayne/Oakland/Macomb, there are price changes effective June 1. Most are increases. HD service charges have been restructured, additional HD fees are gone.

HD Converter $8.95 (High Definition equipment fee covering all outlets; price includes an HD converter and remote for the primary outlet.)
DVR $7.95 (from $15.95)
Digital Outlet $7.95 (Previously digital starter & digital economy were $1.99)
Limited Basic Converter $0.99 (from $4 - no free DTAs for limited basic)

I'll be getting comcast in clawson, which is considered royal oak. What brand and model number of hd-dvr do they have now? I would like to research the specs before hand. I wanna know what I'm getting.

Comcast in Michigan uses Motorola equipment with the following models of DVR.

DCX-3400
DCH-3416
DCT-3416

Are they really cutting the DVR price in half or should that read $17.95?

No Comcast is being sneaky and making the customer think DVR is only 7.00. However, $7.00 is only for the DVR service. You still need to rent the actually DVR box which is $8.95. So its still $7.00 + $8.95 = $15.95. Comcast didn't lower the price at all. Its completely ridiculous that Comcast prices it this way. You can't have one with out the other, so why not just price it as one and not confuse the customer.

If they're like Brighthouse, they will when you order a second one.

It depends. If they only charge one DVR fee per account, it makes perfect sense. If it's per DVR, then it's shady.

From my price change notice it sounds like the following:

1st DVR: 8.95 HD fee + 7.00 DVR fee = 15.95
2nd DVR: 7.95 Digital box fee + 7.00 DVR fee= 14.95

That's close to how I read it, but notice the $8.95 HD fee includes an "HD converter". So if you only have DVRs, the first one may be $4 less. I suspect Comcast is considering people upset because they must pay per outlet when previously QAM (or analog) got them all the channels and as a way to counter U-verse DVR sharing among all the $7 U-verse TV boxes.

Is there a way to swap my dch-3146's for a DCX-3400's?

Same here on the Semi system. I never have quite understood why they carry WFUM and WKAR on clear QAM but don't provide them on STBs.

They do, but not in all areas.

You can try calling or stopping by a local office, but it's a crap shoot.

I didn't see this posted before, My DVR manager/service is up and running in Royal Oak. I have 4 dvr's and was able to remotely schedule and cancel recordings.

I saw that, what I meant was no one had mentioned that the MyDVRmanager was up and running (it was not during the initial a28 update).

WOW has added Versus HD (at least for the duration of the Hockey playoffs) The Channel being used is 212 of the HD Tier. They did this without any announcement to my knowledge.

I get that ... just curious as to why that is. I know that WKAR is definitely considered out of market here in Macomb County, so that's probably the reason that station is excluded. But not so much with WFUM which is carried on WOW all across metro Detroit and on Comcast on their Oakland County systems, for example.

Obviously its not a bandwidth concern -- just wondering if there's a deal between WTVS and Comcast or something that keeps them from adding WFUM to set top boxes in Macomb County since its already on the wire.

Same here on the Semi system! Yesterday when I tried, I got the usual message that MyDVR service was not yet available. But just minutes ago, I was able to go to comcast.com/newguide, activate it and have just successfully setup a recording via fancast.

Thanks for letting us know that it is up and running - no notice from CC.

Works nicely - not sure if I will use it though

Anybody know what's up? Channel 50, WKBD, appears to be MIA as of 7 p.m. Sunday evening. It was there earlier today.

They could hardly have picked a worse time to die.

At 7:24 pm, it was up and running OTA for me.

Looks ok here via Brighthouse. Both analog (*5) and digital (50-1) look fine. OTA works, too.
