After my first night with the Sharp 45 inch, few random impressions:
1. I had to rip the outside box to get to the inside box. Too heavy to lift the inside box out from the top, did not want to tip the screen to open the bottom to slide out...
2. I have one stuck pixel (stuck green) in the far right corner. Not noticeble even at two to three feet because the pixels are so SMALL! I find this acceptable given the effective six million subpixels in the panel. 0.0000167 % failure rate is pretty darn low.
3. I was very impressed by the quality of the SD picture fed through SD TIVO with s-vhs cable. Watched the baseball game last night through it (could not pick up OTA) and with the sidebar and contrast reduced, very nice picture with very minimal pixelation.
3b. Absolutely NO problems with refresh rate or blurring of fast action. No pixelation problem with fast movement. Could track that baseball (even in SD) without noise or trails....
4. DVD play quality was superb and definitely high WOW factor. After my inital disappointment (see previous post) because I had the player set up wrong, I screened both AOC and ESB. Black levels is ESB was excellent in my living room which was dimly lit while I watched the movies. Aladin certainly demonstrated rich vivid colors. I was amazed by the complete lack of SDE even at just 2-3 feet (I know nobody watches at that distance, but I did for few minutes).
Question: I was tempted to "RUB" the stuck green pixel to see if I could correct that. I remember reading somewhere else that sometimes a stuck pixel can be resolved with gentle, soft massage. Any thoughts? (http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread/t-13419.html
I am overall very pleased with all aspect of the TV. It is clean loking, slim (certainly compared to my Sony 27 inch trinitron), and has beautiful picture. I picked up a HD box with DVR from Comcast Philadelphia (they claimed not to have cable cards) today and plan to watch the game seven tonight. GO YANKEES!!
Thanks again to everyone in this forum who were so informative and giving in their knowledge and help.
P.S. so tired, went to bed at 3 AM and had to goto work at 7AM...
