Any updated information on the status of channel 4? I have the Memphis locals on directv, but I also like to watch local news and programming on channel 4.

Is that the same tower site that Sunny 93 is on? I have never gotten WCBI here in Grenada, even in the analog days, but Sunny 93 is a much better catch.

For you guys in Tupelo, do you point your antenna towards Columbus or Houston . . . or somewhere in between?

I live in Saltillo and had mine pointed almost due South. I got everything pretty well, but now I've lost 9.1 altogether and have a hard time getting 45.1.

My best bet has been to point toward Houston.

Oh! I know!

Glendive, Montana!

No?

Alpena, Michigan!

Hmm.

North Platte, Nebraska?

I'm kidding of course.

I wonder why there's no love for the golden triangle from D*? Even Biloxi is about to get a little love from D* from what I hear.

Just got WCBI back OTA. Strength is around 85%. It is usually around 97%. Maybe that will work itself out.
What is going on with E*? HD locals are not on, SD are, and a ton of searching for signal...is it just me?

WCBI seems to be a little stronger here in Pontotoc.

Hey folks, I live on Columbus AFB, and I need some help with choosing the correct HD Antenna (outdoor vs indoor).

Just got a new Samsung HDTV (had an old tube tv for the last 7 years...finally caved and upgraded), and we are not interested in getting cable or satellite. For the most part we view television shows via the internet, and I am anxiously awaiting the new Apple TV. Hopefully it lives up to all the hype about what it will be capable of doing.

I bought an indoor RCA Digital Flat Antenna from Sears. I am able to pick up WCBI, and thats it (no matter where I place the antenna in the living room). Should I get an outdoor antenna? If so, which kind? I am extremely new this, and would appreciate any help or guidance.

Thanks so much!
If you want to get all of the local channels in this area, you'll definitely need an outside antenna. From your location, WCBI is the closest of the five stations and more easily received by an indoor antenna. WTVA, WLOV, and WKDH are in the same general direction, but are farther away. WMAB is even farther away near Ackerman and therefore is not in the same direction as the other four. So, to get all of them, you may need to consider a rotator depending upon what type of antenna you get. To complicate matters even further, WTVA and WMAB broadcast on "high VHF" channels, RF 8 and RF 10 respectively. These channels will absolutely be extremely difficult to recieve with an indoor antenna. (I'm in Starkville, much closer than you are to the towers, and can't get them with any indoor antenna I've tried.) These 2 channels are also more prone to interference during thunderstorms too.

So, there's your problems, what's a solution? Check out the web site "antennaweb.org". Plug in your address and see what it recommends for where you are. But I believe your best bet is an outdoor antenna.

Has anyone's WTVA signal gotten weaker in the past few weeks? Mine is around 50%. WLOV and WKDH stay around 90%.

I hate digital on VHF.

I'll check it when I get a chance, but it's been a good picture for me in Grenada lately.

It's frustrating how much the digital on VHF high breaks up. During severe storms with lightning it can be impossible to get a full sentence of audio decoded without a breakup.

But I'll say that I've had good luck with WTVA otherwise. It's one of the easier stations to pick up with my cheapo attic antenna. Even WABG from Greenwood, which normally hits 100%, goes out easily if the antenna isn't "just so".

Looks like it is a wiring issue on my main TV. The WTVA signal is good on my bedroom TV.

My apologies for letting this task slip away. I did check and WTVA was outperforming WABG for a change at my location. (80% for WTVA versus a paltry 50% for WABG, who usually hits 85-90% on the AM-21 tuner).

I read in the paper where Comcast is hoping to go digital in Tupelo in December. Has anyone heard any different?
I was told December 11 by a tech (this was back near the first week of October I think).

I wonder if they will add WMC and WHBQ in HD or drop the Memphis stations altogether.
Sure would be nice if they did. Are any of you guys using a CableCard on Comcast here in Tupelo? If so, were you able to self-install it or did they have to roll a truck? Thanks,

refresh my memory...E* has the locals in HD, but D* is not on board yet? That makes no sense since Dish gets there signal from Direct on WTVA's roof. A m I right? We just signed up for Direct TV just to get Sunday NFL Ticket. Looks like I need to hook up and antenna...?
Anyone know any local Home Theater installers that do good work?

Yep. Antenna is a good option. WTVA, WLOV, and WKDH's picture quality is good. Is there any hope WCBI could move their CBS-HD feed up to 1080i and increase the bandwidth for the picture? I know that would involve dropping subchannels. A fulltime CW in HD channel would be nice. That way the SEC Network game would not interfere with the 2:30 CBS SEC Game of the Week.

yes it would involve dropping subchannels, and we make good money on them. So that is not going to happen unless the bandwidth gods bless us with more playing field.
I am not be any means the final word on that, that is just my opinion...
I saw where some new channels or sub-channels will begin 1/1/11. One of the channels is ME-TV and the other one is Antenna-tv, both channels will show classic tv shows similar to what tvland shows or use to show. Hopefully we can get some of these added on some sub-channels.
It's now on DT 49.1.
WEPH is not a classic tv channel, its a religious channel ctn same channel can be seen on directv channel 376.

Are they broadcasting any subchannels? The CTN affiliate down here in Mobile just added CTN International as their .2 channel. It's been a technical headache for them, though, either going black or freezing a lot. I clicked by it earlier today and it was frozen on one image while the audio continued on.

Been with D* since 2005. So sick of no HD locals and talked to D* last night. Asked 4 different reps if they plan to rollout HD locals in Columbus/Tupelo: 2 said no plans in near future and 2 said they were rolling out HD in our area in 2011???

I have choice ultimate + NFL Superfan. It sucks to have HD NFL games all reg season, only to have the playoffs and SB in SD! I've tried no less than 10 indoor/outdoor antennas to no avail: I can barely get WLOV and sometimes WCBI. I live off of the Trace in Saltillo.

Anyone know of a good OTA antenna installer? I don't care how big it is. I may just switch to E* and be done with it. Off course, that means no Superfan and a 2 year contract for freebies.

The D* lying may be the straw, however.
