My problem still lingers:
- I would love HD locals. D* has no plans to roll these out in the near future.
- I live in an OTA-unfriendly area and were I to install an OTA, it would be an issue splitting the signal to 3-4 TVs anyway.
- I've tried indoor and outdoor OTAs to no avail.
Comcast says the $15.50 package for Tupelo doesn't include HD locals. Is Metrocast a viable option to received HD locals in Tupelo for cheap?
I can go the media center route for all other content if need be, so we don't really need anything but locals in HD. There HAS to be a solution!
I've been with E* for over four years now and have never had a problem with customer service that one or two spins of "CSR Roulette" hasn't taken care of. Unless you are trying to buy your receivers, I can't imagine what you were trying to be charged $400 installation for. (With E* there's no real advantage to buying vs. leasing.) Right now E*;s offering their top AT250 package for $49.99 for 12 months and at regular price of $69.99 for the remaining 12 months of the contract. This includes the HD locals. You sign up for auto pay and you get HD free for life. Without any premiums, this is what you should minimally expect to pay for full basic cable:
AT250 $49.99 ($69.99 second year)
DVR Fee $ 6.00
1st DVR Rec. $ 0.00 (second HD rec. $7 non DVR, $17 DVR, each)
Sales Tax 7.25% $ 4.06
Dish also offers free installation and has lower priced packages than this. For example here's my bill calculation. I like movies, have an extra receiver, have the protection plan and have additional HD channels (Platinum).
Mar 28 - Apr 27 HD Solo Receiver 7.00
America's Top 200 59.99
HBO & Sho 24.00
Dish Platinum 10.00
Encore - Free 12 MO 0.00
DVR Service 6.00
Service Plan (15) 6.00
HD 200 Free 0.00
Mar 13 State/Local Tax (Sales) 7.91
Total AutoPay on Apr 02, 2011 $ 120.90
So it can vary significantly based on your preference. E* has also promised no price increases until 2/13. I'd check out either a local dealer as I did here or try again. Don't base your decision on one lousy CSR. Oh, by the way, Metrocast at least here in Starkville, is VERY expensive and is a non-starter with me.
