KRGV-DT is the 4th and final local HD to sign on with Dish Network.
Crazy thought, couldn't KNVO/XHRIO use PSIP to remap XHRIO's digital signal and display as 2.1 instead of 48.3? Equally they could change KSFE from 48.4 to 21.1 (to match their on air branding as opposed to their actual LP channel number). Sure it may seem trivial, but I just thought if you are gonna make another broadcast station a subchannel and you are already using PSIP, might as well go all the way and make the channels appear as if they are their own channel entirely. Think about it, stations like XHRIO and KSFE are only subchannels because they don't have their own digital signal or are low powered stations. The subchannel IS their digital feed. I say do it.
According to the always reliable wikipedia (ha) it's been done before. KENS in San Antonio was broadcasting as one of KWEX's subchannels after their original RF channel 55 was taken off the UHF band. No one really noticed because although it was now a subchannel of another station on RF channel 39, it was still mapped to its PSIP virtual channel of 5.1 instead of appearing as KWEX 41.2. After the transition KWEX returned to its analog channel of 41 and KENS remained on 39 and once again became the sole station on the frequency instead of a subchannel. Because this info was gathered on wikipedia, who but the KENS and KWEX engineers know for sure if that's really true?
That is why I ask if it really can be done and if it can, suggest it be done.
Any thoughts or opinions?
