We have Comcast basic cable and want to keep cable for a little while, at least.

I can get a Toshiba SD-H400 for 199.00-100.00(with few months plus service) rebate. Maybe use basic but would really want plus. $99.00 + 12.95 a month

Replaytv 5504-refurbished---29.99 +12.95 month

Comcast DVR (I would have to upgrade to digital cable) approx 14.00 + 9.95 month for service.

I really need something easy to use (for DH
;) and my best value

Give me all your opinions.

TIA:D :D

Mommy,

For basic cable, the Tivo is a much better choice than the cable DVR.

If you plan to pay for the full Tivo service, you may want to consider a standalone Tivo instead of the SD-H400. Amazon sells the 40 hour model for $79 after rebate. The standalone Tivos have several advantages: 30 second commercial skip, the ability to upgrade the hard drive, and the better Tivo "peanut" remote. The SD-H400 is the only Series2 Tivo without the 30-sec commercial skip feature, and no one has yet figured out how to get the SD-H400 to recognize more than 80Gb of space.

If you do see yourself using the free "Tivo Basic" service at some point, then the SD-H400 would be the way to go. The SD-H400 is the only non-DVD recorder with the free "Tivo Basic" service, which features a 3-day program guide and VCR-like timers.
