In-wall Speaker Prep?

Getting Closer..>Framing of our new house starts this week...So my low-voltage work should begin in the next two weeks....

I'm going to to be wiring for a Nutone IM5000 intercom system as well as pre-wiring for a multi-zone audio system...

My question pertains to in-wall ( and ceiling) speaker installation...

Budget constraints have us doing all the wiring at construction time...but it may be a year or two before we actually prioritize the multi-zone equipment and speakers...

But...How much difference is there installing in-wall brackets PRIOR to drywall vs. retrofitting them at a later date?

Will I obtain much better sound putting the brackets in now? If so I guess I'll be blowing my budget ...and having to cut back on landscaping http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

I haven't decided on speakers yet...but am considering Paradigm, B&W, Atlantic Technologies, and other higher-end speaker lines...

Thanx in advance

All of the flush mount speakers I've ever encountered (lots) install just as easily for retrofit as for new construction. As far as sound quality is concerned, there really is no noticeable difference. If you're going to hide the wires behind the drywall just make sure you use a method where you can find them again later.

Jeff- nice to hear that your house is moving along. I hope to hear more on your progress and decisions. There are many others on the forum right now that need to read these posts. Your home is a great example.
Are you going to use in-wall speakers for most of your house or in-ceiling speakers?
Use a digital camera or a disposable camera to take pictures after your rough-in. Mark the pictures with the dimensuions from two walls. Tired of drilling holes yet?
