Heard that CBS was about 3 months away. FOX is a different story.

Adding KBAK-CBS to BHN should be nothing more than the two coming to an agreement for the re-transmission. Fox on the other hand is a little more complex. BHN Fox agreement is with KBFX not KMPH. KBFX is a Low Power station and as "Inundated" stated on his 11/15/04 post that the FCC is just now getting around to addressing the ability for LP stations to offer digital or HD transmission.
For those of you receiving Fox OTA I have had better luck with my Terk-5 antenna than the Silver Sensor.
So is it official that KMPH is broadcasting in HD?
Yes, definitely. I've been picking it up with the Silver Sensor as have others. (erratic signal)

I regularly check titantv.com to see what's in hd for the evening. They keep saying that UPN 55 shows are in hd. When you tune to that station, you might get a boxed 16:9 picture, but it certainly doesn't seem hd to me.
I emailed titantv about this. I noticed that UPN is one of their "featured" stations. go figure....
The quide information on DirecTV for the station is incorrect also. They must be using the default UPN digital information and not taking into account that this station is digital but not HD.

A couple of decent web sites to check for upcoming HD broadcasts are:

http://www.hdtvgalaxy.com
http://www.hdtvmagazine.com

They have their flaws but are nice for a quick check on programming.

Has anyone heard any more news of Bright House adding CBS to their HD lineup?
When I corresponded with Nancy(?) at BHN, she indicated that CBS wanted $ to let them carry. Since NBC and ABC are free, BHN doesn't want to give them any. Maybe it's the NFL that causes CBS to think they deserve more. It certainly is a big disappointment to Bakersfied HDTV customers.

In a related matter, FOX out of the north has been coming in much better for me OTA. Last two weeks of 24 have been trouble free.

Living in Lake Isabella.....we have no HD options.
It looks as if it will be staying that way for a long
while.
Hi,
Does anyone get their local hd channels through DirecTV? Are you happy with the results? Does anyone have a waiver for FOXHD?

I've been subscribing to VOOM which is going belly up. Their local reception was spotty.

I have Bright House but only get two of the majors in hd. As my son is between houses and living with us for the next 6-10 months, we were considering the Sunday Ticket package with D*.

Thanks

mgh
Living in Lake Isabella you might qualify for all the HD station with D*. I would call and ask first before buying.
Although I spoke to only one CSR at D*, he told me
that the only local stations I could get was out of
Bakersfield. I asked about waivers for HD, he had
no idea.

As far as E*, I am grandfathered with the distant
networks, with a limited choice.....CBS only. Not
sure why E* can't get the other HD network feeds.

I lose 29 all the time. They have the weakest signal quality wise and it can be frustrating when you think you have recorded a show and it is not there. I have not checked today, but I had a signal last night and did not have a signal Thursday night.

Hi My name is Bruce S. and I own B.I.S. Technologies here in Bakersfield. A custom install company( CA Licensed Cont, A+ Certi, and a CEDIA member-just joined). We specalize in Home theater and Structured Cabling in Home/Commer enviroment. Been in business for about year and half. Just don't do alot of advertising. Had a booth at 05' Bakersfield Home and Garden Show and hope to do it again next year.

Perhaps I can help answer some questions and if you have any more feel free to E-Mail me at BISTechnologies@bak.rr.com

CBS & BH or COX - The local CBS station is privately owned and therefore does not fall within the scope of the national CBS netwark. Thanks to some very knowledgeable Bright House employees. I have learned that the owner want's a ridiculous amount for the HD rebroadcast rights for CBS. As for Fox they have herd rumors about possible rebroadcast of KMPH but nothing definite. As far as COX, they are as behind as they come. I do not know what their deal is but on the coast where they exist also there have been keeping a good pace with new technology. It seems that in Bakersfield they just don't care very much. (EX: Their cable modem service was years behind bright house's(time warner at the time))

One way I have personally solved the Missing HD channel problems(BH - TNT,DiscoverHD, ABC, NBC, INHD but no FOX or CBS; or OTA ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX [w/good antenna] but no TNTHD, DiscoverHD etc....) is I do subscribe to Bright House Basic Cable but I use a LG LTS-3100A Tuner. This HD tuner tunes OTA channels but also tunes HD over cable. There are other manufactures that do this I just prefer the LG because they have the best OTA tuners. I compared this tuner to the ones that come with the EPSON Livingstations that I sell and the LG received stronger signals (OTA) than that of the EPSON tuner.

Hope this helps abit.
I am glad to help anyone in the Kern Co area. E-mail me or call me at (661) 706-0781

Is anyone receiving a decent signal for Fox-KMPH ota? I understand it has been bad up North also. I hope they get it together before the NFL broadcasts.

Excellent signal, about a 95 on my Sony. I have a 15 element directional UHF antenna and preamp pointed in their direction. I installed it for last years Super Bowl. I know that they had been having an encoder related problem for their HD signal causing frequent drop outs. Hopefully they have the problem solved.

Due to my intro promotion ending, I am now looking to switch from Brighthouse to Directv. I need HD, and would like DVR functionality as well. I really dont want to pay $500 for their HD-DVR, but if that is what you guys would recommend, I may have to just do it. What options do I have as far as stand alone HD recievers and DVRs are concerned?

Thanks,
Mike

Do you pick up the local stations on that antenna?
I just installed a Channel Master 3018 and their preamp hoping to get more HD signals, but the preamp seems to have been to powerful; I got the 4 local digital stations and 18 analogs without it, but 1 digital and 4 analogs with it. I have not yet tried pointing the antenna toward Fresno. Would I completely lose my locals if I did this? I don't want to buy a rotator if I don't have to.

Mike you don't have much of a choice as far as HD recievrs with DTV. You ether have HD or HD w/DVR. DTV no longer lets third party boxes in (unless that has changed reciently). I do know that DTV is in the process of overhauling their entire stream. You may rember that they launched 2 new birds. Their encoding will be higher (MPEG4 I think). After everything is over they might let in third party boxes but untill then who knows. DTV no longer deals w/custom installers, so I am not a big fan of them. In fact there is big lawsuit against them because they did not pay on a lot of installs.
They are switching to their own DVR for HD in the near future. I would be careful about shelling out big bucks for an HDDVR (by tivo) that D* might not support long term. I have to ask if you really think you'll be getting more HD through D*?
If you get the Sunday Ticket HD that's nice, but expensive.

Thanks guys,
I realize I may be giving up a little as far as HD channels go, but I am hoping to pick up the slack with an OTA antenna.

I am also hoping that once I sign up, I will be able to get in on the $199 HD DVR deal that is going on right now. That makes this change much more appealing.

So D* does all the installs themselves, unlike Dish? I was planning on having them install the OTA antenna, should I just use whatever they recommend/supply, or should I buy one ahead of time for them to install?

Mike
On their website D* does not list Bakersfield as an area that they provide OTA.

Let me know what you find out.

Also, $199 HD DVR? Where? My son wants to do Sunday Ticket and I might bite if the right HD package could be factored in.

Thanks

I didn't realize your area had be on their list for you to receive an OTA antenna. Is that how it works, or will they still install it if you request it?

Here is a link to the $199 HD DVR:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=569538

If he wants Sunday Ticket, he may be able to get a free upgrade to their Superfan package. Several people in that thread were able to do that.
