Outdoor Remotes RF-IR

Hi All,

I'd like to be able to control some of the IR-driven HT equipment in my home while I'm out in my backyard. Specifically, I'd like to be able to adjust the volume level of the amp driving my outdoor speakers, along with turning on/off X-10 lights and such, while sitting in my pool or on my patio.

Question: Does there exist an attachment that I can place over an IR learning remote (like the pronto) that will transmit the IR signals as RF to an internal RF receiver, which will then convert them back to IR? I would want to connect emitters to the RF-IR unit to control my various HT equipment. An alternate solution would be an IR learning remote that transmits RF directly to a similar RF-IR base station.

I would need some decent range (like 100' or so), as our backyard is very deep.

Stupid question: Am I correct in assuming that I need an RF solution like the above? I would expect that IR doesn't transmit well in daylight or outdoor environments.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Mike

Take a look here. I use these on jobs all the time. The 150 feet is a little optimistic. More like 100, regardless it cant hurt to try this as the least expensive route.
